The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 11)
Alia woke up, startled and sweating.
She thought she was dreaming. She thought she had seen two beady, red eyes staring into the window by the door. Sighing with relief, she laid back down.
Moments later, when Alia had almost drifted off, Alia heard the door handle being opened.
She heard the door creak open slowly. Frightened, she got way down under her bed covers, thinking about what to do. She would never forget that "nightmare" before Malistaire's arrival. She knew that she would live, but maybe not for long.
The Draconian army wasn't too far behind.
Bravely and quietly, she sat up, and grabbed the candle on her nightstand. Alia slowly put her glasses on, and the blurry images suddenly became crystal clear. Her kitten was sitting up stiffly and alarmed, with her ears turned back. For some reason, the strangers didn't notice this creature. Alia, meanwhile, stared at their every step, and every movement. Suddenly, Alia realized that the strange shadows were going towards the couch where Sean was sleeping, perhaps thinking this was Alia.
Alia had no clue how, but the word escaped her mouth without warning.
"STOP!"
The two burglars were surprised. Alarmed, they turned towards the girl behind them, who had her hand over her mouth. Alia hit her forehead with anger. "I am so dumb," she said. The two thieves replied, "Indeed you are." Their faces were revealed at last, showing two very frightening faces. The one that looked absolutely evil talked. " We came at just the right time, didn't we?" The other one (who wasn't as scary as the first) spoke too. "Right when your powers are gone. Our master has informed us." Alia just stood there with her head held high, bravely. "Well, I know you're here to steal something. What is it this time?" She asked suspiciously. Minerva was meanwhile trembling under Alia's bed.
"Nothing." the least threatening one answered. "Just your SOUL!" Both men cackled loudly.
Sean, meanwhile, had awoken. He screamed as girly as he did when Malistaire arrived, announcing Alia's power loss. "Sean!" Alia yelled.
"PROTECT YOURSELF!"
He jumped up quickly, then dodged the zap that the evil thief had aimed at him.
Alia's parents had now awoken, screaming. "Get out!" Alia's father said, casting a Kraken at them.
Alia couldn't believe this. "Dad! You can't do that anymore! Malistaire will-" "I don't care! I just need all of us safe!" he replied. "You're father is right," Alia's mother said, casting a Hydra. Sean was just dodging every zap that came towards him. Then, the less threatening thief cast a Scarecrow. Alia's mother and father had finally been defeated.
Alia got very angry. "I'm warning you! I HAVE A CANDLE!" The two thieves laughed. "Like you're going to kill us with THAT," the evil looking one said. Alia looked at her tiny candle in her hand, then threw it at them.
It all happened in a split second. While the candle was flying through the air, the two thieves zapped the candle at the same time. It exploded with a shower of sparks, then they hit the floor everywhere. The sparks turned to fire. The whole dorm room suddenly became a death chamber of flames.
Alia didn't know what to do. All she could do was scream. Loud.
So loud, the young Necromancer next door woke up. He was none other than Cody Dragonrider. He rubbed his tired eyes, and laid back down, but heard it again. He suspiciously looked out his window, seeing the dorm next to him on fire. "Alia!" he thought.
Cody quickly opened up his window. He ran to Alia's flaming dorm. He looked into the window, seeing Alia, who saw him at the exact same moment, and then he fled. "Cody!" Alia yelled.
Cody was knocking rapidly on Sabrina's dorm. "Hurry up..." Cody said impatiently through his gritted teeth. "You get it Sabrina," he heard from inside the dorm. "Fine," a tired voice replied, obviously Sabrina's "What?" Sabrina said grumpily as she opened the door. "ALIA'S DORM IS ON FIRE!" Cody yelled. This of course resulted in Sabrina becoming instantly wide awake. "Alia's dorm is ON FIRE?" "Yes!" Cody replied. "I got you because water can put out fires!" Sabrina shook her head angrily. "No. No no no no no. I am not using Storm magic. My powers need to be kept, not taken!" Sabrina said. "It's the only way to save Alia," Cody said. "If I were you," Sabrina started. "I would get a Thaumaturge." It finally hit Cody. He grabbed Sabrina's wrist and ran off. "Come on!" he said.
When they got to Mary;s dorm, it was like the same thing with Sabrina all over again. "You know, she's going to say no," Sabrina said. "Maybe not. Who knows?" Cody replied. After many, many knocks, Mary's head stuck out the window. "WHAT DO YOU WANT?" she screamed in her shrill, girly voice. "Alia's house is on fire," Sabrina said with her arms crossed. "And by the way, brush your teeth once in a while. There's some weird stuff in your teeth." Mary rolled her eyes. "I ate some of King Gobblestone's jellybeans when you and Alia left, okay?" "ENOUGH! The person who is supposed to save us is about to DIE," Cody yelled. "You being Ice-" "Whoa--Wait. Did you just say me being ICE? I don't need to lose my powers here!" Mary said. "Same here," Sabrina said, glaring at Cody.
"Would you rather help Alia without anybody finding out, ("But what if Malistaire is there?" Sabrina asked.) and maybe someday get her powers back, or would you not help her, let her DIE, and let there be no chance of our freedom?" Cody said. "Whatever the first choice was, I'd rather do that," Sabrina said. "Me too," Mary said.
"Good," Cody said. "Let's go."
The three wizards walked towards the dorm, prepared for whatever was in there. Cody had on his best Death gear, Sabrina was in her old Krokotopian gear, and Mary was in her favorite Marleyboninan gear. Cody ran up to the door and slammed it open. "HELP! I'm trapped!" Alia yelled. She was certainly trapped within the glowing flames.
"Mary, put out the fire. Sabrina, you attack the thieves. I'm going to protect Alia. Got it?" Cody said. Mary and Sabrina saluted at the same time. "Yes sir!" they said. Mary got freezing instantly, and Sabrina cast a grand Kraken.
Cody meanwhile had to protect Alia. He cast a Death shield that landed in his hand, yelled, "Catch, Alia!" and threw it. Alia quickly jumped up and caught it, defending herself. Cody repeated this process, with Death and Fire shields. That is, until he used up all of his Death Shield cards and Fire Shield Treasure Cards. At least Mary had put out the Fire.
Cody, Mary, and Sabrina then had to fight the two men. So far, the only injuries were a slight burn on Mary's left arm, Alia's father had gained consciousness but was still badly injured, and Alia's mother had gained consciousness but had then fainted from shock. Cody used Myth spells from his secondary school, Mary tried to freeze their staffs, and Sabrina was just casting in all directions. "OW!" Alia's father yelled, looking angrily at Sabrina and clutching his arm. "Sorry Mr. StormWalker!" she yelled back, casting a Storm Shark.
The thieves created more fire. "This is HARD!" Sabrina said, wiping the sweat off of her forehead "I know. We'll defeat them!" Cody said.
All of a sudden, they heard a scream, and saw Mary flying across the dorm, hitting the wall. "She looks unconscious," Alia said. "NO! One down?" Sabrina said, now casting a Storm Bat spell. "Yeah. We've got to finish these guys off--And fast!" Cody said. He cast a Humungofrog.
After many more rounds, (of course there was even more fire) Alia's mother finally woke up. "Is the fire gone?" she asked softly. "You may not want to look, mom," Sean said. But Alia's mother opened her eyes anyway. She screamed, and fainted again.
"Uh-oh!" Sabrina said, looking down at her cards. "They've all turned grey, and I have 4 pips! I've run out of mana!" Cody looked down at his cards in fear as well. "All I have is 5 mana left. The only thing I can cast is my Minotaur Treasure card!" He etched it, then closed his eyes waiting for the moment where he heard that snort. But he didn't. He peeked, and saw the ashes on the ground. "Fizzle," he mouthed.
"Nothing can stop us now!" the two men said, getting ready to kill Alia. "What do we do now?" Alia asked Cody. "You and Sabrina are out of Mana, Mary is defeated, my dad is injured, my mom fainted, and Sean is too SCARED to do anything!" Everyone looked over at Sean, who was trembling behind the couch. "What's weird is that the only other school available is Fire," Cody said. "Maybe a Pyromancer will bring us luck!" "WE DON'T KNOW ANY PYROMANCERS!" Sabrina yelled.
"Yes you do, you just didn't know it."
Someone behind them had spoken these words. It was a female, exotic voice. The three young wizards turned around slowly.
There, standing on Alia's bed, was a strange girl. She was strange, because, of course, they didn't know any Pyromancers. She was wearing red and yellow Krokotopian clothing, red hair that perfectly matched her clothes, and the flames below illuminated her dramatically.
"Who are--"
"THAT DOES NOT MATTER AT THIS MOMENT! I just need to get these two criminals out of here," she said.
She had no wand, but she diligently etched a bright orange fire symbol. As soon as she cast the strange spell, the two thieves were finally captured in a large dome of flames. Finally, a silence fell over the crowded household.
That is, until Sabrina blurted out, "Whatever your name is, could you please finish these two off before they find out some way to escape? Like TELEPORTING?"
"Oh. Don't reveal how they can escape!" the not so calm anymore voice replied.
Two balls of Fire formed in her hands. She threw the two at the same time, towards the dome. It was pure success. The balls of fire singed them so badly, they finally fell to the ground in defeat.
"No offense," Alia said, turning to the heroic girl. "But who are you?"
The girl smiled. "Elizabeth. Elizabeth... Elizabeth..." She frowned. "It's been so long, I can't even remember my last name!" she sat on Alia's bed in disappointment. "Anyway, you know me as MINERVA."
"Minerva?" Alia asked.
"Minerva?" Sabrina asked.
"Minerva?" Alia's mother said, finally conscious.
"Minerva," Elizabeth said, smiling.
There was a very long silence. Until, Alia noticed something.
She slowly walked up to Elizabeth, and said, "Is it just me, or are you like my red haired Pyromancer twin?"
It was true! Alia and Elizabeth had the same sea green eyes and light pink lips, same skin tone, and same long hairstyle.
"Back on the subject," Elizabeth said, as if she didn't care. "I just can't believe I can remember my story, but not remember my last name!" Elizabeth paced back and forth worriedly. "It had something to do with Balance... Or fire... Or Krokotopia..."
"WAIT!" Cody finally yelled.
"Your story?"
"Yes, how I was cursed to be a cat for a long time."
"TELL US!"
"Fine, but I can't remember my last name, still!"
Elizabeth pulled up a chair, and prepared to tell her story. She cleared her throat, and started.
"I'm from Krokotopia. I was born in Krokotopia. And I was a strange child, because I was Fire when my parents were Balance. I attended The Krok School of Magical Arts in Krokotopia--"
"I always wanted to go there!" Alia's mom blurted out. "SHH!" everyone said, with their fingers up to their lips.
"I was one of the twenty Pyromancers there, I was part Myth, and I was rather powerful. Nobody dared to challenge me to a duel. My parents owned the Krokotopian Jewelry shop, so we always slept on the top of the building, watching the glimmering stars as we fell asleep. I also had a best friend; Tinu Bhak'mal--"
"Isn't he that Mander guy in the--" Sabrina started. "SHH!" everyone repeated, their fingers up to their lips.
"So, one day, I was going to meet him in the Pyramid of the Sun to play tag. I walked up to the brazier in the Altar of Kings, when I was snatched by an evil looking Krok. I immediately demanded for him to tell me who he was, and he replied he was Biti Nirini."
Alia was thinking, "I always hated Biti from the start..."
"I asked angrily where Tinu was. He said he was now a Mander slave, in the Krokosphinx. I knew that Tinu never liked Ice, because he was a Fire mander. I instantly freed myself, and ran off to the Krokosphinx, Biti diligently trying to catch me. Finally, I got on the boat, and manually turned the paddles to go faster. The Krokosphinx wasn't far ahead, and I had to run past the Krok School on the way. After what seemed like hours, I saw Tinu shackled in the Emperor's Retreat. I freed him, and he said, "Stay here, I will take care of him!" "No! You're shivering cold, and I actually know magic!" I replied. "BE CAREFUL!" he yelled. I confronted Biti outside of the Sphinx. I cast a flare at him, but he resisted it and said, "If that's how you want it, FINE!" He quickly traced the death symbol, and a black light came flying towards me. All of a sudden, I was shorter. I looked at my hands, and gasped, which was actually a meow, because I had little paws. As Biti cackled, I hissed, and jumped up on his face and scratched it up. I ran off to then meet Tinu in the Spiral Chamber as his only friend, and that was just the beginning of utter chaos. I could still cast spells though, that explains the time I first saw those two thieves and the Humungofrog appeared."
