Hey there. I'm glad that I became a subscribing member after so long so I can post this. First forum post btw, please give constructive feedback. :)
This is an email that I sent to KI's customer support. They asked me to put it here, so here you go! :D
I love the game: I've been playing well before the level cap was increased for the first time.
I play a lot of other games too. Sometimes, I get the controls for other games mixed up with Wizard101.
Therefore, if Wizard101 had keybinds, it would be pretty easy for me to fix this problem.
For example, in Minecraft, you press the E key to open your inventory. I often catch myself pressing E to try and open my backpack in Wizard101. If I could rebind the Backpack key to E, I wouldn't have to go back and press B.
This would be a pretty small improvement, but I feel that it would help those of us who are in too deep with PC gaming.
I would very much enjoy having this capability after the next update. I would unbind the ill-placed "teleport" key so hard that I'd have to walk five blocks just to push it.

I haven't actually done this, but I did find this information on one of the fansites. Players shared their experience with remapping the keyboard shortcuts. It is a very old guide, but maybe this will help:

Hi. This is my second reply. In the first reply, I posted a link to wizard101central.com that showed a guide.
But over on Central, I also posted that link and asked about changing keyboard shortcuts, and one of the replies said that we should not do this. It may be a bannable offense (changing the files).
I have also sent an e-mail to community@kingsisle.com, asking them if we can use the guide and change our shortcuts. In the meantime, maybe someone from KI can respond on this posting to let us know if it is okay?
AluraMist2, you have made my weekend with this. I am going to attempt to remap right away.
Thanks for the reply. Please let me know how this works out for you? I'm not really good with making changes like this on the computer, so I hesitated trying it. And I haven't heard back from KI saying that we cannot do this. So I would like to try it too.

I held off on doing this when I saw the word "bannable" come up.
Any word on whether this is still kosher? I need not to teleport out of a dungeon ever again.
I read the Central thread. If one of the senior producers says that it's OK, I believe it's fine. Of course, if one of the community managers would like to comment on this, their word is definitely more reputable than mine.
Looks like you only have to find the <Event TYPE="STR">whatYouWantToRebind</Event> for whatever you want to rebind and then change the <Key TYPE to whatever you want.
On the Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys, you might notice that the values are set to either 0 or 1. These are called boolean values, which represent false and true, respectively. If, for example, I wanted the Backpack keybind to be Ctrl + B, I would replace the 0 in <Ctrl TYPE="BYT">0</Ctrl> with a 1.
I'll definitely be messing around with this a lot more. Maybe there's a way we can bind functions to mouse buttons for those of us with gaming mice.
We understand that players want to be able to remap and disable certain keyboard shortcut keys. At this time we do not offer an interface to remap keyboard shortcuts, but will discuss the possibility of that feature for a future release.
Let me remind you, however that editing your XML file directly is done so at your own risk. Our Terms of Use state: “You may not modify, adapt, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to discover the source code of such software.”
We will not condone the editing of the XML file, but we also not actively sanction for remapping your shortcut key bindings in this manner. All other modifications to game files will be evaluated separately.
