The Phoenix King: The Darkness Me and Amy walked into the school, frightened as if it were our last moment as wizards. As we walked in, a man with a hunched back stared at Amy and I. The students looked at us as the man was too. One student was too busy staring at another with fire blazing in his eyes. Amy and I stood there, nervous. Every student except the one, had all evil looking eyes, on Me and Amy. All of the sudden, someone's voice was talking to me inside of my mind. I was quite questioned why a voice is inside of me. The man quickly shot his eyes to a boy wearing a dark black, demonic cloak. He crippled his hand into a beasts claw, and the boy who was wearing the demonic cloak, was transformed into a weasel. Everyone casted their eyes quickly over to the transformed boy, and started to laugh. The weasel / boy ran scurried out the door, squeaking. Amy and I laughed so hard, we could've stopped breathing! All the sudden, the hunched man spoke, "Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Dworgyn the Death School Assistant."
Greetings, Dworgyn!
Hello, Dworgyn. Said I and Amy with pleasure. Dworgyn chuckled with a crooked smile, and a twitching eye. Amy and I both looked at each other nervously.
Please, have a seat. said Dworgyn happily with a grin on his face. Amy and I both chose a desk without spiders, and potions set on the surface of them.
Class, we have two new students with us today and they are, Amy MythSword, and Kevin. announced Dworgyn to the class.
And Kevin, that boy who was Mind Speaking to you, I will personally teach you that technique today after class. said Dworgyn. I shook my head up and down. Amy chuckled and was shaking her head. Dworgyn hovered his hand over the chalk, making it float.
Today class, we will be learning the Wraith. said Dworgyn grinning as the chalk wrote it on the board. Dworgyn pulled out his wand from his sheath, waving it in the air and shooting the tip of his wand to the floor. A circle containing a skull flared black light in the shape of it into the classroom. All the students piered over the side of their desks looking at the light. The black light started to flare insanely. A Wraith rising from upon the light with a showering black mist falling down gently. I squinted my eyes at the Wraith to get a closer view, and as I stared into it's eyes, they dimmed a dead yellow. It glared at a student, raising it's bones for hands pulling the student's soul away. Dworgyn shouted, "I command you to halt your doing, now!".
Save me someone! cried the boy's weeping soul.
Dworgyn ran to the front of the Wraith as fast as he could before the Wraith could take the boy. Dworgyn pushed his thumb on the Wraith's forehead, and another thumb on it's chest area. Dworgyn shut his eyes, and the Wraith stopped pulling. I was watching, hoping I could learn something. Dworgyn's head cast up, litting his mouth, eyes shooting a black dark beam into the ceiling. The Wraith screeched noisily, like millions of dead and lost souls. The dark beams stopped flaring into the ceiling. Everything grew silent, until the Wraith shattered into ashes.
I guess we aren't learning Wraith today are we? I asked sheepishly.
Dworgyn sir, what was all that dark magic for? asked Amy.
Dworgyn was stunned.
I wouldn't say, young wizards. said Dworgyn, sweating.
All the other students asked the same thing over and over again.
Okay, young wizards. I'll say, but only if you keep it in this class. said Dworgyn sternly.
All the students and I shook our heads up and down, agreeing to Dworgyn's statement.
It's a special element where you can get in touch with the Phoenix King and take away their bending, and magic. But it's something a young wizard should NOT know. once again Dworgyn stated sternly.
Well anyway Kevin, let's try that technique I said before, shall we? said Dworgyn grinning.
But it...
But what, young wizard? said Dworgyn.
But it's not the end of class yet. I said.
Dworgyn point his finger at the clock and made it speed up to the end of class.
Now it is. said Dworgyn with a mental smile on his face.
I sat in my seat while the other students walked out, in misery.
Young wizard, I am about to teach you the most dangerous technique that Malistaire has ever created. said Dworgyn nervously.
You must concentrate on their eyes, and speak in your mind, but if you say something deadly in your mind, you could kill that person. said Dworgyn.
I started to pick up an empty mind and glaring in Dworgyn's eyes.
Can you hear me sir? I thought in my mind.
You picked up already, young wizard?! thought Dworgyn stunned back to me.
