How do you change the view distance?

I would like to be able to increase my view distance so I can see people farther away and see the npcs farther. Could someone please help me with this?

I don't know of another perspective besides the default. You can hold the mouse button and drag it around the screen, but when the button is released, the screen goes back to the default.

I have a mouse with the roller in the center of the mouse buttons. By rolling it back and forth I can pan in and out somewhat in game.