There was a long, long silence.
Alia crept over to her nightstand, and got her locket making kit. She created a silver, flower shaped locket with a single ruby in the center. "Welcome to the club," Alia said, handing the locket over to Elizabeth. "What club?" Elizabeth asked in confusion.
"That chaos that you described, and the chaos you just stopped was the work of Malistaire. All of these people who helped, and Sean, have to help me save the Spiral. We have every school but Fire and--" Alia started.
"MYTH."
"Myth?" Sabrina asked, then her eyes grew wide. "Oh, I know EXACTLY what you're thinking! You're going to add KEVIN!"
"Yep," Alia said, smiling. "Look, we don't know any Conjurers but him, and you're not the one who makes the decisions here!"
"UGH! Fine!" Sabrina said, taking a seat.
"And I need to train up to sigil duplication, and Rebirth someday..."
She glanced at the clock. "Looks like nobody got any sleep, and you guys need to get home," she said.
They all sighed, and left. But Alia grabbed Cody on the way out.
"Thanks."
"For what?"
"For saving me, again."
"Okay, you're welcome?" Cody said nervously, running out the door.
"And don't you worry about me," Elizabeth said. Alia turned around to find her as a cat again, sleeping on Alia's bed.
"Finally I can get some sleep..." Sean said, yawning. But the second he closed his eyes--
DDDDDDDDDDDDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG!
"AUGH!" he said, turning his alarm off. "You're so lucky you don't have school Alia!"
"No I'm not," Alia thought. "Tonight, I have to do something completely dangerous:
"Steal my powers back."
For this plan, Alia had to get a good night's sleep... Malistaire's defeat and the Draconian Army weren't far behind...

The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 10)
Alia couldn't believe it was finally the end. Flying off of the pole, Alia screamed (again). She fell for such a long time. All of Wizard City was almost out of sight.
Like a miracle, Alia felt her hand finally grasping a cliff. Tired and sweaty, Alia had a very difficult time getting up there. It probably took a minute's attempt.
Now losing her grip, Alia thought, "Why bother? I'm going to DIE anyway!"
All of a sudden, Alia felt something lifting her up from underneath. Sighing with relief, Alia hopped up onto the cliff, barely getting a glimpse of the thing that had done this. Alia could have sworn she saw wings. A dragon, perhaps? Alia lost that thought when turning around to find a cave.
"Hello? I need help, I flew off of Wizard City," Alia said, feeling like she sounded absolutely dumb. Going deeper into the dirt cave, Alia got more tired than ever, and was about to collapse. A glow was near, Alia could tell. Slowly tiptoe-ing towards the strange light, Alia realized it was dimming by the second.
Once Alia finally collapsed (yet she was still conscious for some reason), she finally realized she was right where the mysterious glow was. Staring up at the roof of the cave, Alia didn't notice the glow coming back until it was too late. A ghost's face was over her, with alarming blue eyes. Alia yelped instead this time, because her throat was indeed beginning to hurt. "It's Emily! And hush, he could be watching!" the ghost said. "Emily?" Alia asked. "Emily SWIFT? The ghost of the Secret School? How did-" "I'll explain later! He's coming. Here," Emily said, sprinkling some kind of dust over Alia.
"WHO IS IN HERE?" Malistaire yelled, now in the cave. "Why, master, are you just hearing things?" Emily said calmly. Alia realized Malistaire wasn't staring at her, and she also realized she couldn't see any part of her body. She then acknowledged her invisibility. "I am hearing things," Malistaire said, smiling. "I AM HEARING TALKING!" Emily sighed. "Take a break, why don't you?" Emily said. "You work and work, and it's making you stressed. Rest in your office for the week, okay?" "And let my students cast former spells all willy-nilly? I think not!" was Malistaire's rude reply. "I'll be asleep for the next 9 hours. Enjoy death," he said, teleporting back.
With another dusty sprinkle of invisibility dust, Alia was now her opaque self again. "Why are you in here?" Alia asked. "The Secret School is now off limits to everything and everyone. That includes ghosts. But come here, he doesn't know," Emily said, floating over to the far end of the cave.
Though it just looked like the end of a cave, Alia knew it definitely wasn't when Emily knocked 3 times on it, snapped, and zapped it. Then, the seemingly ended walk through this cave didn't end. The back of the cave glowed brightly. Alia shielded her eyes as it turned to ashes.
They walked and floated along for what seemed like hours. Then Alia noticed they had stopped in front of a wall. "This isn't it," Emily said. "But it's like a tour stop." The whole wall was covered with many pictures. Alia confusedly asked, "What is this?" Emily told the story that had been painted on that wall thousands of years ago.
"A Theurgist was born one day. Her first Imp had hit her brother with 150 damage, a serious impossibility. Her mother Sorcerer and father Diviner knew something was unusual about their pleasant daughter," Emily said, moving from picture to picture. "As time went by, the girl became curious. To find a strange pole was very odd. She slid down. This Theurgist had discovered a Secret School, like many others."
Emily continued to the next row, saying, "The first row was your unusual past. Now to the present." Emily dramatically wiped away all of the first row pictures. "Learning more spells along the way, the girl knows she is ready for The Death, what these people had apparently called HIM. The Death arrives one day, perched upon a storm cloud. He defeats the Theurgist's loyal professor and headmaster. Knowing the Secret Spells live on, The Death traps her and almost kills her."
Emily wiped away the middle row magically. "Would you like to know your future?" Emily asked, smiling at Alia. Alia couldn't believe she'd find out if she would live on. "YES! Please. By the way, are these seriously true?" Alia asked excitedly. Emily smiled once more, and only said, "If you believe they are." Emily studied the ancient drawings carefully. "The perished headmaster rises, yet is under The Death's control. Trying to kill her once and for all, The Death sends off thieves to steal her magical source. After failing, a Draconian army is sent to her house." "That's it?" Alia asked.
"Look," Emily said, showing her a smudged series of pictures. "These are blurred. I can't tell you any more." Alia sighed disappointingly. She then followed Emily to the surprise up ahead.
"Hello, Merle," Emily said, staring down at something hairy, covered in torn cloth, and extremely muddy. "Hello Emily," it replied. It had a rather hoarse voice. Alia realized, this wasn't an IT, this was a HIM! Alia's eyes filled up with tears when she saw her headmaster for the first time in forever.
"Alia. I haven't seen you in a while. Would you like some dirt?" he crazily said, scooping up a handful of dirt and showing it to Alia. "No thanks," Alia replied disgustedly. "I really can't believe you're actually ALIVE! But...Look. How come you can't just teleport back to the Commons and confront Mali-um, HIM?" Alia's now crazy headmaster chuckled for a while, then said, "I don't have my powers anymore."
"WHAT? Oh my gosh! How did it happen? Did HE do this? Come on, we've got to get help for you!"
"I gave away my powers."
"Oh, well that's sort of good. But we've got to get the person you gave them TO!"
"She's in this room."
"Great. You give all of your powers to a GHOST! No offense, Emily. But why A GHOST?"
"I'm looking at her."
"Can you narrow this down a little more? ENOUGH CLUES ALREADY!"
Alia breathed heavily.
"Alia LotusPetal."
There was a long silence, and Alia finally said, "Define POWERS."
"Everything," he replied, still hoarsely. "Teleporting home or to the commons is now quicker, me giving you that ability. Your Death spells should be 40% more powerful. And... What else?" he said, pausing. "Ah, yes. I gave you all of my Secret School powers."
Alia now understood why Big Bang was in her deck. "But why? Why give away your powers to me?" Alia asked. "For your protection. If I didn't, Malistaire would have my powers under his control, and you couldn't possibly save us," he replied. "Well, we'd better get you back to the Commons!" Alia said.
Emily helped the filthy Headmaster up, wished Alia good luck, and Alia teleported. Or, at least she tried.
Alia tried again.
And again.
And again.
And-
BAM!
Somebody had teleported with a loud BAM, and dust quickly filled the cave. Alia heard loud cackling. "You REALLY think I'd never find out?" Alia heard. Malistaire had just teleported into the cave.
"Alia, why, you know what this means, right?" he said, smiling. "No! This can't be happening! You're taking away my powers!" Alia exclaimed, while extremely worried. "Yes indeed! And Ambrose," Malistaire said, turning to him. "The prophecy states you are now under MY control!" He cackled loudly again. "And Emily, nothing happens to you. You're already DEAD, nothing else can happen."
Malistaire turned to Alia once more. "Say goodbye to your powers, delinquent," he said, smiling. Alia felt like her soul was being sucked out of her body. This was way stronger than a Wraith. Alia felt a lot like she was dying for about one minute.
Then, it was gone.
Alia stared in horror as the green sphere of power was magically placed into a miniature golden lockbox. "NO!" Alia screamed. She had tears running down her cheeks.
"Now to finish this old man's punishment," he said, now turning to the horrified headmaster. He zapped him rather hard. Professor Ambrose stood straight up, and said, "Yes Master." Alia cried even more.
Malistaire quickly grabbed Alia and Professor Ambrose, and teleported to the commons. But before they did, Alia saw Emily mouthing, "I'm sorry."
Alia was being taken by Malistaire to her dorm room. He slammed open the door. Sean screamed like a girl, which nearly made Alia laugh. "ZOMBIE!" he yelled, and hid behind the couch. "Don't push your luck, DeathHammer," Malistaire said. Alia's parents walked up to the door.
"Headmaster Drake!" Alia's father said. "Are you here to tell us why Alia came home late?" "No. I am here to inform you of a little incident," Malistaire replied. Alia's mother gave her a look that clearly said, "You're grounded."
"Of private reasons, your daughter's powers have been taken away."
Alia's parents gasped. "But," Alia's mother started. "We can only understand if we know the reason!" "DO YOU WANT TO HAVE YOURS TAKEN AWAY?" Malistaire yelled. Alia's frightened mother shook with fear, then got herself together. "No, Headmaster," she replied.
Malistaire pushed Alia in. "As of now, your daughter is EXPELLED!" He slammed the door shut, and all eyes were on Alia. "Alia, I know this seems unfair, but we need to-" Alia's father said. "Forget it. I need to get to bed." Alia replied.
She pulled the covers over her head. "Good night," Alia's parents said sadly.
Alia's morning was better. Nobody was harassing her to WAKE UP ALREADY! So Alia was awake at 10 o' clock in the morning. With 5 hours on her hands before she broke the news to Sabrina, Alia was bored out of her mind. With no magic, Alia was really in a dilemma. So, Alia wandered through Wizard City. She went everywhere, then stopped at Rainbow Bridge. Alia sat on the edge of the bridge, and stared into the water. She did this for what seemed like hours, when she saw another face next to hers. "Did you drop out or something?" Alia heard from behind her.
Alia almost fell over. She turned around to see none other than Cody Dragonrider. "Oh. It's you again." Alia said "How come you say that every time we start talking?" Cody asked. "I really don't know," Alia replied. "Why are you-" "Here? It's lunch time. Today we're having Mystery Mud." Alia and Cody both said, "Gross!" at the same time. They laughed for a little while but quickly stopped. "It's actually tar. Guess I solved the mystery!" Cody said. "And why are you here?" he asked Alia.
Alia sighed. "My powers were taken away." There was a long silence.
DINNNNNNNG!
"Uh oh! Class is starting!" Cody said. "Bye Alia!"
Alia stared at him running until he was out of sight. So many thoughts were buzzing through her head.
After many more hours of walking and staring, the bell finally rung. Sabrina ran out to the Commons, seeing Alia up on the bridge. "Alia! How come you're here? How come you weren't at school, too?" Sabrina asked.
"Well, last night, remember when everyone left?" Alia asked her. "Yes. In fact I do. I CLEARLY remember!" Sabrina said angrily. "HOW? I still hate Mary! This is so-"
"MY POWERS WERE TAKEN AWAY, OKAY?" Alia said loudly. There was another long silence.
"Wow," Sabrina said. "It's a long story," Alia said. "Well, come on! We still have to tell Mary!" Sabrina groaned.
Mary was in Collosus Boulevard. She was skipping about the icy sidewalks, not scared by the ghost Gobblers. "Ice is wonderful! Why take it away?" Mary said to herself. She finally got to Gobblestone Castle. She was excited that it was empty.
Mary walked in slowly, and saw the unguarded sweets in the many crates. "This will be interesting," she said. Mary walked towards the many boxes, but didn't know of two gigantic eyes staring at her. Just about to eat a jellybean, she heard a loud booming voice.
"STOP!"
She screamed and dropped the jellybean. She rushed out the door quickly, finding Sabrina and Alia at the door. "Hi! Do NOT go in there!" she said, pointing to the castle. "We heard it," Alia said. "Probably just King Gobblestone. How could Malistaire ever get rid of THAT?"
"ANYWAY," Sabrina said. "Alia would like to tell you something." "What is it Alia?" Mary asked. "Malistaire took away my powers," Alia replied.
"NO! NO NO NO! HOW?" Mary yelled worriedly. There was no long silence after that. "Long story," Alia said. "Well, guess it's time for me to head off," she said, looking up at the sky, which was growing darker. Alia flicked her wrist with her wand in her hand, and teleported home.
Meanwhile, two pairs of eyes were staring into the now dark dorm room. The two burglars smiled. "I'll pick the lock," one said, in his wicked, dark, horrible voice. The burglars were coming to Alia's dorm. The Draconian Army wasn't far from now...

The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 9)
Life was never the same when Ravenwood was recreated.
Gone were the streams behind the Ice and Storm schools, gone were the benches by the Myth and Fire schools, and gone were all the schools themselves.
The Drake Academy of Necromancy was created.
Everyone was a Necromancer. All people who weren't originally Necromancers or didn't train second in Necromancy were instantly Novices. The worst part: former Life students were treated horribly.
In fact, one brave attempt to free yourself (if you were a former Life student) would have you rid of your wand, AND magical abilities.
It was and endless graveyard, with dead trees, skeletons and skulls strewn everywhere, and ghosts roamed without people battling them.
It wasn't just Wizard City enslaved. Manders were spending their days collecting all treasures they could, and giving them to their new master. All Marleybonian dogs were sent home, only to be ridden of their cars, homes, and food. Now living like cats, they roamed rooftops, searching for a hopeful can of discarded tuna at least. MooShu bovines, and goats, all chipped away at mines far in the distance. And Dragonspyre, that was the only place not enslaved. Malistaire's office was there. He could relax without having to see if his slaves were doing as they were told.
And nobody had a house anymore. All families lived in the tiny dorms.
And what were students to do after school and homework? Now not allowed to do street battles, all they could do was duel.
Alia was on of the most saddest people around. With reduced health and mana, and horribly non-Marleybonian clothing, Alia felt horrible.
Alia was lucky to at least have a bed. There was only room for 2 beds in the dorm though, and 1 couch. Once Alia, Sean, and her parents realized the very decreased space, Alia yelled, "I call second bed!"
Sean moaned, and the night wasn't that good. He fell off the couch twice, had a nightmare (a nightmare about a Malistaire zombie eating everyone), and almost wet his pants 5 times. Alia though, slept soundly.
On Friday of that week, Malistaire got up on his black lighting cloud. He announced, "To celebrate the birth of Drake Academy, there will be a short get-together in the Ironworks pavilion. Don't even think about those nasty Street Sweepers, they are now in proper maid dresses. Alia snickered. "Do not worry about them trying to battle you. I promised to kill them if they did." Sabrina sighed. She loved killing them, one reason was that her Diviner spells were boosted.
"The dress code:" Malistaire started, then snapping. A long piece of parchment appeared in his hands. "Males are expected to wear black, ANYTHING black. And girls, you are expected to wear, (he shuddered) GREEN."
Alia's jaw dropped.
"8 o' clock tomorrow. My new slaves," he said, smiling at the word slaves. "Shall be preforming classic Dragonspyre and Necromancy music." He etched the Death symbol in the air, and teleported to his Dragonspyre office.
Alia was scared, suspicious, and yet, TOTALLY EXCITED! She was so happy to have one more day of smiles and GREEN. "Why green?" Sabrina asked Alia. "He could have done purple!" Alia pondered for quite some time, then knew it. "Somewhere," Alia said. "Somewhere deep down in that cold, lifeless heart, Malistaire still cares for Sylvia."
But it was a trap, Malistaire was trying to kill Alia. Yet, he still cared for Sylvia very much.
Running to the dorm, Alia pulled out something light, silk-like, and green from some drawers. It was her dress she had been saving for FOREVER. Surprisingly, it still fit! Grabbing her Marleybone style shoes that had no requirement and her Elegant Hat, Alia was instantly ready to get dressed and enjoy one last night of happiness.
Walking into the crowded, noisy pavilion, Alia heard violins and a piano playing rather spooky music. Alia noticed the people playing the music instantly-former Ravenwood professors. They were all in black rags, and playing sadly. Alia bit her lip as Professor Wu saw her. Alia mouthed, "I'm working on saving us!" and walked to the table with many death related things to eat.
As Alia reached over to a black olive sandwich, someone else was reaching for it at the same time. The person's hand slapped Alia's out of the way, and grabbed the sandwich instead. Seeing the satisfied, munching person who took the sandwich, Alia grew angry. "Mary? You're supposed to be wearing green," Alia said, looking at her teal dress. "Aha. I see you noticed," Mary replied, twirling around. "Teal IS a mix of Green and blue. I am certainly wearing green. Meanwhile, I take pride in my former school of Ice!"
"Now if you will excuse me, I've got to finish my sandwich," Mary said, waving to Professor Greyrose and walking away.
Alia rolled her eyes, and grabbed another sandwich, munching away. Alia liked the sauce on the sandwich. Malistaire, meanwhile, was spying on Alia. he knew something she didn't know, so he was sabotaging her night to decrease her powers. Stress always did that.
He got the attention of one wizard, and motioned for him to step on Alia's dress, henceforth, tearing it.
Alia gasped as she saw what happened, and her angry eyes landed on the guilty wizard. "Oops. Sorry," he said, walking away. Alia sat down to look at her ruined dress. Malistaire was motioning another wizard to- "OW!" Alia said. The other wizard had stepped on her foot.
Malistaire smiled.
This was just coincidental; Mary accidentally spilled her glass of blood red punch all over Alia's not-so-beautiful dress.
Alia now saw everyone staring at her.Not knowing anything else to do, Alia ran to a spot of the pavilion where no one saw her, she sat down, and she cried. Not very hard, just enough for her to be shaking.
Professor Wu saw her, feeling sorry for her. Yet she couldn't do anything but play music. Malistaire was watching her.
Cody, meanwhile, was grabbing some things to eat, when he noticed someone in the far end of the pavilion, who seemed to be crying. He instantly knew it was Alia. Cody sighed, and walked over.
He noticed the large stain on Alia's dress. He also noticed a tear in her dress, and that her shoe was bent. "Hi?" Cody said. Alia looked at him, and said, "Oh. It's you again."
"One thing," Cody said. "Why are you crying?" Alia sniffled, and replied, "I thought this would be my last day of fun. I just want my last days to be good." "Last days? Is this what you meant when Malistaire arrived?" Cody asked.
Alia finally explained everything. "The worst part is," Alia started. "I don't have anymore belief that I can save everyone!"
"You can!" Cody said. "Do you even know what happened to the Secret School?" Alia finally perked up. "What? Do you know? What happened?!" Alia asked eagerly. "I don't know, but what if it's still there?'
Alia smiled. She finally felt a bit of hope. "And who says you won't defeat that Draconian army? Maybe you still have a chance," Cody said.
Malistaire was still spying on Alia, realizing her sudden happiness. Scowling, he whistled loudly, then teleported off, cackling.
Meanwhile, the most recent song playing was over, and now a soft, slow like (yet spooky, very spooky) song was being played. The former teachers still looked miserable, especially Professor Balestrom who didn't seem to be enjoying his huge guitar.
Many wizards were dancing with other wizards. "Um, Alia?" Cody asked. "Would you like to, possibly, da-"
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Alia screamed at the top of her lungs, and pointed to something behind Cody. "DRACONIAN!" Alia yelled. Indeed, a huge Draconian was standing right behind Cody. "You're a Magus! DO SOMETHING!" Alia yelled to Cody. "They're just Draconians, that's normal since Malistaire has ruled, right?" Cody said.
Right that moment, all of the dancing wizards turned into fierce, horrible Draconians. Even the Street Sweepers turned into Draconians.
"And that's normal, right?" Alia said, her arms crossed. Mary was just screaming, running out of the Ironworks. Sabrina just stood there, shaking with fear.
None of them had no idea that when Malistaire whistled, he summoned rather large Draconinans.
Every Draconian cornered them-all in one corner! "DO ANYTHING," Alia whispered to Cody. "I'm TRYING!" Cody yelled. "None of my spells will even be ETCHED! My deck is full, I'm wearing accuracy gear, but nothing is happening!"
All of a sudden, Alia glimpsed down at her spell deck she was clutching. Rapidly searching through it, Alia found something amazing. It was not a Death spell.
Alia had found Big Bang.
The number of copies exceeded the amount allowed in such a tiny, Novice's deck. Smiling, Alia said, "Prepare for your doom."
Scattering spells everywhere, Alia breathed heavily as she wiped out every single creature. But her eyes grew big as she saw Mary standing there, her jaw dropped. Sighing, Alia told Mary to stay there. Teleporting home, Alia knew what she had to do.
Realizing Sabrina and Cody had come along, Alia moaned and ran to her drawer. Cody asked, "Alia, what are you-"
"Destroying an enemy! It's the only thing to do now that Mary's seen a Secret spell."
"MARY? You're kidding me, you've been enemies since-"
"We were 6? Yeah. I think it's a good thing to do. Also, what if she tells Malistaire? If I give her one of these," Alia said, holding up a silver, heart shaped locket with a single Sapphire in the center. "She'll never betray us!"
"Hopefully," Sabrina muttered.
Teleporting back to the Ironworks, Alia walked up to Mary.
"Mary, this has been going on for too long." Alia said. "Let's bury the hatchet, once and for all." "Uh, that means what?" Mary asked confusedly. "I want to make you my friend!" Alia said. Mary stared at Alia, disgusted.
"I need backup to kill Malistaire, AND I want to bury the hatchet. That spell you saw can only be seen by my best friends. So, that's another reason," Alia explained.
Mary stared at the offering for what seemed like hours, deciding what to do.
She grabbed the locket firmly, unclasped it, put it around her neck, and clasped it again all in a Mary-ish way. "If it'll get me infinite fame, of course I'm taking it!" Mary said. "After all, it feels good to lose an enemy. I mean, who DOESN'T like me?" Alia and Mary giggled.
"That would be me," Sabrina muttered quietly to herself.
After Mary said goodbye to everyone and teleported home, and Sabrina yelled, "WHY?" and left, Alia finally realized the Ravenwood teachers were there.
"Uh, did Headmaster Ambrose already tell you?" Alia asked them. Professor Greyrose looked up from polishing her dark, black fiddle. "Yes, he-" she gulped. "Had."
Sighing with relief, Alia said goodbye to every professor as they teleported to the Slave's Headquarters in Dragonspyre. It was now just Alia and Cody.
"Cody, what were you going to ask me before that Draconian appeared?" Cody got very nervous. "It doesn't matter now. BYE!" Cody said, quickly teleporting home.