As we were communicating through thoughts, the whole area of Nightside started to rumble heavily. Dworgyn and I ran outside as quick as we could and as we got there, a black cloud descended upon the ground, and came out Draconians. The Draconians shot black meteors at Dworgyn and I. Dworgyn was hit by the meteor, falling down in pain paralyzed. Then Malistaire descended onto the black cloud, clapping his hands amusingly.
Splendid little act my children. sneered Malistaire.
I glared into Malistaire's eyes, reading thoughts. His thoughts gave me valuable information to where Dworgyn and I were going.
Now to take these wretched fools to the Zarkanican Chamber of Chains. me reading Malistaire's thoughts.
Take these foul fools to the Lair, my children. sneered Malistaire angrily.
Two Draconians picked us up by the back of our necks. They both jumped onto the cloud with Malistaire, and took off. Ambrose and a few students, ran into Nightside and searched through the whole Death School. Ambrose held his head in shame.
He's taken them, Dworgyn and Kevin have been taken away.

The Shadow Hunter It's hard to remember. No, it's painful. After all I've been through I don't know where to start or what to tell you. So I'll start by telling you about myself and my family. My name is Blaze DragonSword. My earth name was Blake. I've got a younger brother, Nate and of course, my dad, Nick. So now that you know all that I might as well start from the beginning. I'm pretty athletic so I took a walk for some exercise. I was walking back to my house, my breaths coming in clouds in front of my face. I walked into the driveway entering my house. "Blake come quick!" yelled my brother from upstairs. I ran up the stairs, skipping two stairs at a time until I hit the floor upstairs. My house is pretty big so I pumped my legs and arms as hard as I could. " Where are you Nate!" I yelled. I listened intently but there was no answer. I went room from room checked and calling out his name. I was checking his room when I saw him. "Are you.." I started to say before seeing him laugh out loud and chant "You fell for it, you fell for it." while holding his chest. I stormed out and flew down the stairs heading for the door. I was reaching for the handle when I was hit in the face by the door. My vision blurred and I saw stars and lines everywhere I looked. The last thing I saw before I blacked was dad standing over me.
I woke up with dad over me. I put my hand on my forehead and felt a wet cloth rolled up and placed on my forehead. Then dad looked around and called for Nate. He motioned for him to come here then sat me up. "Listen. This has to be now. I have to tell you now. You two are wizards." I was shocked. I just sat there and stared at him with my mouth open. Then someone burst through the door. He was floating. Yes, floating. "There's no time. You must consult the Book. Take the test." He said handing it to me. I nodded and opened to the first page. After the test I waited for a little bit before a dragon head popped out and blew fire over the wall. I stared in disbelief as he burned the word fire in the wall. I quickly closed the book and handed it to Nate. "Fire. It should suit you." said the old man. Then he handed me a robe and hat. They were black robes with red markings and spirals all over them. I ran to a bathroom and quickly dressed. I checked the mirror. " I look like a geek." I mumbled. I then hurried back to dad and Ambrose, the old man. Nate was already dressed in a purple robe with yellow markings on it. Then Ambrose motioned for me to come with him through a swirling vortex of flashing colors. He helped Nate through. I turned to dad. "Bye dad. I love you." I said. " Bye Blake." he said. Then I headed out through the vortex. It felt like all the life was being sucked out of me. Then I was me again. Living. Breathing. Alive.
"Where are we?" I asked Ambrose. "Wizard City of course." he replied. Then he led me and Nate to his office. He quickly shooed us through to a room with a 3-D map of a universe in the middle of the room. "I only have a few minutes. Head to Ravenwood and meet all the teachers. And take these." he said handing us dragon eggs. Then got out a book. We got our wizard names. I got Blaze DragonSword and Nate became Wolf StormShadow. We were heading out the door when Ambrose stopped me and handed me a pure black sword with golden writing on it. "Protect it." he said then disappeared. I was heading out the door when I bumped into a pretty girl with long dark hair and dark eyes." Hi. I'm Hannah Lionrider." she said. I stuck out my and said "I'm Blaze DragonSword." "Hey do you need help getting around? I'll show you RavenWood I you want." she asked. "Sure. I said grabbing my brother. As we headed to RavenWood a large and strong looking boy stopped me. "Pay up or else." he said. "No chance." I told him. He drew a long sword and pointed at my neck. I grabbed my sword and the fight began.

