If you mean Ice Armor the spell, then the issue is not with the absorb shield, but with the Ghoul. Drains in general do NOT work on any of the absorb shields. For example, if Scarecrow or Vampire were cast it would ignore Ice Armor too.
As pointed out earlier, Drain Spells (mostly death spells having a broken heart on the spell card) will always ignore any form of absorb ward you may have in effect such as Ice Armor and Life's very own Absorb spell.
You can minimise damage however by using typical death shields etc.
This also works if you are the one using the spell and the enemy/opponent happens to have an absorb spell up.