Alia was thinking about something besides this, and her main thought was the Secret School. But before Alia left to the Commons, she grabbed a delicious sandwich, and drank a sip of punch.
Seeing a pole, Alia smiled. Sliding down the pole wasn't very easy in a dress. A shock was ahead for Alia, though.
Alia screamed at the top of her lungs once more, as she saw the broken pole a yard away from the box, and bent to the right. "This is it! I'm going to die!" Alia said, with the most scared expression ever on her face. Was it the end for her?

The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 8)
Alia was so excited today. She was tired of the hot, dry deserts of Krokotopia. She was tired of sand getting into her boots and eyes. Today, Alia would move on to Marleybone.
Sabrina kept on getting defeated by Krokopatra. No matter how many times she hired level 20 Myth henchmen, she would soon be back in the Oasis before she could say, "No!" Alia, being a Life student, was absolutely perfect for that long, hard battle. After about 10 rounds of both healing and attacking, Krokopatra was long gone, and Sabrina had ran out of Crowns. Oops.
As soon as Alia received the key, she was eager to test it out. She twisted the giant, black key with all of her might. The door opened. Alia was almost blinded by the bright light that came from within the spiral door. As Alia stepped out, for the first time in many months, she felt a cool breeze.
In Wolfminister Abbey, Alia was enchanted by the glowing candles. Yet it made Alia realize, this place would be quite spooky. When Alia saw the graveyard, she grew uncomfortable. Thinking about what was soon to happen was too painful. Alia felt as if she were about to cry every time she thought about it.
Professor Ambrose- DYING? It was a heartbreaking thought. Worst of all, Professor Ambrose didn't believe her!
Alia gloomily went off to do quests.
"What? Excuse me, where are the sidewalks?" Alia asked Lady Desane, one of the dogs in Hyde Park. "Do all other worlds of the Spiral have sidewalks?" she said, shaking her head. "There are NO sidewalks."
Alia hated Marleybone after that.
Alia was going to teleport home after a long hour in Marleybone. She was very bruised from being sucked into many hard battles. Remembering her Secret School lesson, she teleported to Wizard City instead.
Instantly, Alia ran to the Secret School.
"Great, you're here!" Professor Ambrose said
Alia sighed, setting down her books. She knew something was not right.
"You're now back on track for spell order! So, we need to have a practice lesson. This spell is called, 'Super Armor'," he said, then showing Alia the card. "Casting this 2-pip spell will cause everyone on the caster's team to gain a blade that adds 20% damage, and everyone on the other team will gain a trap that adds 30% damage."
Alia couldn't think at all. Something was bugging her, and Alia felt something bad was about to happen. "Now," Professor Ambrose started. "in our practice lessons, you will try 3 times to cast a spell, then you're off the first time you cast it. Or, if you use up all 3 tries. Go ahead, try it!"
Alia got up. She swirled and traced... Traced and swirled... And Fizzled.
And again.
Then, at her last chance, she Fizzled once more.
Professor Ambrose then asked her, "Why? You usually have always succeeded the 2nd or 3rd time. Why?"
"Professor, something bad is about to happen!"
"What?" Alia's confused Headmaster asked.
"The worst thing imaginable..." Alia said. "I think Malistaire is coming!"
"I'll have it under control!" Professor Ambrose remarked. "Now, go off and do your quests and things."
Alia stepped onto the land, and went to the place she knew Malistaire was likely to hit; the Commons. Thousands of wizards would see him then.
As she stepped out of the tunnel to the Commons, she heard thousands of screams. A large, black cloud was in the sky, lighting bolts flashing inside of it. The sky had also turned an alarming bright red. Sabrina happened to be standing there, screaming her guts off. "We're gonna die! We're gonna die! We're gonna die! I'll chat over to Alia, she'll know what to do!"
"Alia! Teleport here quick! IT'S THE END OF-"
"I'm behind you Sabrina."
Sabrina slowly turned around. "ALIA! Oh, Alia, HELP US! You know black clouds only form when Malistaire is here!"
"That's right, puny wizard!" a booming loud voice exclaimed. Sabrina shrieked at the top of her lungs. Many people screamed, "MALISTAIRE!"
"You again!" Alia said. "Last time I saw you, my Headmaster was teaching me how to battle. Those Draconians were not very tough now, were they?" "Aww. You are so brave, puny Thuergist. So brave, I must kill you!" he screamed.
"DO(she zapped him) NOT(she zapped him again) INSULT (and again) THE (and again) MAGIC (again) OF (she zapped him once more) LIFE!" Alia yelled. She had zapped him lastly at, "LIFE," but Malistaire blocked it. "Prepare to meet your doom..." Malistaire whispered to Alia.
"Don't you dare touch her!" someone yelled in the distance. They ran up and kicked Malistaire off of his cloud. "Sean!" Alia exclaimed, running up to hug her brother. "Now is the time. The time I explain to you that we are going to kill Malistaire!"
"Weak Thuergist!" Malistaire yelled. His eyes grew the scary red color they were in the vision. They perfectly matched the sky. "WHY?" Alia yelled to him. "Why are you insulting the school that your wife taught?" Malistaire's face grew angrier. "DO NOT SPEAK OF HER!" he yelled, about to zap Alia so hard, she would die.
Professor Ambrose had just ran in to the Commons.
Alia then zapped Malistaire's staff out of his hand.
"You insult me like it's a bad thing!" Alia screamed. "You loved Sylvia just the same, even though she was Life! At least don't insult my school, if you do you're insulting Sylvia!"
"GRRRR..." Malistaire growled. He summoned up a Wraith, took its axe, and shooed it away. "Off with your head!"
Then, someone ran up and held the axe up with their wooden staff. "You're not killing Alia!" they yelled. The staff snapped in half. Alia gasped as she saw the brave person who tried to save her. "Cody! Why are you-"
"Someday I will be a hero." he said. "I think that time is now. I'll trust you on this."
Alia nodded. She yelled to the crowd, "TODAY WE DEFEAT THE GREATEST THREAT OF ALL!" The crowd cheered.
Professor Ambrose clapped. As soon as Malistaire realized his enemy's presence, he smiled. Alia, Cody, Sabrina, and Sean were about to begin the duel. Then Alia heard screams from the crowd. Realizing what was happening, Alia couldn't believe it. Her vision would come true today.
Malistaire was battling Professor Ambrose.
Alia couldn't look. Malistaire was luring the surprised Headmaster towards a cliff.
Malistaire finally lured him over to the cliff. Still gripping onto his staff, Professor Ambrose fell. Malistaire grabbed onto his staff, with Professor Ambrose dangling from it.
"Goodbye, old man," Malistaire said.
Professor Ambrose then lost his grip. Everything happened in a split second, his life flashing before his eyes.
Professor Ambrose was gone.
Alia finally looked, gasping. Sabrina was wiping away the tears from her eyes. Cody stood there, almost paralyzed. Sean was looking angrily at Malistaire.
"When I finish redecorating your Headmaster's office," Malistaire yelled. "I'll be back! As your new ruler, of course. I am your new Headmaster!" He cackled loudly, and disappeared, along with the cloud and blood red sky.
"Hey, where's Alia?" someone yelled from the crowd. It was Mary! "Yeah, where is Alia?" Sean yelled.
"Alia?"
"ALIA! WHERE ARE YOU?"
"Where is Alia?"
Cody was shouting for her, when he finally saw her, kneeling by the cliff area their Headmaster had fallen off of.
He walked to where she was. She was sobbing. "Alia?" Cody said. Alia turned around and saw him. "Oh. You," Alia said.
"It'll be okay, I'm sure that EVERYTHING isn't gone," Cody said.
"Yes it is!" Alia sobbed. "My Headmaster, my hope, even I'll be gone soon!"
"What do you mean?"
"Forget it," Alia said. She stood up, and teleported home.
That night, Alia didn't talk at all. Alia didn't sleep at all, either. All Alia wanted was for that day to be a dream. Then, she realized a thought that was bugging her:
What about the Secret School?
|
The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 7)
"Moving?" Alia said. "Where? MooShu?"
"NO. Duh!" Sean said, as he grabbed his two suitcases. "We live in a COTTAGE. We will now move to a Krokotopian Mansion, thanks to Dad and Mom's bonus at work." "Your brother's right, dear," Alia's father said. "I can't believe we got 20,000 gold from just killing 10,000 spiders!" her Mother exclaimed. "Well, 5,000 each."
They shoved the cases in the rented Grizzlehiem boat, and Alia's dad rowed away.
"Wow. Large improvement," Sean said as they stepped onto the warm, sandy terrain. There was an abundance of space, so they had a few empty rooms. But as they stepped into the house, the previous owners gasped when they saw the new inhabitants of their home. "Iceblossom!" Alia said, angrily staring at the obviously eldest child of the three children.
"Lotuspetal!" Mary said, as if hissing coldly at her enemy and enemy's brother.
Alia's parents seemed to be scowling at Mary's parents as well, and Sean held up a fist to the young Thaumaturge twins.
"We had to move out," Mary's mother said. "Because of excessive heat." "We thought Fire wizards would move in instead, possibly Balance, but look at the Storm, Death, Life, Balance family who claimed this house!" one snobbish twin said. They were probably seven or eight years old.
"Fine!" Alia's angry father said. "Hmmph!" Mary's father said. Mary grabbed her light blue cat and left with her family.
"I KNOW! I know I'm late," Alia said, running into the Secret School, her papers flying everywhere. "Indeed you are," said Professor Ambrose. Alia had no clue how time had flown bye so quickly since her 1st secret lesson. She was now on spell number 6, one behind the spell to get her on track. Sigil Duplication was now 2 spells away. Alia sighed as she sat at the desk way up front. "Now, we have mastered Mystery Beast, Drainage (dispels any type of spell), Turbo Boost (+50% damage), Chimpanzee Howl (300-390 damage to all opponents), and Universe Trap(+60% damage to any spell). Today we will learn Big Bang, a spell with 50% accuracy. It is hard to cast unless you have the Million in Million spell from that "Introduction to Secrets" quest to increase your accuracy."
Professor Ambrose showed Alia the card. All of the Secret spell cards were a black-purple. "Now, think about the spell, swirl your staff, and try it. Like a flashback, Alia swirled and swirled her Nirini Champion staff, and fizzled. Then she-
Fizzled again.
And again.
And once more.
Then finally, she thought she heard ashes fall, but instead heard a loud BANG! There, in front of her was some kind of planet. It crushed Professor Ambrose, and exploded after. "Are you okay?" Alia asked, running over to him. Professor Ambrose stood up and said, "Relax. I'm a Headmaster. I have about 10,000 health!" Alia asked, "That dents your health usually by what?" "300 for every pip. Classic, just like Judgement," he replied, smiling. Alia sighed, and asked him, "What happens if I cast a Secret spell in front of other people?" Professor Ambrose's smile fell. "Don't cast it in front of anyone. You see, Malistaire could have a spy anywhere, anytime spying on your progress. I bet Malistaire still thinks you're working on Mystery Beast, in fact!" Alia took note of that in her mind as she left the Secret School.
It was January, and still very chilly. So Alia wore a green, striped scarf around her neck. She stepped out into the Shopping District, and a few Novices and Apprentices stared. Alia looked around at them nervously.
"Umm, ta-DA?"
They shrugged it off and went back to shopping.
Alia didn't need anyone knowing about the Secret School besides her professors, relatives, and friends.
"Hey, Alia!" Alia heard as she walked through the Oasis, going to the Krokosphinx boat. She quickly twirled around to find, for some reason, Cody. "Oh. It's you. Hi," Alia said. "Awesome necklace, by the way. And what do you mean by 'hero'? And why is it a diamond? Was there a skull available? Do you think you can-" "Just be quiet!" Alia snapped. "Yeesh, why so grumpy?" Cody asked as he swatted a mosquito.
"I'm not grumpy, my mom says I must come back home at 6 o' clock. Right now it is 5 o' clock. People like me have important things to do and places to go."