The Lightning Rune (part 2) Thirteen Years Ago
Soft light glows from the sputtering fire, flooding the small room. A tall woman in her late 70’s is slowly rocking in her favorite chair. The contents of a huge black bag are strewn across her feet. An overwhelming smell of herbs and spices are soaking up the air.
Her name is Alyssa Shadowflame. She is soon to die. But she won’t let herself slip away just yet. No, this old lady has things to do.
Behind the battered rocking chair is a rack of frothing, bubbling, simmering vials of potion. Each one has a label on the stopper, but Alyssa knows them all by heart.
Gingerly, cautiously, she lifts the largest bottle out of its iron holder. If she squeezes it a fraction too hard, it could shatter. And that is the last thing she needs.
She sets the potion down on a table next to her. She’ll take care of that later. Now she has a much more important job to do.
Across from the fireplace, in an iron crib, is a baby. Her granddaughter. The only hope left.
Alyssa draws her wand. Pointing it at the smiling, wriggling baby, she begins to mutter in a songlike voice. She is protecting the baby from others’ harm. But the person that could end up killing her granddaughter is her granddaughter herself. Alyssa will not allow what happened to her grandson to happen to her.
A few minutes later, the spell is complete. The baby girl’s magical talent is locked within her forever. Unless she somehow manages to track down the Lightning Rune, she won’t be able to cast any kind of spell.
Alyssa needs to ensure this doesn’t happen. Without hesitation, she takes a small sip of the potion. She focuses on an image of a fierce, loyal animal. The ground broadens and the sky stretches up, quivering through her eyes. A shiver crawls up her spine as she watches her body transform. Her hands shrivel up into her torso until her arms are only a few inches long. She looks down and sees that her feet have spiny claws on the ends. When she turns around, she realizes that she has grown a massive tail.
Alyssa finds it hard to control her thoughts. Her mind drifts away from the important job of protecting her granddaughter to immense stabs of hunger. The words magic, Julia, and rune tumble around aimlessly in her mind, but her yearning for food overcomes them. Her last human thought was that she may have drank too much of the potion.
And then she knew no more.
I wake up surrounded in whiteness.
“Julia?” It’s Alura’s voice, but she sounds like she’s underwater. “Julia, wake up!”
“What happened?” I mumble, sitting up in a bed I’d never seen before. “Where am I?”
“Julia!” Alura rushes over to me, the worried look on her face vanishing. “You’re alive!” She grins and thrusts a bubbling vial in front of my face. “Drink this.”
I look at it skeptically. “But it’s...moving!” I protest. “I’m not drinking that!”
Alura rolls her bright green eyes. “Oh, come on! It’s a healing potion. I got it from Dworgyn... and trust me; I never go to him unless it’s important.”
“Dworgyn?” I ask, confused. “Who’s that?”
“The Death professor,” Alura explains, saying the word “Death” with obvious distaste. “Now drink it!”
I stare into the vial for a few seconds before lifting it to my mouth. It couldn’t be that bad, could it?
I hear a loud crash from behind me and turn around slowly. To my surprise, a panicked-looking boy is standing in the doorway, looking like he’d stuck a fork in the toaster- unruly black hair sticking up every which way and wild eyes. “STOP!” he shouts.
“Sierra’s vase!” wails Alura, kneeling on the ground at the boy’s feet. She picks up a large piece. “Logan, you broke it! She’s gonna kill me!”
Oh. So that’s where the crash came from.
Logan looks down. “Oh...sorry bout that. Anyways, Dworgyn gave you a healing potion, right?”
Alura nods slowly and goes back to cleaning up the shattered vase.
“Well, turns out it wasn’t a healing potion,” he continues. “It was a special mixture for polishing wand stones!”
I drop the vial.
“I told you it looked weird,” I say to Alura. She winces.
Logan looks at me and realizes I’d been holding the potion. “Holy Heckhound.. you didn’t drink that, did you?”
I shake my head. “No, but I was about to. Good thing you showed up!”
“Bad thing you broke my vase,” grumbles Alura. ”I’m gonna go get a bag to put it in before Sierra finds it.” She leaves the room in a huff.
Awkward silence settles in.
“So...” says Logan. “Are you new here? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
“Well, I’m not really a student... I mean, I was about to go enroll in the Fire school, but there were... complications.” Nice job explaining, Julia.
