Gambling is specifically paying money to win MONEY. Real world money, not game funds and not non monetary prizes of any kind.

Gambling is not specific to money. It is simply risking one thing of value (crowns) in the hopes of winning something of greater value (skeletal dragon mount). You risk your crowns and then watch as what you won is revealed in a fashion clearly taken from a slot machine or a scatch off lottery ticket. The jackpot of course is the mount and the low price per a chance makes it very tempting. It is clearly gambling. For adults this is fine but for children is very very shady.

Well let's see. When you buy that lottery ticket or use that slot machine what do you have? An empty wallet and NOTHING to show for it. A real life example of gambling.

Contrast that to the Dragon Rider Pack, you spend your crowns and you get stuff. Now it becomes sour grapes because you did not get that ULTRA RARE mount. The fact you don't like the stuff you received doesn't change the fact you got stuff. A real life example of chance or luck.

This is a good lesson many people need to learn that we don't always get what we want. We need to learn self control and when the risk outweighs the benefit. I was taught those principles when I was a very young child and I have taught them to my kids.

The gambling argument makes me shake my head in disbelief. It is such a stretch I can't believe it. If you apply that same standard to everything in life it is just one big gamble.

Its not a gambling augument is gambling by every logical sense of the word. It is gambling in fact. The question is, are you ok with the way it is deliberately designed to seperate children from their crowns/money. Its really very smart you sell the big item you can win, you create a low price point so kids take chance after chance and have no idea how much they spent until it is all gone. You also get stuff that at the start seems to hold some value, until you have 20 of the same item and see that thousands of other kids are already selling them at the bazaar. When dealing with adults one can simply say they should know better. When dealing with children it just comes of as predatory and very shady.

Also to address those who compare it baseball cards or pokemon cards this does not hold water. If you but a pack of cards you get a pack of cards. Some may hold more value than others but at the end of the day you know you are getting cards. The dragon pack gives you what? Well you do not know until you risk your money to find out.

All one has to do is read what children are posting or just observe they way they are repsonding to this thing to know that it is a very underhanded way of taking childrens money. Its really kind of discusting when you think about it.

Shocking how ppl call it gambling lol.....EVERYTHING IS GAMBLING IN GENERAL! But gambling by the way is being stated is wrong.

Gambling is wasting money in the hopes to get something....and yet tons get 0 back. This is not the case since you do get stuff. So far i havent gotten a pack that didnt have something ok in it. Something i find use in. Meaning I got my money worth. When i go to the Casino i tell ya I dont get anything XD.....Sorry these complaining noobs arent getting what they want.....but why is it only this pack is the questionable gamble when there are other packs as well....only the garden one gives the same things over and over.

Tons more things are gambles in the game. How many times did you have fight an enemy to get the statue you wanted?...how many times did you have to Hatch pets, how many times did you train pets in hopes to get stat boosts you want?.....Its all a gamble but you do get something back.

Gambling by the illegal way as some see 'ONLY' the dragon's hoards pack is flawed.....Plus......ever hear of Las Vegas?...

Sorry This post is laughable and shouldn't of even been placed in forums

This is exactly why anything in packs should be purchaseable for crowns as individual items. No one would be calling the packs gambling if this were so. People would buy the packs and get many of the items they want and then would simply purchase for crowns those they want that they didn't get. If they lack an item that they want and buy pack after pack trying to get that items its merely foolishness on their part when they have an option to simply buy. By not having such items available for crown purchase in the crown shop, and by having the only way to get them as being through packs with merely a chance of getting them leads to a lot of angry gambling accusations which are somewhat founded and this situation which is stemming from how Wizard101 set up the situation does not belong in a game that bills itself as being parent and kid friendly. This was however Wizard101 first attempt at introducing such a blister pack item so hopefully they will modify it to make it more kid and parent friendly.

I don't see it as gambling because everyone receives the same thing- 7 virtual cards with the same real life monetary value of zero. you couldn't sell the dragon mount for a penny even if you wanted to. plus, buying the packs is fully optional and in no way required to complete the game. the game and packs aren't the problem; the spoiled 'i want' syndrome is. -etherchaos

I wonder if I am the only one to have spent over 50 000 Crowns and not have gotten the Bone Mount that so many players got when purchasing just a few packs! I know it's all luck but I cannot possibly be this unlucky! All I wanted was that Bone mount and got so much other stuff I don't even like and it didn't sell for good amount of gold! I am so sad, upset and frustrated! This is the first time in over a year playing this game that I am so upset with KI and not sure if I want to keep playing this game!

oh wow i bought about 10 packs and i have the full dragon dragon rider set.
didn't like boots so i sold them. but the boots i have are stronger.

also got other stuff that is basically DS stuff for decor as well. some i wanted and had not gotten. as for bone dragon if i get it i get it if i dont oh well less to care for.

the cards are random what ever you get it it simply in the cards that fall.

dont worry about it just use what you can sell rest and buy more to play with.

LOL....Bartleby(well more like twisted dragon now) Treasure cards are the same way which implies that everyone should step back and stop annoying KI with unfounded acusations....Does anyone go off the deep end when they dont get the spells they want from the treasure packs?

With all the feedback on 'WE WANT THEM PURCHASABLE AT THE HIGH CROWN PRICES AS WELL' KI probably will add them. But i think the packs are fairer....took a fair few crowns but i think I have everything but i got a profit of about 10 to 1 MIN as much as 40 to 1 so yeah......decor is only a bonus....its everything else that really counted....