"I know about the Secret School!"
Alia stared at Cody. "How?" she asked, with an awkward expression on her face. "Kevin overheard you and Sabrina talking about it ("KEVIN.." Alia mumbled to herself) and told me the details." he said." Do you know why I gave you the locket?" Alia asked again. "Kevin heard that too," was his reply.
"Well, like you said," Cody said, hopping back up onto his Black Stallion. "Some people like me have things to do and places to go! So bye!" His horse accidentally kicked sand in Alia's face as it trotted away, and Alia stood there confused.
At home, Alia stayed up late since it was a Friday. Her room was nice and spacious. Alia played with Minerva, until she heard a scream come from the kitchen, and tinkling glass. Again. She stuffed Minerva into her Bank quickly. Alia grabbed her staff and ran over to find- "You? How often are you going to drop in and try to kill me?" Alia asked the two thieves she had met 4 months ago. "Until we kill you! So surrender so we can kill you here, or let us kill you in the presence of our master!" one man said. Alia instantly started swirling and tracing and-
"Hey, what's she doing?"
-tracing and swirling and-
"That's no Life spell!"
"DUCK!"
BANG!
Alia had cast Big Bang on one thief, who seemed like a very weak person now, being crushed by the planet. The other then gulped. But Alia realized, now Malistaire would know that she was learning quickly! She zapped the other thief many times, then cast Big Bang again. Now that they had perished, Alia took Minerva out of her Bank. Alia's parents were tied up in a corner and saw EVERYTHING. Alia's parents were so shocked, they couldn't speak until the next morning at breakfast. "That was a Secret Spell, wasn't it?" Alia's father said, looking up from Ravenwood Times, the newspaper they received. Alia nodded as she ate a spoonful of cereal. Alia's parents were still in shock for the whole day.
On Sunday, as Alia read her book from Christmas, she heard repeated coughs and bangs coming from her brother's room. She rolled her eyes. She comforted her scared little kitten, then walked slowly to Sean's room. She slammed open the door. Alia stared. Her father and brother were dueling. "You're dueling why?" Alia asked. She got a nice seat on the Marleybonian chair in the corner. "We're preparing for Dworgyn's lesson tomorrow. Something YOU wouldn't care about," Sean said as he zapped his father. "It won't be hard," Alia's dad said. "A Grandmaster Diviner versus a Magus Necromancer!" "Eat your words, dad! Sean said. He attacked his father with a Wraith treasure card. He backed it up with many Death Traps and Blades. Alia's father laughed as the battle circle disappeared.
"Ah, I'm gonna remember good times with my son..."
Alia left swiftly, and went back to reading.
After Sean and Alia's father discussed the lessons again, Alia pulled Sean aside and said, "You're jealous I get to save the Spiral, aren't you?" Sean sighed, and replied, "Well, sort of. It kinda bugs me that I'm older and a higher level than you but YOU still have more of an opportunity!" "Don't worry, you will too," Alia said, patting her sibling on the back as she went off to do some quests.
As Sean sleepily walked to his room after a long night of studying, he peeked into Alia's room, where she lay asleep in her green Krokotopian bed. He wondered what she was talking about a few hours ago. As he laid down on his bed, he felt something underneath him. He got up, and saw a shiny, silver, circle shaped locket. It had a spiral on it made of Obsidian. He opened the locket. Inside was a note saying:
Wear this EVERY day. If you do, you will become the hero I told you that you would become. I will explain all when the time comes. For now, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Please know you are not the only person who has ever been puzzled by this.
-Alia Lotuspetal, A.K.A. Your little sister
Sean set it on his bedside, and fell asleep.
Meanwhile, strange things were happening to Alia. She was somehow seeing, or dreaming the future. Her very vivid vision was rather blurry at first. She started understanding and seeing clearly when the wicked, cold voice said...
"The fools failed? Why am I not surprised?"
In Alia's odd vision, it was taking place somewhere in Dragonspyre. She could tell by the decorations, walls, and floors. "Yes, for the 3rd time master!" a Draconian said to the silhouetted figure, sitting upon what appeared to be a throne. When it said, "3rd," Alia knew it must be the future.
The figure now jumped up from his seat, and pushed all of the things on a nearby shelf off of its surface. The mysterious person finally yelled, "We killed Ambrose, how come we can't kill a puny Thuergist? A MAGUS too! I am far beyond Grandmaster, I am a Headmaster!"
This made Alia realize 3 things. 1, she would live to be a Magus. (Thank goodness!) 2, her loyal, trustworthy headmaster would soon die, and 3, an evil person in Dragonspyre would soon become headmaster in his place! Alia then came to a conclusion; this horrifying man was Malistaire. Alia now pleaded it was a dream in her mind, it was like she was there in person.
"THAT'S IT!" Malistaire's booming voice yelled, as it echoed all throughout the large room. His eyes grew red somehow. "Tomorrow, we send out our greatest Draconian armies to the girl's household! We will win this time again! No losing! I have finally made it far enough. I know one thing for sure, the weakling will end up begging at my feet to just be executed instead." Alia was now screaming in her mind. "Yes master. We will do anything to kill the puny wizard!" one large Draconian said. It cackled loudly, echoing more and more.... Until everything went blurry. Then it went black.
Alia screamed as she woke up sweating. Minerva was in her bed, looked at her, and meowed. Alia gently stroked Minerva.
"WHAT? Is everything okay?" Alia's dad said, running into the room. "Nightmare," Alia said, knowing it couldn't be a nightmare. Alia's father sighed, and said, "Get back to sleep. It's 3 in the morning." Alia then was so worried, she was awake all night, and only got 10 minutes of sleep before the alarm on her clock went off.
Alia was almost crying as she ran to the Secret School. "Ah, you're early this time!" Professor Ambrose said, writing the lesson on the chalkboard. Today, Alia hadn't done as well as usual in Life classes. She knew depression always decreased your powers. "Now, today we will practice Big Bang, just to see how good you're doing. That is called-"
Alia then burst into tears.
"Professor, I don't want you to die!"
"My goodness Alia, you know I'm rather aged, but my death is a long time from now-"
"I saw the future!"
Professor Ambrose looked at her as if she was his worst fear, and he said, "That is not good."
Alia found herself in the Secret School, with a Headmaster that kept on stuttering, "N-n-no! NO! NO! NO!"
"Why no?" Alia asked. "The last person who did that ended up," Professor Ambrose said, gulping. "DYING." Alia gasped. "But WAIT," Alia said. "Did anyone else die?" "Everyone, I meant." he said. "Psychic powers become sensed by Malistaire. He then knows you can predict his every move, so he goes too far. HOW did you see it?" Alia slowly said, "Dream?" Professor Ambrose shook his head, and said, "You were pretty much seeing this in sleep? I know it's possible but it never happened to any Secret student. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to worry about. Now, on to Big Bang,"
Alia sighed. She knew an adventure would soon happen, and also that her friend, and/or her would be killed soon by the most evil man in all of the Spiral. She knew that she needed more locket recipients, and fast. She had almost ran out of friends. Maybe she could destroy an enemy? We'll see in part 8...

The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 6)
"Brrr!"
Alia said, stepping out into the cold winter air. It was of course winter, and it was the coldest Alia ever experienced. She covered her head with the hood of her light green, warm, fur lined cloak. She ran through Wizard City, thinking all about Winter Break. "No lessons! That means I won't be slowed down in Grizzlehiem!" she thought. She found Sabrina, and they both went off to defeat some Grendel Urchins, just for fun. While they were, Alia chatted with Sabrina.
"What are you doing for Winter break?" Alia asked Sabrina. "Well, I've got to practice Kraken, finish up some gauntlets, and go Christmas shopping. I saw this Amulet on discount at the Bazaar, and Grandma Jadeblossom is going to LOVE it!" she replied. "How about you?" Alia thought for a minute, and finally said," I am going to do shopping as well, do Secret lessons, and (she dodged a Grendel Urchin's attack) farm from Bosses." "Cool," Sabrina said, as they defeated the last Grendel Urchin.
Alia sat on a bench in Ravenwood and wrote in her journal,
Winter break started today. Sabrina and I are going to have so much fun defeating bosses, chatting, and just hanging out! Cody hasn't talked to me since the whole battle thing. But I still hate his guts! It was so rude, what he said to me! He is so-
But Alia heard rustling in the bushes behind her. She slowly turned around and grabbed the spy by his collar.
" Do I REALLY look that dumb to you?" Alia said angrily to Cody Dragonrider, who had such a nervous expression on his face, he broke out in a sweat. "WELL?" Alia asked. Cody stuttered as Alia dropped him back into the bushes, and zapped him with Life Ire. "So, spying, huh? That's new," Alia said. "I wasn't really 'spying'," Cody said. "I was just checking the bush, see?" he said, picking a leaf off of it. Alia gasped and zapped him once more.
"Ow! What was that for?" Cody said. "Don't you know that destroying a plant is an insult to a Life student?" Alia yelled, as she pointed to the bush, which still had a few brown leaves. "How should I know? I'm not a dumb old Thuergist!" Cody said. Alia zapped him once more, and said, "Do NOT insult the magic of Life." She teleported home as Cody said to himself, "Girls. I'll never understand them."
A week later, Alia woke up, put on her glasses, and realized, "Today is Christmas!" She ran downstairs to her festively decorated living room. There were stockings, a Christmas tree, and a small snow globe on top of the table. "Merry Christmas Alia!" Alia's mom said. Alia went down to the living room to open her presents. She got Gravewynd's Earth staff from her dad, a book called The Long battle of Death and Life, and Who's Winning from her mom, and Sean managed to farm Krokopatra enough to get a neat hat! "Thank you all," Alia said, hugging her parents and Sean. "I've gotta go see Professor Ambrose now, so bye!" Alia said, rushing out the door, with her cloak on of course!
"Merry Christmas Headmaster!" Alia said, as she stepped into his warm house. "Merry Christmas Alia!" Professor Ambrose said. "Now, get to the answers," Alia said. "What answers?" the forgetful Headmaster said. "I am so powerful because....." Alia started. "Oh! that jogged my memory," Professor Ambrose said.
"You were destined, remember?"
"Now, why were you so concerned about the locket making kit, and why was Malistaire trying to keep my friends from me?" Alia asked again.
"Both will be answered at the same time," Professor Ambrose said.
"Every single person who has been destined to save us all has had an interest in making things. Things such as bracelets, LOCKETS," he said as he looked at Alia. "Even just crafting! And every item they made was FILLED with very powerful magic, just because of the fact that they created it. And when used by someone other than them, that person would become powerful, too!" "So you're saying," Alia said. "SABRINA is now destined, too?" "Indeed," Professor Ambrose said. But then he got a grim look on his face, and said,
"That is why Malistaire wants to kill Sabrina. She'll be a boost on power for you."
"So that is why I'm giving you THIS for Christmas," he said, handing Alia a green box with a ribbon. Alia opened it, and it was a locket making kit. She looked at Professor Ambrose. "You and Sabrina may be very powerful, but Malistaire is by FAR more powerful," he told Alia. "Well, merry Christmas Headmaster!" Alia said, heading out the door. She knew her first destination: with Sabrina.
"ME?" Sabrina said as her and Alia walked through the freezing streets of Grizzlehiem. "I'M destined too? Just because of this?" she said, pointing to her golden locket, which was covered in frost. Alia nodded. Sabrina paused in her tracks, and then almost fainted, but Alia caught her. "THAT was close!" Alia said. "But, it's just so cool! Does this mean that if we survive, we'll be fighting, possibly even defeating Malistaire SIDE BY SIDE?" Sabrina asked. Alia nodded once more, and Alia then said, "We can't do this alone. We may be powerful, but Malistaire is even MORE powerful. We may need 2 more people." "Well, that's easy!" Sabrina said. "You could just take Sean and," She thought. "And, uh, someone else?" "I KNOW!" Alia said. But we'll focus on that later in the school year, right now I have to give presents to people."
"That reminds me," Alia said. She put her hand inside her cloak pocket, and pulled out a glossy new ring! It had amazing Storm stats on it. She gave it to Sabrina, and Sabrina hugged Alia and said, "In many ways, this has been the best day ever."
After giving away every last present, Alia got an idea. She turned through the pages of the spell book in the Secret School, and found the spell, Sigil Duplication. The description said:
A handy, 1 pip spell that causes there to be another sigil for someone to join in on a battle for the caster's group. Not applicable for arena duels.
Alia knew she could round up more people, and didn't want to admit it, but maybe 2 death students would be useful.
"Huh?" Cody said as he stepped on a package outside of his front door. He opened it, and there was a diamond shaped locket, with a single Obsidian in the middle. A letter inside said:
Dear Cody,
This is your Christmas present. Let's just say, as long as you are wearing this, you will someday be a hero. Trust me on this.
-Alia Lotuspetal, Adept Thuergist
Cody shrugged, put the locket on, and simply walked back inside.

The Most Powerful Spells of All
Once, there lived a wizard named Alia Lotuspetal. She was diligent, hardworking, and at the top of her Life classes. She was also very curious. But once, her curiosity got her somewhere great.... It all begins before the wall blocking Elik's Edge was built.
"Okay class, your homework tonight is to cast Spirit Armor at least 3 times. You are dismissed." said Alia's teacher, Professor Wu. "Oh,and remember to pick up your report cards!" Alia could hear some people whisper to their friends,"Of course we know what ALIA got," but Alia was never hurt by these things. "Well, you guys chat, but I'd better teleport to Sabrina, or she'll steam up like the LAST time I was late," said Alia, as she grabbed the green packet that held her report card, and simply flicked her wand.
"Oomph!" both Sabrina and Alia said, as Alia landed on top of Sabrina, her best friend. She was in the Shopping District of Wizard City. "They really should do something like putting a warning on saying WARNING, YOUR FRIEND IS TELEPORTING or something," said a giggling Sabrina. Sabrina Lightingcaster was a Journeyman Diviner, and Alia's best friend. They did almost EVERYTHING together. "Hey, Alia, I need some help defeating Biti Nirini. Could you-" Sabrina began. "Of course!" said Alia. "I was about to ask you too!" "Thanks! I just need to go to my castle and put in this new bed," Sabrina replied. Then, POOF! Off Sabrina teleported. Alia walked around the Shopping District for a while. It was October, and Spooky Bob was selling his items, there were lots of Halloween decorations, and it was cool and windy. So, Alia waited.
And waited...
And waited...
And waited...
But Sabrina still wasn't there. She managed to wander all the way to Elik's Edge. "They should put a wall up here. Someone could fall and-" Alia thought. but when she thought AND, she blinked, and there was a pole. "Oomph!" Sabrina was back. "Hey Sabrina! Look at that!" Alia said, as she rubbed her head. She pointed to the pole. "Yes, Alia. That's wide open space. Now come on! Remember? Biti?" Sabrina said. But- there's a pole RIGHT THERE!" Alia said.
"Alia, we don't have all day."
"But it's right there!"
"No it isn't."
"YES it is!"
"Alia, if you want to battle Biti alone, that's fine with me. I'll just take Mary Iceblossom instead," Sabrina said. "But there IS a pole," Alia said, running towards the cliff. "See?" she said, grasping her hand around the pole. "Alia, DON'T!" Sabrina yelled. But it was too late. Alia was sliding down the pole.
Alia was sliding down the pole, but she couldn't see the bottom of where the pole was supposed to go. "How long will this take?!" Alia thought out loud. BAM! She landed in a box. The box went up and up. Then, it stopped. There was a small piece of land, and a one story building. It looked like a school in Ravenwood, but it had a strange symbol on the door: a question mark. Alia opened the door. There were desks, a book of history, and no teacher. The chalkboard said: THE SECRET SCHOOL. Alia wondered around this strange place. Then she decided that Sabrina MUST be waiting for her. So, she jumped in the box, she went up again, and jumped on Elik's Edge. "WHOA," said Sabrina, with such shock in her eyes. "C'mon," Alia said. "Biti." So they ran off to Krokotopia.
"But it was real Mom!" Alia said to her mom, Rachel Lotusblossom at dinner, after explaining the Secret School. "Stop daydreaming in class, Alia," said Alia's older brother, Sean Deathhammer. "I only did that in Novice classes! Besides, at least I didn't drop out to be able to do whatever I wanted with my magic!" Alia angrily said. "Alia! Say sorry to your brother!" her mother yelled. "How come you and dad would always believe Sean, and you don't believe me?" Alia asked. "Well, we didn't believe him when he said Fire Elves stole all the cookies," her dad, Aedan Stormwalker said. "Alia, your grounded. Two weeks.Bed. NOW," her mother angrily said. So Alia slammed the door to her room, sat on her bed, and cried."Nobody believes me!" she sobbed. She was about to sneak out of her room and tell Professor Ambrose (she always went to him for problems), but she heard the front door slam open, and someone yelling, "WHERE IS ALIA LOTUSPETAL?" "Professor Ambrose!" Alia thought. She wiped her tears and sprung out of her bed. "Right here, Professor!" Alia yelled as she ran towards him."I was just about to-" Alia began, but saw Sabrina next to him. "Sabrina tells me of you seeing a pole on Elik's Edge, and sliding down. Then magically floating back up moments later," Professor Ambrose said. "So she couldn't see the box either," Alia thought. "Miss Lotusblossom, Mister Stormwalker, is it okay if Alia left for a few moments?" Professor Ambrose asked quickly. Just before her mom could open her mouth, POOF! They teleported into the commons. Professor Ambrose grabbed Alia's hand, and they ran quickly to his tower through the black, dark night sky. "Where's Sabrina?" Alia asked. "When I teleported here, I teleported her to her house at the same time. Hurry now," Professor Ambrose said. They ran into his tower, and the moment they did, Professor Ambrose yelled, "YOU FOUND THE SECRET SCHOOL!" "Yes, I did! You're the only one that believes me!" Alia said. "And, why is there no teacher, and no students?" Alia asked. "Because, I am the teacher," Professor Ambrose said dramatically. "And, the students?" Alia asked. "YOU are, Alia Lotuspetal," Professor Ambrose said, once again, DRAMATICALLY. "So does this school have spells?" Alia asked. "Yes. It actually has the most powerful spells of all," Professor Ambrose said. "We will discuss this tomorrow, after school, inside the Secret School. For now, I think your parents need you in bed, young Wizard." So then Alia went out of the tower, and stood there for a moment. "The most powerful spells of all, huh?" she said. And she flicked her wand, and went home.

The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 2)
Alia laid in bed that night and thought about what had happened. She had found out she was in a secret school, and she would have to meet Professor Ambrose after school. When Alia got home, her mom had told Professor Ambrose that it was very impolite to barge in like that, and to take her daughter without her approval. Also, Alia had to come straight home after school for two weeks, which was horrible because Alia had to meet Professor Ambrose. Alia would have her wand confiscated if she didn't come straight home, and then her spells would be less powerful. Well, at least she still had friends to talk to.....
Alia got up and out of bed, put on her light green spectacles, looked at the clock and- "Oh no! I'm gonna be late!" She ran to her closet and got on her nice clothes that matched her glasses, grabbed her wand, and ran downstairs. "...and so I could accomplish from where I left off. You never know if I would save the Spiral," Alia heard Sean say at the breakfast table. "Oh. Alia. NOW you decide to wake up," he said. "I'd insult you, but that would be a risk of an extended punishment," Alia said. "Dad, what was Sean talking about?" "He was thinking about what you said last night, and he wants to go back to Death School!" Her dad replied. "Eat your breakfast though, school's going to start." "Oh, yeah, forgot about that." Alia said. "One reason I dropped out," Sean said. "The pressure of being late."
"Professor Wu! Professor Wu!" Alia ran into the Life schoolroom. "Alia! You're-" Professor Wu started. "Late? Yeah, I know. What did I miss?" "We don't accept students in until 7:00, young wizard." Professor Wu said. "Oh, yeah, I forgot," Alia said, looking around the room, and of course seeing no students. "That extra credit project on different time zones got me jumbled up!" "Well, go and walk around then. Do a quick attempt battle at the Nirini Champion. I don't know. Now hurry along," Professor Wu said. Alia went to Torrence, the Storm tree, and saw Sabrina's locket on the dock. It was a gold heart shaped locket, with a single Amethyst in the center. Inside was a picture of Alia and Sabrina. Alia had one exactly like it, but with a Jade. She only gave these to her closest friends, along with filling in their star on the friends list. "I'll give this to Sabrina after school," she thought out loud. Then, next to it was another locket, not one that she gave to a friend. "This must be Mary Iceblossom's," Alia said, looking at her worst enemy's silver locket, with blue swirls of Sapphire. "It'll earn me karma points," she said, stuffing it in her pocket along with Sabrina's.
"I wonder why I haven't seen Sabrina yet today," Alia wondered, as she ran to Elik's Edge. "I also haven't seen Mary." She slid down the pole. Then, prepared herself for- BAM! She hit the box. "I'm SO finding out how to cushion this thing." She stepped onto the piece of land, and walked into the school... "Hello? Professor Ambrose? Anyone?" Alia said. The classroom was gloomy, and looked as jumbled up as the Death school. "We've finally felt it in you, young wizard," a wispy, light voice said. "Who's there?!" Alia demanded. Her hand was gripped around her wand so tightly, that her hand sweat. "Fear not," the voice said, but clearer. A glowing blue figure appeared. "You are the chosen one." "Explain! Now!" Alia ordered. "We've felt the warmth in your soul. We will tell us your story, but first, we warn you we may hurt you. Our master could be watching, and he controls us," the ghost said. "We?" Alia said. "Yes.." the ghost whispered, as other ghosts, but children about Alia's age appeared. "I am Emily Swift. I will tell you that you are one of us, but probably more powerful of a kind than I would've been." it said. "Our master was young back then, and he was as evil as now. I was destined to save the spiral, as these children ghosts told me. They had been killed by our master, and their previous teacher was killed right after he was my teacher, and I graduated, hoping to save everyone soon." "I became headmistress, and taught a few how to do this magic, waiting for my chance to come, and he killed me and my students." "So wait, is your master Mali-" "DO NOT SPEAK IT!" The ghost screeched. "He detects and controls us by saying it...." the ghost said, as it and all the other ghosts disappeared. "Ghosts explained ?" Professor Ambrose said, standing by the doorway. "Oh! Um, uh, yes," Alia said, surprised "We'll discuss spells tomorrow. Go along now," he said. So Alia got back up to Elik's Edge, and wandered around behind the shops. Then she saw Sabrina. "Hi Sabrina! You dropped your locket by-" "MWAHHAAAHAHAHAHA!" Sabrina cackled.she became tall and skinny with a black robe and axe and- wait, this was a WRAITH! "Who are y-you?" Alia asked "MY NAME IS, I CAN'T TELL YOU! AKA, YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!" it said, as a bright ball of light formed in its hand, and it threw it ad Alia's head. It was white hot, and Alia felt pain harder than she had ever felt pain before. And she fell unconscious right away. "MY WORK HERE IS DONE!" the Wraith said, as it disappeared, leaving black dust all around Alia, who was found by a new little Novice three hours later.........

The Most Powerful Spells of All (Part 5)
"NOOOOOO!"
Alia yelled as Akori Nirini once again defeated her with Locust Swarm. She was behind in Krokotopia from her being grounded, and defeating the Nirini family was not very easy. Alia was teleported back to the Oasis, and realized, TODAY WAS HER SECRET LESSON! She rushed to the Spiral Chamber. "My lesson is in 5 MINUTES! I've got to get moving!
For all of you who are not familiar with Alia Lotuspetal's story, she had discovered a Secret School underneath the Shopping District. She has had lessons there ever since.
