So is 60000 crowns enough to finish the game?

With the $60 for 60000 crowns deal, I am not sure if I should pay for a monthly subscription or buy the crowns and unlock the game that way. Right now I pay about $15 a month for my son and I. We just started the week after Christmas. We play probably 3-4 days a week for maybe 2-3 hours at a time, and are at level 20 or so. Anyone have any math that would help me know which way to pay? :-)

Thanks for your help!

well, the real question here is what should i get, crowns or subscription? well, if you just want to flat out beat the game, crowns is ultimatly made a total RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!! i would recomend a one year sub ( they have sales every other month or so, sometimes its a crowns sale and sometimes its a sub sale, the sub sales usally only count for the year, so wait for the sale) with a few crowns. this way you can get one or two crown items to help you out evrey now and then but dont have to waste litterly 1,000,000,000 crowns on buying new worlds. seriusly if you look at the area pricing then you relize that youll save money with the sub, sale or no sale. plus, with sub you get unlimited acsess to ranked pvp and pet derby, instead of buying ecstensive crowns which will again add up to infinity and a half crowns.so for the avreage player like you, get a 1 year sub with about say 10,000 crowns ( roughly ten dollars with gift card)

Buy the subscription.

What is not shown to you until AFTER you buy your first "area" is how MANY chargeable areas there are ...

I don't remember the number, ...

but I do remember laughing out loud at the two-three column, single spaced, LISTING which was 2-3 typed pages long ... had to be a 100+ $5 to $10 multiple crown purchase "areas" that my nephews were tearing through at 2-3 a month.

Stopped counting when I busted $150 in area buys and was NOWHERE near the end of the list ... went monthly to be sure the kids would not tire of it quickly ... they didn't.

$9.95/mo is CHEAP.

The Christmas Special of $59.95 for a year was THE deal and I grabbed it.

I think they will run it again.

Subscribing also allows you to pvp and pet derby and stuff so it is a little better.

I can answer your questions, young Wizard.
Which Buy Option is Right for Me?

Wizard101 has a free to play area that you're invited to enjoy for as long as you want. There is no level cap in the Free to Play areas, just a location restriction.

If you wish to explore beyond Triton Avenue, you will need to purchase time in the game with a subscription, or areas in the game with crowns.

Whether you purchase a subscription or pay by area, really depends on how you think you will play the game.

If you plan to push through as much of the content as possible in the shortest amount of time, then a month to month subscription is the best value for you.

If you plan to play several characters over a long period of time, then a 6month or 1year subscription is probably the best value for you.

If you only have a few hours a week to spare, or will hold off playing for long periods of time, then purchasing individual areas is the best value for your time. It allows you to purchase just the next street you need to progress, and once you've purchased an area, it's accessible to all your characters on that account. Purchasing individual areas lets you progress at your own pace without feeling like you have a subscription hanging over your head.
The prices for the individual areas can be found here: https://www.wizard101.com/game/areapricing

If you're not sure, then use the Free to Play portion of the game as your guide. See how fast you move through to the end of Triton Avenue, and gauge your passion and your available time accordingly.

Crowns
Players can EARN Crowns!
Go to https://www.wizard101.com/game?context=iaf .
Follow the instructions and you're well on your way to Earning Crowns that will allow you to purchase Premium areas of Wizard101.

As for items requiring Crowns, items that do not shortcut the game (such as Henchmen, Elixirs etc) are available also for Gold and/or are found as drops of creatures in the Spiral. There are alternate ways of obtaining these types items that do not require paying with Crowns.

Exceptions do exist of course, including Stitching (putting the stats of one item onto the appearance of another), and Respec (turning in your secondary school cards for the Training Points back)

I have done the math :D
Prior to Celestia - cost in crowns 58,470
Including Celestia - cost in crowns 68,640

This is the cost of doing only questing and does not include any crowns for PvP or Pet Derby. (If you do these two things, then subscription might be the way to go.)

Some people have a tendency to exaggerate the total cost of the game in crowns.

I once had two yearly subscriptions but changed one to crowns because of the overall cost. By purchasing an area with crowns that area remains open to the account forever. So there is a one time cost for the area with crowns and your six wizards have access to that area.

The subscription is an ongoing cost with benefits - access to the whole game (depending on level) from the start, along with PvP and Pet Derby, and the ability to post on this forum.

I now have five accounts that are funded by crowns (I just can't delete my Legendary Wizards) and only one subscription (yearly). All of these accounts are under the Family Account, so that I am able to move transferable crowns among the various accounts as needed.

its definetly better to pay by crowns if you add it up over time.

If I did the math right... it is almost 70000 in crowns to buy the whole world....

Thanks for all the replies!

What it looks like to me is this - unlocking the whole game would cost my son and I about 140,000 crowns. That would be $150 - $180 depending on how much we PvP.

I pay around $14 a month for our two accounts for subscription. So the question really comes down to - will we be playing the game in 10-13 months. If the answer is yes, than crowns are the way to go. If no, than subscription. :-) That's not an easy question.

Being an ex-World of Warcraft player, I think I will go with subscription. Its a model I am used to, and allows my son and I to get burned out on the game with only incremental costs. With that cheery thought - off to level my Death Wizard! :D