Think almost every pack I opened i got about 5k to 15k crowns worth....how is that gambling?....I got WAY more than the worth. But hey....hope you all get your 'DRAGON' since i know thats basically all its about.....another person talked about sword.......well at least if it was added to shop it would be only like 5k crowns.....

Whether or not it is gambling, it is an accepted form of gambling for children. 399 Crowns = 79.8 Cents. This is cheap compared to other 'child appropriate' accepted forms of gambling (trading card games) which normally costs $3.99 + tax per pack.

Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG packs are:
8:1 chance of Common (Super Rare + eats up common slots in pack)
1:1 chance of Rare (silver foil name)
1:4 chance of Super Rare (Holofoil picture)
1:12 chance of Ultra Rare (Holofoil picture, Golden foil name)
1:24 chance of Ultimate Rare (Holofoil picture, name, and star level)
1:36 chance of Secret Rare (Extra Foiled picture, foiled name)
1:64 chance of Ghost Rare (3D Holofoil picture, foiled name)

In each 100 card booster series of Yu-Gi-Oh! you are looking at roughly:
48 Commons
20 Rares
14 Supers
10 Ultras (and Ultimates)
8 Secrets
1 Ghost

With each SEALED Booster Box (24 packs) you are going to get 4-6 Super, 2 Ultra, 1 Ultimate or Secret per sealed box. Buying 24 packs out of open boxes gets you back right to the default statistics. A Sealed Booster Box costs roughly $100.00 per box depending upon price of pack. I've seen people open packs and get 5 Holofoils in a pack. I've opened packs and gotten 4 Ghost Rares packaged together once. End of the day, it's all random.

I'm sorry, but don't expect pity from me for this issue. As stated before, you're paying money for a pack of Dragon-themed items. This isn't really 'gambling' because you always get something for your crowns, unlike with wishing wells which were giving Potions which wouldn't activate.

At the end of the day, are you really going to complain about something that is only $0.80 per pack?

Ok most of these stats are fairly accurate and do hold some relivance.....I would like to point out that getting 5 holorares though are special packs not normal packs...I have gotten them myself I own over 6k cards mostly 3 of each card excluding some rarer ones which is more like 2 of each... I even play it online with no where near as assorted cards but still yes.... The Dragon's Hoard pack i find fair as you have stated....

Only suggestion i have said a few times so far in these posts....is KI should add them to Crown shop for those few that dont like the Packs....

As i have said i think in 1 of my replies i have out of about 20k maybe 25k just to give a max understanding...I got about 2x of all the crown items which sky rocketed the worths...Yes i got some 3x and even 6x of a few items which sure...i kinda am bummed over a tiny but........Still.....You get your worth.....thats what ppl that post negative about the packs about should sit back and look at....

I am glad i wouldn't have had to spend(adding up with quick calcing) give or take 77k crowns for just 'SINGLES' of the rare items.....Sure only dragon, Utility set would be the only 2 most would want so say 20 to 30k for just one of each. If you like pets, sword, or other sets, thats roughly 77k crowns.... Guess thats it......

Guess this will be my 'last' post in these......frankly i think these kinds of posts should be moderated better.....most players dont seem to listen to players and if a MOD/ADMIN said something....even EXACTLY SAME THING....they would automatically consider it better. I know what i see and yes the only complaint i consider acceptable is for the items to be put in shop....they should for those that want to give KI more money for less....

What you guys fail to realize is that crowns are basically real money. You spend real money for the crowns.

They cease being "real money" once you buy them. Then they become a premium in game currency. You can't return crowns for cash if you quit playing. You can only use them in game. Megan

Okay, I have to comment, because I'm so addicted to buying these things, for no other reason than it's cheap, fluffy retail-therapy. :P I just spent $25 of crowns on the things and, while a lot of the items were kinda common, I did end up with a few amazing finds; anything I didn't want or need, I just sold for gold or put in my shared bank. Among some of the gems I received:

-awesome pieces of level 60 gear, including boots that can cast Rebirth. Not really of much use to my main char, since she is a legendary Balance and already has her level 60 gear from Waterworks, but my Life wizard will definitely get some wear out of them later on. :)

-the elusive bone-dragon mount! I love my purple glider, though, so I'll be giving this one to my necromancer; he looks a bit silly in Seraph wings, even though they match his costume. I also got a pair of dragon wings (permanent ones), and a few (like, 8) different temp mounts.

-some seriously-awesome treasure cards: fire dragon, bone dragon, dragonblade, a couple of polymorphs... the list goes on!

-4 new pet dragons, for my ever-expanding pet collection.

-a seriously-epic sword, for my school. :) This made me happy, because the staff I got in WT (the viking one) was starting to creep me out- it looked like Cousin It, from the Addams Family, and it was definitely time for an upgrade.

Hate if you will, but it's really too bad if you can't see this kinda thing for what it is- fun. As for the person who mentioned simulated gambling: when I was a kid, everyone used to collect the Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls stickers/photos (yes, I am dating myself here). Any time we bought a pack, there was always the chance that we'd get a few that we didn't want or need, but there was also the chance of getting an ultra-rare one. I don't see how this is any different from Dragon's Hoard; I don't know what the American laws are, but I'm pretty sure that the game does not need to be rated Teen, for this to take place.

I have two opinions about the dragon rider pack. One is it's EPIC and it has good stuff in all but here is my second opinion. You have to get lucky in order to get certain items. to me this seems like gambling . I do not like this. in stead of having it as a pack, put each dragon rider item for regular crowns sale. This way kids won't get frustrated and this pack wont be setting such a bad example. Thank you for reading this post.

I got the head gear, robe, shoes, mount, and wand on my first try