"Why does she always wear that locket?" Alia heard as she peeked out of the spiral door. She hid behind it quickly. "Her and Lightningcaster wear it. I guess it's homemade, by the simplicity of it," she heard them say again. Of course, It was Mary Iceblossom. "Yeah, I know! Detail is everything nowadays, right?" said one of Mary's snobby friends. "Ugh. I get disgusted by that kind of stuff. I mean, who MAKES their necklaces?" said another. Alia could not stand it anymore. She threw open the door. Alia scowled at them, and left with her head held high. But before she got out, she looked back and said calmly, "It's a locket, not a necklace."
"I have HAD IT with that girl!" Alia said as she ran through the Commons. She finally got to Elik's Edge when- "Oh, shoot." A level 7 Ice wizard was there, talking to the Frost Giant. "Excuse me, Mr. Giant," Alia said. "I have to get down there, so-"
"YOU ARE NOT AN ICE WIZARD!" yelled that loud, booming voice. "YOU MAY NOT ENTER! ONLY ONE MAY ENTER, AND THAT IS ALIA LOTUSPETAL! HEADMASTER'S ORDERS MISSY, SO-"
"I am Alia Lotuspetal!" Alia yelled. "PROVE IT!" he yelled back. The Ice wizard was trembling. "I can!" Alia said. "Ask me something!" "THAT WILL NOT WORK!" the giant yelled. He banged his hammer and yelled, "AMBROSEY! COME OUT AND SEE IF THIS IS THE GIRL!" Soon, Professor Ambrose was standing in the giant's hand. He nodded his head at the giant. "UH, OOPS!" he said, as he disappeared. "But I still don't have enough information!" the Ice wizard yelled back.
"Today, we will discuss spells," Professor Ambrose said. "Now, first you need to learn the symbol. It's something like this," he said as he drew the shape. It was a long pattern of swirls. So long Alia got dizzy looking at it. "Professor Ambrose, I have a question," she said. "HOW exactly am I supposed to trace that in the air?" "Just like Storm spells," Professor Ambrose started. "These are VERY complicated and powerful. Did I mention it fizzles 40% of the time?" Alia almost fainted. So only 60% non-fizzling? She was SO shocked. "Anyways, try to trace it, feel the power building up, something trying to force out of you that you really, REALLY want, and then," Professor Ambrose jumped up from his seat. "Let it ALL out." "A bit of overload on the drama, but OK," Alia said. She tried it once, power building up, something forcing to be released from her staff, tracing and swirling and swirling and tracing, and- "Fizzle." Alia said. So she tried it again.
And again.
And again.
And again.
And-
,"Yes!" Alia yelled seeing something springing from her staff, glittery and silver and gold! "What is it, though?" Alia said, staring at the creature, similar to a cross between a Thunder Snake, a Firecat, and a Scorpion. It wasn't the prettiest thing ever. " A Mystery Beast!" Professor Ambrose said. "250 - 300 damage, such beauty, such BRILLIANCE! Such-" "When do I get my wand anyways?" Alia asked. "Oh yeah. Forgot about that. Snakeyes, cough it up!" Professor Ambrose said. He burped up a wand that was glittery, long, majestic, and covered in something similar to green mucus. It dried in. "Eew," Alia said.
"So we will practice tomorrow, OK?" Professor Ambrose said. "First," Alia said. "Mary and Sabrina were in the hospital because the doctor opened the lockets, and they came out. How? Is this a sign of danger?" Alia said. "Malistaire is trying to keep your friends away from you," he replied. "Why?" Alia asked. "I'll explain, umm, at Christmas! Yes!" he said. "At Christmas! Um, okay so just go along now, Alia."
"Wait!" Alia yelled. "Why were you so concerned about the locket making kit?" "Christmas," he replied.
"Me being more powerful than everyone else?"
"You can guess," he said. "Now go, please, I have to plan tomorrow's assignment."
"You did NOT just say that to me!" Alia heard as she walked through the commons. She saw Sabrina on Rainbow Bridge, shouting angrily at a Conjurer. "Hi Alia!" she yelled. "This 'Mr. Smartypants' just insulted me over here! He said, 'I could beat THAT girl anytime in a duel' while watching people go by on the bridge!" "It's true!" said the boy. "I've mastered Humungofrog! And have you mastered Kraken yet? NO!" he said. "Did I mention he has a little FRIEND?" she said, pointing to- "CODY?" Alia yelled. He waved nervously. "YOU? Insulting HER? With, I'm sorry, I didn't quite get his name," Alia said. "Kevin Mythcaster," Cody said. "Okay, yeah. WITH KEVIN?" Alia asked. "Well, I could beat you in a battle too,you know," Cody said. "What?" Alia said angrily with gritted teeth. "Well, you ARE Life!" he said. "Stealing is the new deal here. I mean, it's classic just watching a Thuergist get knocked out by a Vampire while the caster gains back FULL HEALTH!" Alia was getting angry now, VERY angry.
"Especially
a
GIRL."
Alia raged with anger. She was not angry. No, she was not VERY,VERY angry. She was FURIOUS. She was so angry, she was turning red. So, the words escaped her mouth without warning,
"THAT IS IT! You are going to come to a one versus one battle RIGHT THIS SECOND mister!"
"But I didn't-"
"Come right NOW," Alia said through her very gritted teeth. "And YOU TWO!" she said. She pointed to Sabrina and Kevin. "You will come and watch. No excuses. NOW." Sabrina and Kevin growled at each other and trailed behind Alia and Cody, Cody looking utterly confused, unsure, and yet, satisfied.
"We would like a one versus one ranked match, please!" Alia said. "Okay," the Ranked Match guy said, grabbing his Crowns. "Let me guess, opposite schools, same level, different gender, argument, and I'll- prove - I'm - better battle?" he asked. "Indeed. now LET'S DO THIS!" they were teleported to the Mooshu arena. "It's on," Cody said. "SO totally on," Alia said. "Go Cody!" Kevin yelled. "Go Alia!" Sabrina yelled. "Cody rules!" Kevin yelled to Sabrina. "Alia rules!" Sabrina yelled back. They both growled. Meanwhile, Alia had used Life Ire on Cody, right in the place you don't want ANYBODY to hit you with a spell. "Ouch," Sabrina said. Cody tried to cast Dark Sprite at Alia, but it fizzled. "HA!" Alia said.
Alia used Life Ire again, this time it hit Cody's chest, and Cody used Death Trap. Alia used her Death Shield, and Cody used his Dark Sprite, which only did 43 damage. "Wow, I am SO scared!" Alia said. Cody growled. Alia, who now had 4 pips, cast a Seraph treasure card. That card did 400 damage. Cody staggered over and cast Ghoul. Alia looked at her remaining treasure cards, and grinned. She cast a Leprechaun that did 220 damage! Cody had about 400 health. And his deck was shuffled so that there were no Life stealing cards, and no Healing. So he just cast Death Trap. Alia gained a Power Pip! She used a Death Shield Treasure card, and Cody's spell fizzled. "Am I getting ANY luck?" Cody said. "Well, your unluckiness JUST increased!" Alia said, who now had 2 Power Pips. She cast a Minion! "Oh, COME ON!" Cody said. He managed to finally cast a Vampire, and now he had 500 health, but Alia still had 900.
Alia FINALLY fizzled on Nature's Wrath, but her little Sprite cast an Imp on Cody. But this Imp tugged at Cody's ears and punched him with his little Imp fists. "Get this beast OFF OF ME!" Cody said, swatting the Imp, which finally clonked him on the head with his Violin (200 damage!), and disappeared. Cody cast a Sprite Treasure Card, which only gave 50 healing. Alia nodded at the Sprite Minion, and cast her last Seraph Treasure card, which did 400 damage! The Sprite giggled, and cast an Imp, which did 105 damage, and Cody was knocked out! "YES!" Alia said, Hi-fiving the Sprite before she disappeared. "No!" Kevin yelled. "You see," Alia said to Cody.
"That is why you do not mess with a Thuergist."
Sabrina said,"Good job my non-fizzling friend!", as they walked through Unicorn way. "Hey, you know, I'm trying to earn some gold," Sabrina said. "and I know you're still trying to defeat the Nirini Family, so-" "Say no more," Alia said. They trotted off into the nice, breezy November afternoon, and, well, that's the end of part 5 I guess!
In part 6, Alia will receive many gifts for Christmas, and one of the most important things in our tale will be revealed.Alia's questions will be answered, especially the one about the locket making kit. But that's another part.

The Most Powerful Spells of All (Part 4)
"Oh Alia, it was HORRIBLE!" Alia's mom said. "The men grabbed onto me. Your father zapped them with some kind of lightning, but one conjured up a Banshee, so your father was weak. Me and Sean tried to defend ourselves, but they were too strong!" "That glass breaking," Alia said "What do you think they were trying to steal?" "They said something about lockets," Alia's Mother replied. "My locket making kit!" Alia said. "It's in a glass box! Why would they want it?" "Who knows?" said Sean. Minerva meowed sadly. "Oh kitty!" Alia said. "Did they do anything to her?" "Your cat was hiding," Alia's dad said. "They had NO clue that you had a kitten!" "Wow," Alia said, smiling at her cat. While Minerva ate, Alia's mother explained her NEW punishment. "You will come straight home after Secret School lessons, except on weekends for 2 weeks." Alia thought that was kind of fair.
"So, you still don't remember what happened at the dock?" Alia asked Sabrina on her way to school.
"NOPE."
"Okay."
"You know, the lady in the hospital told me she found the lockets in your pocket, opened them, went to the bathroom, then when she came back, Mary and I were on 2 beds!" "Very odd," was Alia's reply. Sabrina rushed ahead to her Storm class, and Alia tailed behind, walking slow because of tiredness. Then, out of nowhere, something rare in the commons caught Alia's eye. A health wisp! Alia ran towards it with the rest of her energy, now about a yard away from it. It disappeared. But before Alia could realize that, while she was still running, a Death student came out of nowhere and- "Oomph!" They ran into each other, each dropping all of their parchment, books, quills, and ink! "Oh I am SO-" the male Necromancer started. But before he could say sorry, he stared at Alia. "Well, I guess the charm wore off," he said. "What charm?" Alia said, remembering Professor Ambrose's words. "Well, I saved this Life wizard, she was unconscious behind some shops. Her name I think was-" "Alia Lotuspetal?" Alia asked. "Yeah, that's it! And- WAIT! How did you know?" the boy asked. "It's nice to meet you, Cody Dragonrider," Alia sad.
"HOW DID YOU-"
While Cody was babbling, Alia changed her hat to the one she was wearing when Cody saved her.
"OH."
"Yeah." Alia said. "Well nice to meet you"- DIIIING!
"Oh no! The bell!" Alia said. "Here," Alia said, putting each others names on the friend's lists. Then Alia picked up her things, and headed off to her early lesson on Seraph
.
Alia bought a cushion from the Bazaar, slid down the pole with the cushion attached to her behind, so that way- SLAM! Though it was loud, it was much more cushioned. She detached it, left it, and walked towards the school. She entered the building, then Professor Ambrose was inside. He had a cauldron, herbs, and some VERY rare reagents.
"Welcome to Orientation."
"You must take every ingredient that you think is good, and put it in," he said. "Good as in-" Alia asked. "What you feel is good." Alia was taking skin off of some fresh, rare, speckled sparkly mandrakes. "You know, yesterday thieves were in my house," Alia said. "Oh really?" Professor Ambrose said. He picked up a very rare glass diamond. For some reason, a Humungofrog appeared on top of them, then barfed on them. Which is weird, because my second school is Fire. They also stole my locket making kit."
Professor Ambrose dropped the diamond, which then shattered into a million pieces.
"The-the-the LOCKET MAKING KIT?" Professor Ambrose asked. Alia stared as she dropped in some solidified Ectoplasm. "Why is that important?" Alia asked. "Oh, I MUST get to the Amulet Shop!" said Professor Ambrose, running out. Alia shrugged. She had dropped in the petrified wood of a Treant, then thought, "My headmaster is odd today."
After dropping in many more things, including 3 Black Pearls and the remains of the glass diamond, Alia thought it was enough. Professor Ambrose rushed back in, saying, "My, that was awkward. OK, are you done?"
"Yes." Alia replied. "Great!" Professor Ambrose said. "Now," he said, grabbing an old oaken case, then blowing the dust off. "Take this," he said, opening it. It contained legendary artifacts from each school. He took out the one labeled LIFE, and it was a leaf. But Alia knew this was not ANY old leaf. There were legends and stories about this leaf, there were wizards who had spent their whole lives searching for it, and Alia was in shock. All Thuergists would have been so jealous if they knew that Alia was right there, right now.
This was the Legend's Leaf.
It was said to be the most beautiful leaf in the world, and it was indeed. It was Bartelby's first leaf. It was so rare, because if you dipped it into an unknown elixir, (unknown until NOW.) and held it in your hand, it would glow and something amazing would happen to you. But sometimes, AMAZING would be disastrous. "Dip it in." Professor Ambrose said. Alia could not believe now she was holding it. She dipped it into the mixture, which was now smooth and green, and held it. It did not glow. Alia was so disappointed, but then Professor Ambrose explained.
"It may not glow, but solve this riddle by sunset, and you'll see what happens."
"Drop where water falls over darkness, and thou shall see." he read.
Alia said goodbye, and went up with the leaf. But for some reason, Ceren Nightchant was chatting with Harvest Hannah. "How about I get that nice staff for 100 crowns? If you do then- STOP RIGHT THERE MISSY!" Obviously he had seen the leaf glimmering in Alia's hand. "What's that in your hand?" Ceren said staring Alia down. Alia gulped. Ceren Nightchant was a Thuergist! "Oh, Hi Ceren! See you're still an Initiate-" "Hey! I remember you! You're the girl that cast an Imp that did 200 damage! Well you think you're so famous you can steal a ring, huh?" he said.
Alia cleared her throat. "I need to mind my own business, and you need to mind your own business. So-"
"PROFESSOR AMBROSE! THIEF IN THE SHOPPING DISTRICT! THIEF IN THE SHOPPING DISTRICT! Hey where do you think you're going?!" Ceren yelled. Alia ran off saying ,"I'm Alia Lotuspetal, if you wanna tell him that!" Alia wiped the sweat off of her forehead. "That was a close one."
Alia thought for awhile, then came to a conclusion. There was a waterfall going off the Haunted Cave, then the ocean. Or at least a mile of salty water until the cliff. Alia decided she'd do that. So she ran to Triton Avenue, through it, and into the dark, scary cave. She dropped it into the water. Alia felt like she was going to cry. A whole 5 minutes had passed, and nothing happened. Alia waited, and waited, and then now 20 minutes had passed. Alia took a gulp of air, took her staff and began to wave it in a pattern used to teleport, but then something hit her.
It hit her on the head. It was hard, like a rock. But Alia did not see anything. An odd thing happened, the water turned sparkly, deep, dark purple. Alia felt cold wetness, then opened her eyes. Alia was under the water! Alia gasped! Reason one, SHE GASPED! So she could breath under water! Reason two, A STORM SHARK WAS COMING AT FULL SPEED TOWARDS HER! Alia zapped it several times with Life Fury, and it died. Alia saw a Storm Shark treasure card had taken its place. She grabbed it and stuffed it into her pocket. There were patterns of pebbles all over the bottom, but Alia noticed a pattern that read, "Look for the cave with the Storm Pearl." Alia saw a sparkling cave, and swam to it. "WOW!" Alia yelled. There were hundreds of pearls! But Alia had to look for the Storm Pearl. "Now," Alia thought out loud. "There are lots of pearls in this cave, so I'd better choose the right- Oh, that was easy!" Alia had glanced over to her left, and had noticed a BIG (about the size of Alia's head) pearl! It was purple and shiny. Alia held the pearl, which was surprisingly light. Engraved in it was, "Answer this, are you destined to save the spiral? Ask something odd and almost inanimate and you will get the answer." Then Alia noticed something, SHE COULDN'T BREATH ANYMORE! She swam quickly back up to the surface, coughed many times, then dried off her clothes with her wand. Thank goodness she was secondary Fire!
Alia was going to leave and think about what the pearl said. But as she turned around, she heard whirring, and felt a splash of water. There was a whirlpool, and then the waters calmed. Then, in the water was the word, Hello.
Alia screamed. She was about to run, when she remembered the pearl. Something odd and almost inanimate. "You can talk, right?" Alia said to the water.
Yes.
"Can you answer questions?"
Absolutely.
"Am I destined to save our Spiral?
About a minute had passed with no reply, and Alia thought, "Why bother?" But then there was another whirlpool, and the water, once calmed said,
YES!
Alia screamed with happiness, and teleported home. She told her family about it, got extra dessert for it, when Sean said,"Does that REALLY matter? I'm going back to school!", he got grounded, and Alia's cat slept with her that night. Alia had a great day. Sadly, she wouldn't have another Secret Lesson until 2 weeks later, but she was still okay. Alia didn't know that Cody wouldn't be such a "friend" after all yet. But she'll discover that in part 5.

The Most Powerful Spells of All (part 3)
Alia wandered around behind a few shops. Sabrina was there, and as Alia was explaining the locket Sabrina became a Wraith. The Wraith would not reveal its identity, and Alia, more nervous than ever saw the ball form in its hand, and felt the white hot unforgettable pain. First everything was a blinding light, then everything went black.....
"Where am I ?......"
Alia woke in a very tired, worn feeling. She felt a warm bed, and for the first time in hours, she saw light. "Oh dear! You're finally awake! Lay back down dear, lay back down," a kind soft voice said. It was sort of like a cross between Professor Greyrose and Wu's voice. They were obviously a doctor. "ALIA!" An alarming voice yelled across the room. Alia's mom and dad were there. They both ran to her and smothered her in hugs and kisses. "That's-oomph!-Enough!" Alia said from underneath. "Oh Alia, we're so sorry!" Alia's mother said. "Next time TELL US why you have to come home after something else!"
"SABRINA!!!" Alia yelled.
"Who?" the kind, blond doctor asked.
"Sabrina! She's brown haired, purple and yellow clothing, Adept Diviner-"
"I'm here! Put on your glasses!" A familiar voice said. Alia grabbed her glasses, put them on, and on the bed next to her was Sabrina! "Sabrina!" Alia yelled. "There you are! Where were you all day?!!" "Stop ,the,YELLING!" A familiar whiney voice yelled. "Oh. It's you Mary." Alia said. The pouty, silver haired Ice wizard sat there with her hands over her ears. "My head has been KILLING me since, well, who knows what happened!" "Mary, cool off. It's strange how an Ice wizard can get as firey as a Fire wizard," Sabrina said. "DO-NOT-INSULT-THE-MAGIC-OF-ICE!" Mary screamed. "Geez, cool down a bit more Mary, it's just an expression-" "My WHOLE family is Ice, my Mom, my Dad, even my CAT is. Thanks for insulting my practical RACE, Sabrina Lightingcaster!" she said. "Your CAT?" Alia asked. "He's blue colered," Mary replied coldly, with an icy look in her eyes. See, she IS Alia's worst enemy.
"ALIA!" another voice yelled across the room. Alia yelped, trying to protect herself from being nearly suffocated again. But it wasn't a relative. It was Professor Ambrose! "Alia! Malistare was controlling the ghosts! He made the ghosts forget to tell you not to go behind any shops!" he said. "Malistare?" "Shops?" "Ghosts?" All of these questions came from all corners of the room. Her parents had an alarmed look on their face, Sabrina was shocked, Mary and the doctor looked just plain confused, and a man who had walked in just when he said, "Malistaire" Had dropped the parchment he was holding, ran out the door, and was yelling,"He has returned! He has! Yes Malistaire, who else do you think, Lord Nightshade?!"
"He made them dissapear before they could warn you! One boy actually DIED when that happened! He was also destined, but got KILLED!" Professor Ambrose said. There were now gasps around the whole room. "And what's horrible is-" "Wait!" Alia said. "One thing, WHO saved me?" "Ah yes," Professor Ambrose said. "I was getting to that part. He's a cunning, educated, smart, fantastic-"
"We get it!" Mary yelled.
"-Wizard." He said. "He was going to skip about 10 grades, already knew Banshee, my goodness..." He said. "WHO?" everyone around said. "Well he's going to skip about 10 more because of his effort, learned Curse and all priors, smart boy.." "Um, you know Professor Ambrose, you wanna know a word that's stuck in my head right now?" Alia said. "WHO???!!!" "Cody Dragonrider. So, he received a new badge that says, 'Savior of a Life wizard'," He said. "And you mentioned Banshee and Curse, right?" Alia asked. "Yes." "So you're saying a- a- a," Alia gulped. "DEATH wizard saved me?" "Indeed." Alia was shocked. Someone of the opposing school? Saving HER? It was all so confusing. "Did I mention the boy is kind?" Professor Ambrose said. "He said he'd like to meet you, but then his parents charmed him with a spell that made all Thuergists invisible to him." Alia nearly upchucked at the thought of meeting him, but eagerly needed to meet him, too! Alia was very confused.
Alia got out of the hospital soon. She explained Malistaire, the shops, and the ghosts to Sabrina, and also the secret school. They were walking along in the shopping district. "Wow Alia! You actually COULD save the spiral!" Sabrina said. "On the way out of the hospital, Professor Ambrose gave me this," Alia said, holding up a piece of paper. The paper said:
Secret School Orientation
Tomorrow
3:00 pm
Don't be late, this is important.
"Orientation?" Sabrina asked. "I thought you went to the school before?" "Yes, but I never had a real lesson," Alia said. "Oh, look!" Sabrina said. "There's a new Holiday Vendor!" And indeed there was. "Hello! I'm Harvest Hannah! Would you like an Item for a good price of crowns?
"No thanks," Sabrina answered. "We're fine."
"You know, I never remember how I ended up in the hospital." Sabrina said.
"Odd." Alia replied.
" Last thing I remember was me and Mary arguing." Sabrina said. "We were on the dock by Torrence. Mary was insulting Storm. I argued with her and she also said,'Storm. What a dumb school. It even has a dumb TREE.' Like Torrence already had enough to frown about!" "The dock is where I found your locket," Alia said. "And Mary's, as well." "That's quite strange." Sabrina said. "Well, c'mon. Your parents need you home now." Sabrina said.
"Meow," Alia heard as she opened the door. "Hi kitty!" Alia said, petting her gray kitten, Minerva. She purred loudly. "Mom, Dad, Sean, I'm home!" Alia yelled. She heard the sound of glass tinkling, and stomping footsteps. "Theives!" Alia thought. She grabbed Minerva, and hid under the tiny jade table in her living room, while meanwhile whispering to Sabrina over menu chat,"Sabrina! help!"
"No, YOU are awesome Zan'ne! Thanks for the treasure cards! -Oh, sorry, what Alia?" "There are thieves in my house! They just broke something upstairs!" Alia said. "Oh No! I'll get everyone I can to go there, OK? You just stay right-"
"AAAHH!-"
"Alia?" Sabrina asked slowly.
"The boss is gonna love THIS!" the scary voice said. Its hand reached towards Alia. She grabbed her fallen wand, and zapped him and the man behind him with Life Ire. "Like you're gonna kill me!" Alia said. She didn't know how, but a Humungofrog fell headfirst on to both of them, flipped over, and, well you know the rest. I just didn't want to make a queasy person, UHH... you know. "UGH!" both of the men exclaimed, disgusted.
"WOW." Alia said
"You may have won this time, puny wizard," the one that hadn't talked said. "But we'll get your soul, we promised this to our master."
Alia was in such horrid shock. "We'll be back..." the first man said, as he teleported somewhere. "MMPH!" there was a noise in the closet! Of course, Sean, her mom, and her dad were in the closet. Alia untied them, and Alia's mother decided to explain what happened, which she will in part 4.
