Who’s That Girl?

February is always a fun month in Wizard101 thanks to our fabulous Friendship Festival, but more than that, we have a couple surprises up our wizard sleeves that we think you’ll enjoy. Valentina HeartSong will be back before the middle of the month, more Member Benefits are headed your way, and other fun February surprises.

January was a pretty great month as well! In case you missed what happened in January, you could always come watch our Wizard101 News segment from KI Live (Starting at the 23 minute and 30 second mark), but if you don’t have time for that, here’s a quick summary:

  • We had a handful of new sales including the ever popular Super Crowns Sale.
  • Our Yuletide celebration wrapped up on January 7th.
  • We released the Alphoi Hoard Pack.
  • The Majestic Bundle came back for a Throw Back Thursday.
  • The Cuckoo Clock Gauntlet Bundle replaced the Grand Tourney Gauntlet Bundle in the online store.
  • Pack-a-Palooza returned.
  • We had a month of Member Benefit weekends. Pretty awesome!

Zone of the Month: Savarstaad Pass

Hello Spiral Travelers! Isn’t it great to re-visit old zones you may have forgotten about in the past? This month’s “Zone of the Month” officially came to the Spiral back in July 2009 and changed the landscape of Wizard101 forever. Read on for a closer look at Savarstaad Pass and keep in mind that we will be discounting this area until 15 February to celebrate its existence--enjoy!

Name: Savarstaad Pass

Location: Savarstaad Pass is one of the first few zones you’ll encounter in Grizzleheim. In fact, the first quest you receive from Bjorn IronClaws in NorthGuard will point your quest arrow right to Savarstaad Pass. In case you get lost somewhere in between or just want to head back to visit this month:

1- Take a right at the fork in the road.

2- Walk past Snorri OysterBloom and Monstrologist Burke.

3- Go over the bridge guarded by the Huskarl.

4- Take another right on the road and you’re there!

Description: Savarstaad pass has four distinct areas: the main camp, the Boar's Camp, Draugarth, and the Webwood. For the most part, Savarstaad pass is a lush green forest full of adventure. Things get a bit scary around the Webwood where the colors turn a bit more sickly green. Be sure you watch out for the barbarian Boars and greedy Grendels, but if you stick to the main path, it’s quite a lovely stroll!

Cost: Both the town of Northguard and Savarstaad Pass are included in the Premium area for 1995 Crowns, but because this is our Zone of the Month, we’re discounting this area to 1500 Crowns until the 15th of February! Time to check out this side quest world if you haven’t already!

Zeke Item? Two of the Yardbirds can be found in Savarstaad Pass. One’s hiding near the fallen, hollowed out spider log in Webwood and the other is behind a tent in the Boar Camp. (See pictures for hints)

Chests: There are five distinct spots in Savarstaad Pass where you can find wooden chests, but it tends to be a bit random when they’ll appear...let us start you off with a hint: Check near the fork in the road by Draugarth. (See pictures for hints)

Secrets: Near the entrance and in the water near the main camp, the housing item “Bear-Prowed Rowboat” can be found, just make sure you dip your toes a bit into the water and you’ll soon get the prompt to pick up the rowboat for absolutely free! (See pictures for a hint.)

Also to note, there are TONS of encrypted messages around Savarstaad Pass. A simple Google search can find where players have uncovered what’s written here, but sometimes these mysteries are more fun to solve by yourself—are you up to the challenge? (See pictures for an example)

Reagents: Calling all crafters! Get your Mistwood, Deep Mushrooms, Ore, and Cat-tails here!

Fishing: That’s a big YES! Grizzleheim is great for fishing, and in Savarstaad Pass you can catch all kinds of great fish right by the main camp! There’s a Bone Fish, a Boar Fish, and even an Ol’ Boot among the several kinds of fish you can catch! Give it a shot and see what you fish up.

Teleporters: Another big Yes! In fact the teleport stones found in Grizzleheim were the first ever in Wizard101. They were so helpful here that they eventually made their way to many other worlds in Wizard101. The teleporter stones are going to be your best friends for getting you around here because this zone is HUGE.

What’s the 4-1-1? Picture this...Merle Ambrose has sent you to Grizzleheim on a diplomatic mission, but to talk to the King, you’re going to have to go through Bjorn IronClaws. Not to worry, he’s not a boss, he’s a potential ally! Bjorn sets you on your path to join his “band” by asking you to talk to his main bear, Hagen ShieldBreaker, in the main camp of Savarstaad Pass.

Hagen sends you to the old burial grounds of Savarstaad Pass to test your courage and gain the approval of the ancestors. After you do these tasks, Hagen sets out to help you polish that heroic reputation you’re seeking by dispersing the nearby hooligan Splithoof Barbarians and rescuing the local blacksmith from their jail cells. What’s a rescued blacksmith without a special quest to build an awesome blade?!

All Einar ThunderHammer needs are his tools, a lost recipe from a ghost ancestor, some Peet, some spider Ichor, and the stinger of a particularly nasty spider named Skathi. Einar takes these items and crafts what he calls “The finest weapon I have yet forged.” BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! What’s a spider-bane blade without it being “thrice-blessed” by a Water Elemental, a Fire Elemental, and a Treant?!

Einar declares the weapon fit for a king and sends you back to Hagen ShieldBreaker. With this, Hagen sends you on your final quests to thin the Grendel herds, to defeat a powerful Grendel Shaman, and finally to knock down the door to Draugarth Fort. Inside the fort you take down Skellek, the Grendel Boss, thanks to the power of your new thrice-blessed, spider-bane blade.

Hagen gushes at how you’ve fulfilled every lesson he’s given you and sends you back to Bjorn IronClaws with assurance that he’d be honored to have you in the band. Unfortunately it’s not quite enough yet to see the King of Grizzlehiem ...

Who’s that Boss? If you’re looking to take down a slew of bosses, Savarstaad Pass has almost more bosses to farm than regular creatures to fight! One thing is for sure, whether it’s bosses or your run of the mill Splithoof Barbarians, Savarstaad pass is a great place to find those Couch Potato Seeds that everyone loves!

Don’t miss this Side Quest! Once you’ve got your quest to venture into Savarstaad Pass, make sure to pay Hugin FateSeer a visit as he will send you on a quest to collect Mandrake, gather the Wings of a Dark Spirit, Bark of the Gloomwood tree, and a Talon from a Grendel. These components help Hugin craft a potion that allows him to see your fate. You’ll also get a pretty cool Grizzleheim Shield wall hanging for your house as well!

Our Screenshot of the Month this month goes to Alura SpiritBlossom who created a fantastic world of fish by using a giant fish tank collection and Castle Magic in her Celestial Observatory. Mia added, “This is a painting done of my fire wizard, Mavis, from Empyrea! It took some time to tweak and render out a few things. However, I'm happy with how she turned out. I hope y'all enjoy! :)” We do indeed! Thank you again for submitting your fan art to us.

After the end of 2017, Adventures of the Spiral and Duelist101 took a look back at the many updates and events that happened throughout the year.

Wizards have made amazing creations with castle magic including the two that Blaze LifeHammer featured with a part one and part two video series.

James EarthWalker wrote an intriguing Wizard101 story on Duelist101, Spiraling into Shadow.

Vanessa MythDust shared what NPCs would say if they were honest and transparent.

There are many wands that wizards can choose from, but Duelist101 has selected those that they found are the best.

With the release of the Alphoi Hoard Pack, many wizards were happy to check out what was new:
