pets with extra item cards

Some pets say they have 1 or no item cards but show more cards as it ages. Examples sea dragon, spiny fish, and myth imp.
If you know how or what this ability is called can you please tell me.

There are card giving traits that add a card or more to your deck. You must train your pet for a chance at those traits.

It varies unless the pet comes with a card, the cards you are referring to are talents that are trained, luck of the draw random manifestation, unless you start breeding them into the pedigree.