“Oh,” Logan says. “Well, maybe you should pick Death as your secondary school. It’s pretty cool.” Another awkward silence.
“Uh, my name’s Logan Ghosthunter. What’s yours?”
“Julia Shadowflame,” I say, looking around the room. I’m positive I’ve never seen it before.
“Shadowflame?” Logan asks, his dark eyes wide in surprise. “As in, Sestiva Shadowflame?”
“Yeah, she’s my great aunt,” I say, frowning. “Why?”
“She’s, like, the most famous wizard ever! That’s so cool that you’re related to her! Has she taught you a lot?”
Now I’m genuinely confused. “Great Aunt Sestiva hates magic! My whole family hates magic! I’m not even allowed to use it!”
Logan gapes at me. “You’re related to Sestiva Shadowflame and you’ve never used magic?”
The door swings open noisily before I can ask Logan any more questions. Alura enters the room holding a burlap sack and a battered broom. She glares at Logan. “Help me clean this up!”
Logan sighs and takes the broom from Alura. They quickly scoop the remains of the vase into the sack, and Alura shoves it under the bed. “If Sierra finds this, I’m so dead.”
“Um... who is Sierra, anyway?” I ask. “And where am I?”
“Sierra Griffinthorn is my roommate,” Alura explains. “And you’re in my dorm room.”
Oh.
“And I’m not really allowed to be in here,” mutters Logan, taking a sudden fascination with the floor. “Uh, I gotta go. See you guys around.”
“Bye,” I say, watching Alura grab her wand out of the corner of my eye. “I’ll see you in class- if I chose Death as my secondary.”
Logan smiles. “You should. It’s really-“
“Leave!” hisses Alura. She prods his back with her wand. “Now!”
“Uh, okay,” he says, confused. “Bye...”
As soon as he’s out the door, Alura slams the door shut and glares at me warningly. “Julia Shadowflame, don’t you even consider taking Death as your secondary. And don’t listen to anything that... that Ghosthunter says.”
I frown. “He seemed fine to me!”
Alura sighs. “My family has hated the Ghosthunters since, like, five hundred years ago. My great-great-great-great-great-great—“Alura pauses. “Well, you get the point. Anyways, a few of Logan’s ancestors kidnapped him, drained his magic, and made him fight a bunch of high-level monsters- and, well, it wasn’t pretty.” She shrugs. “My family holds grudges.”
“No kidding,” I mutter. “So what secondary school should I take, then? What’s your school?” I thought it was funny that I’d never asked her what type of wizard she was.
“I’m Balance, secondary Life,” she says. “But I don’t think that would fit you. Maybe you should take Storm as your secondary.”
Part of me still wanted to take Death, but I decided I’d give Storm a try. “Yeah,” I agree. “Sounds fun.”
“And here’s the Fire school.”
I gasp. Braziers of blazing orange flames, on either side of a large tree with fire for leaves, glow intensely to the right of the school. The building itself is decorated with orange and red blazes, and the hole area is tinted in fiery shades. As soon as I see it, I feel right at home.
“Well, that concludes our tour. Enjoy your first day!” says Alura in a mock-tour guide voice. I laugh as she pretends to adjust a headset. She smiles. “I gotta go,” she says. “See you later!”
Still staring at the school, I bid her farewell and, taking a deep breath, step inside.
I’m surprised to see Logan sitting in the front. He waves at me. “Fire’s my secondary.”
I start to reply, but then I realize that the entire class is staring at me. I quickly slide into an empty desk next to him.
I feel a gust of wind as the wide wooden door swings open. Turning around, I see a woman with flaming orange hair and a long, somewhat squid-like dress enter the school. “That’s Professor Falmea,” Logan whispers. “The Fire teacher.” I nod; I recognize her from Merle’s tower.
“Good morning, students,” she says brightly. “Please take your seats. We will begin our lessons shortly, but before we start, I’d like to introduce our newest student.” She smiles down at me. “Julia?”
I stand up, tripping over my chair. “Uh, hi,” I say. “I’m Julia Shadowflame. I’m, uh, new here.” Like they didn’t already know that.
I hear a few snickers and sit back down, blushing. The professor frowns at a few students sitting in the back of the room, but doesn’t say anything.
“Today we will be focusing on damage over time spells. Can anyone name one?”
One of the snickering boys raises his hand. “Fire Dragon,” he announces smugly.
