Obsidian Chests...

How in the world do we open these things? I have been thinking of multiple possibilities, but still no result.

The obsidian chests are part of a quest in Dragonspyre. You can't open them until you get the quest.

You going to have to get the "story" quest to be able to open the chests. You can get this as your first quest when you enter Dragon Spyre Academy.

You get the quest from Ashley in the Dragonspyre Academy to find the missing pieces of a certain Dragon Rider staff which were/are hidden in these obsidian chests throughout the spiral.