Professor Falmea frowns. “Yes, Duncan, but that’s far beyond your level. You won’t be learning that for quite sometime.” Now it’s my turn to snicker. “Anyone else?” the professor asks.
Logan raises his hand. “Heckhound,” he offers. The professor smiles. “Very good, Logan. Can anyone give me the details of that spell?”
A short girl with wild blue hair starts talking. “It’s a Fire only spell that Fire students receive at level 18. It does 120 damage per pip over 3 rounds, and it has an accuracy of 75%.”
Wait... Fire School only?
I tap Logan on his shoulder. “How do you know that if you’re Death?”
Looking uncomfortable, he coughs. “Hold on- I think the professor is about to tell us something.”
“Correct. Now, please divide into your level groups,”” she instructs. “Nicole will be with levels one through ten; Blaze, you take eleven through twenty; Sierra, twenty-one to thirty; Mason, thirty-one to forty; and Jenna, forty-one to fifty.”
“How do I know what level I am?” I whisper to Logan. “The professor wil test you,” he replies.”
“Julia, you come with me,” Professor Falmea says, motioning towards me. Logan mouths ‘good luck’ and I follow the professor out the doors.
“I’m very glad you decided to come, Julia,” says the professor as she briskly walks past the Ice school. “Follow me; we’re going to test your powers.”
She leads me out of Ravenwood and into the Commons. It’s still in very bad shape, but I notice a few people on ladders working to repair it.
“It’s terrible, what happened,” she says sadly. “The headmaster is so weak, and no one can identify the cause.””
“It’s my fault Christopher got away,” I mutter darkly. “I could have stopped him, I almost did.”
“It’s not your fault, Julia,” Professor Falmea says gently. “Don’t dwell on the past. It’ll just drive you insane.” She pauses. “You did the best you could.” She stops in front of a locked wrought iron gate and grabs her wand out of her pocket. It almost looks like mine, but it has thin red stripes winding up the sides and a fiery orange gemstone at the top. She points her wand at the gate, and in an instant flame shoots out of the end and into the lock, which opens smoothly. She leads me inside and announces, “This is Golem Court.”
The small area is dominated by a massive stone tower smack in the middle. Wizards are scurrying in and out of the building like bees to a hive. Before I can ask what exactly it is, the professor leads me around the side and stops in front of a cave secured by a rusty gate. “This,” she announces, “is Dragon’s Mouth Cave.”
“Uh...okay,” I say, frowning. “So what exactly are we doing here?”
The professor just smiles. “You’ll see. She points her wand at the gate, and in a flash of orange light, the lock splits in half and the gate swings open. She strides into the cave, and I follow, looking around me.
Veins of lava course through the dark stone floor, lighting up the entire cavern. Small pebbles of black rock are strewn across the ground. In the middle of the cave, a pile of rubble is heaped on top what I at first think is a stone pedestal, but watching it more closely, I see infrequent geysers of lava spurting between the rock, and realize it must be trapped under the rubbage.
I turn to Professor Falmea, who looks stricken. She staggers over to the basin and runs her hand along the fiery rock. She closes her eyes and brushes her surprisingly un-singed hands across the wreckage, but nothing happens. When she opens her eyes, they are clouded with intense worry.
“What’s wrong?” I ask. She sighs and steps back from the basin. “This Christopher is much more powerful than any of us realized,” she murmured. “I should be able to restore the cave, but the counter-magic is too strong, even though I am the Fire professor.” She pauses. “What exactly do you know about him?”
I snort. “He’s evil, cruel, has no heart-“
“I meant, about his life, his past, his family... anything could be helpful for us.”
I feel my throat closing up. His family. “Well... Gamma delivered a package to me about a week ago. In it was a spellbook. The Shadowflame family spellbook.” I gulp. “Christopher’s name was written on the front cover.”
The professor frowns. “And you knew of this?”
I shake my head. “I had no idea. I’d ask my mom about it, but she’s away.”
“Away?” she asks. “Away where?”
“Well, my mom and my Great Aunt Sestiva went to the Krokosphinx to get me some salve- I guess because of the whole explosion thing.”
“Julia,” she says gently, “The Spiral Door has been locked for two weeks, since the day you released the magic- less than an hour later, actually. They couldn’t have gone to the Krokosphinx.”
I feel a cold chill run up my spine. “Wha-what do you mean?” I ask tightly.
“The Headmaster sealed the portal for safety reasons,” she explains. “Nobody gets in, and nobody gets out. It’s been that way for a while.”
Suddenly it all makes sense. My mom would never just go off to the Krokosphinx without letting me know face-to-face, and Great Aunt Sestiva would have refused to go with her. And even if she agreed, they would have asked someone to watch me. This meant only one thing.
“Christopher.” I pound my fists against the rock as my voice escalates from a dark mutter to a raging shout. “Christopher kidnapped them!” Still striking the wall, I feel hot tears well up in my eyes. “That- that-” My voice breaks and I start sobbing uncontrollably. When I finally stop and pull back from the wall, my knuckles are bleeding.
And the professor isn’t there.

A Fine Line
"Happy birthday to you!" Annabelle and Mali sang, setting down a homemade birthday cake on the table in front of me. The frosting was smeared and mashed, and the cake was leaning to one side, but I loved it anyway because Mali -my foster mom- made it for me. Anything she made tasted delicious, no matter how it looked. "Make a wish," Mali said. My older sister Annabelle leaned closer to watch. A candle flickered in front of me, and I closed my eyes and counted my blessings.
Annabelle: the best sister I could ask for. Mali: who decided to take both Annabelle and I in so we wouldn't have to part. Owl: our adorable family cat. Samitha, Manny, and Daniel, my foster siblings. Were there any more? I thought for a moment before I made my wish.
I wish to get away from here for a while, I thought, blowing on the candle and feeling the flame die. I loved what family I had, but I wanted to find something new.
"Yay!" everybody screamed, clapping and jumping and smiling and making my birthday worth far more than I needed. Mali pushed a bundle of clothing toward me and I unwrapped it. There was a knit blue sweater, a long striped nightshirt and a pair of fuzzy slippers, which I immediately plopped onto the floor. I tried putting my foot inside one, but I felt something hard.
I picked up the slipper and reached inside, pulling out a tiny wrapped package. I grinned - an extra present! - and opened it up. Wrapped around a piece of cardboard was a tarnished silver chain, delicate and thin, and a round pearlescent pendant dangled from it. I untangled the necklace from the cardboard and fastened it around my neck, smiling. "Thanks so much, everyone," I said, putting on my new sweater and folding the nightshirt up for later. "These are the best presents I could--"
Suddenly, the house started creaking. Dust snowed down from the tops of high shelves, encouraging Samitha to sneeze. The dining room light, the only one on in the whole house (to save electricity), flickered and went out. I could feel Manny huddle up next to me. Owl ticked my ankles with his warm fur and weaved through my legs, maybe to reassure me about the cold darkness. The light came on and Daniel screamed.
I got up from the table and whirled around to realize I was inches away from a very tall man, which made me step back and trip over Owl. I caught my balance against a startled Annabelle. The man's hair was jet-black and slicked back. His moustache was braided, and his staff, topped by a steel dragon, threatened me for some reason. Then, to my surprise, shy Daniel marched right between the man and I.
"Mister, you better get out of my house or I will get Owl to scratch your big wand!" Daniel said defiantly.
"Step aside, child, I need that one," the man replied, pointing at me. Daniel sped back into Mali's arms, terrified. I almost choked on air when he thrust his finger in my direction. "Wait, what? Why me?" I stammered. The man smiled and leaned closer. "Young one, you wished, just now, to get away for a while, didn't you?"
"Uh... yes, why?"
" My name is Malistaire Drake. I have taken it upon myself to grant your wish and bring you to Crowthorne Academy of Dark Arts, where I can teach you magic--to summon creatures, walk on air, and aid the Wizard Army. Will you come?"
I looked back at my family; all of them were shaking their heads 'no'. But I wanted so much to leave! To get away!
"I'll come," I said. Everyone's eyes widened. Malistaire smiled slyly. "Say the word and, we will depart. There will be no travel -- we will just be there, in an instant." I had nothing to lose, even if I had nothing to gain either. What was so wrong? I had been convinced, so I said 'Ok'.
In the blink of an eye, I was in an unfamiliar place. A huge, dark stone castle loomed above me. There were no leaves on the trees, and students somberly walked across the courtyards, keeping their eyes lowered. A girl with silver hair and a gray wool robe walked up. "This is Kristen BattleSword; she will be showing you to your dorm." Kristen looked tired and sad, her eyes full of negativity. "Hi," I said, trying to get her to cheer up. She said nothing. "No contact with other Wizards unless you're working on a project or playing ambassador for a new student, young one," Malistaire warned. "Kristen will tell you the rest." With that, the dark man vanished.
As soon as he was gone, Kristen inexplicably perked up; strangely, so did almost all the other students. "I am so glad he's gone! Rule number one, kid: do whatever you want when the boss ain't around, because none of the other teachers care as long as they make him happy. He usually stalks around in the teacher's lounge alone, so we'll only ever see him at assemblies and when new kids like you come. They gave me all your info: you're in Mr. SoulSinger's class, like me; he's the father of Ivan SoulSinger, who tortures goody-goody Ravenwood kids over in Dragonspyre. It's really fun when Ivan gets to the dorm parties, believe me. Anyway, let's start walking so I can get you to your dorm before transformations class." She started off towards a tower to the left of me and I swiftly followed. "So what's your first name?" she asked.
"Uh, it's Emily." I looked down, heavy-hearted; the gloomy atmosphere really had an emotional effect. Kristen pulled a pen and paper out of a pocket in her robe. "This is a list of name parts," she said. "Pick one from each list that you feel the most emotionally attached to."
I looked through the lists. The first one had a lot of deathlike words, such as 'Shade' or 'Skull', and I skimmed over each one. The word 'Moon' caught my eye, for some reason. Then I looked at the other list. The same scenario happened with the word 'Thorn'. "'Moon' and 'thorn'," I told Kristen, who took the paper back and wrote the words down. "Emily MoonThorn. Has a nice ring to it, huh?" She grinned. "Now there are seven pathways which you can take: Balance, Fire, Ice, Storm, Myth, Life, and Death. Those are magic schools you can choose. Pick wisely. Mostly everyone here is Death, because that used to be the only school available to us. But then they got rid of that law, so I'm storm. What are you picking?" she inquired. "I think I want to be Fire," I said. Kristen smiled. "Good pick." She muttered 'Pyromancy' as she scribbled on the paper. "Alright, here's the key to your dorm," she said, handing me a metal slab with a code engraved on it. "You're dorm number 485. Remember, I'm a floor above you, in dorm 587, so if you need anything just knock, okay?"
"Okay," I said, realizing the sign above the door to the tower said GIRL'S DORM in big brass letters. As Kristen walked away, I thought back to earlier in the conversation:
...goody-goody Ravenwood kids? Maybe I'd ask a little later.

Storm Thief
“The sea’s greatest wrath is about to be crashing down upon you!” “You will pay for stealing the storm lord’s greatest treasure!”
“What I haven’t stole anything, I don’t know what the storm lords greatest treasure is.”
“You will pay blaze storm thief, you will payyy”
“What.” I woke up with a start. I was always dreaming up that quote. Sure that’s what the kraken had told me when I was level eight. But now I was a grandmaster diviner, theurgist, pryromancer, necromancer, conjurer, thaumature, and sorcerer and i was still having that quote in my dreams. Yeah Maybe my main school was storm and the kraken lived underwater but this was to confusing. I got dressed in blue and black armor with a shimmering neon green sword and headed to headmaster Ambrose and explained my problem.
“Hmm,” replied Ambrose, “what is your main school?”
“Storm,” I replied.
“And your last name is Storm Thief?”
“Yup,” I replied. He waved his wand In front of me and looked at the side of it.
“Seems to me your whole generation was storm, and mastered everything as well. Your family has a talent you seem to master everything quickly. He put his wand in his pocket.
“What does it have to do with the kraken?”
“I think it may be warning you, that the storm lord is coming to look for you. You might be in grave danger.
“Gee” I said. I thanked Ambrose for helping me and ran out of his office. Great I thought something is haunting me. There was only one person who could help me which was my snobbish cousin Moe. Moe was short for Mohammad but that’s wayy too long for me so I call him Moe. Moe thinks he is the best wizard ever. Even though I mastered every school in Ravenwood and he only mastered the school of fire. I ported out of the commons to dragonspyre. Moe said it was “paradise” for him which was always annoying but I knew what he meant I’m storm and I LOVE Triton Avenue because it’s well you know stormy. i found his castle and knocked on the door his castle was the fire castle which is on fire LITERALLY.
Finally he answered.
“Blaze if it isn’t my favorite cuz please comes in,” he said
“Cut the chat I only got a life that happens to be in um I don’t know … danger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Oh,” he said well, bye,” and he slammed the door in my face!
Oh my god you’re as selfish as a… whatever is selfish,” I yelled. I cast a kraken at the door and it fizzled that’s odd I tried again and again. Suddenly my armor felt heavy my sword lost its glow and smoke filled the air and the storm lord appeared with a bunch of people around him.
“Blaze Storm Thief your crime for stealing the storm sword is worthy of death but since that is too harsh I will drain your mana and you shall remain mortal forever!!!”
“Wait but I didn’t steal anything!”
“Don’t lie
“The headmaster and everyone you know is already educated about this anyway,” he replied. He said some words and a dark black whole sucked my mana right from me and trapped in the swirling circle for eternity I feinted and fell to the ground. I opened my eyes and I was in my cousin’s house.
“Moe,” I managed
“Uh hey cuz I saw you lying outside my doorstep and I brought you inside,” he said
“Oh,” I replied I decided not to tell him what really happened to me even though the storm lord said EVERYONE I knew already knew But I didn’t care I was determined to find out who stole the storm sword, clear my name, and get my powers back. I tried to port to my castle but remembered I wasn’t a wizard, man; this life is harder than I thought. I borrowed Moe’s broom and flew to my castle. When I arrived at my castle I saw ten men guarding my storm island house. They shoved a paper that said I am instructed to go back to earth since I wasn’t a wizard anymore it said that they will safely “escort” me home. I couldn’t believe this. I tried sneaking in my house but they were watching me so I had an idea I told them to give me a minute. I walked around my island and man was I was mad I was furious someone stole the storm lord’s sword and it was NOT me. Whoever did it framed me for a reason, but why? Now I was going to be kicked out the spiral forever. I glanced at Moe’s broom I was not going to be kicked out of my home. i Hopped on Moe’s broom and sped away if anybody was going to find this framer it was me. I flew to the headmaster’s house and told him what happened. The headmaster actually looked surprised when he saw me.
“Blaze why are you still here you have to leave,”
“Why Ambrose why, just because I’m not a wizard anymore and because I stole the storm lords greatest treasure,” I yelled. “Well guess what I did NOT steal his royal highness’s sword someone else did. And now my powers are gone because of what someone else committed and iam not leaving NOW!”
“Oh,” he replied “I see. I believe you,” he said calmly.
“You do,” I asked.
“Yes, and if you want to find out who did this I suggest you consult Bartley and torrent the storm tree,”
“So I should talk to them about this?”
“Yes, and while you’re at it could you please give this to torrent?”
“Sure but what is it?”
“It’s storm water in a bottle to keep him comfortable,”
“Yeah but it rains all over him,”
Yes, well, the storm lord got mad at you and since your main school is storm he tore it apart and it’s no longer storming over torrent,”
“Wow the lord really wants that sword,” I thanked Ambrose again and walked to the Ravenwood tunnel. I went to too torrent he seemed sadder and weaker than usual im poured the storm water in his roots and it started to rain again. I asked him, “Torrent what happened?” he looked up at me and replied.
“Young wizard he used to be my hero, he used to be my role model but know he’s a CROOK, HE YELLED. A tear rolled down his face. To be honest with you I didn’t really know trees could CRY. I tried to comfort him but I had my OWN problems. “Torrent,” i said, “do you know where the storm lord’s sword is,”
“Well I could tell you a riddle that could help,”
“A riddle, what riddle?” I asked.
“Apple is to orange as friend is to enemy; you will be fooled by what you see,”huh at first I had no clue and I still didn’t. I was going to ask him if he could simplify that but he disappeared. I looked for him but he was gone. I thought of his words and finally I gave up and headed on to Bartley. Bartley had both eyes now, after I recently defeated Malistaire. “Bartley,” I called
“Young wizard what is it?”
“Can you help me?” I asked.
“Anything for my favorite student,” he replied, “what is it,”
“I need to find the storm lords sword,”
“oh that, find your sister Allison she will help,” before anything could happen the guards who guarded my castle marched in Ravenwood all ten of them! The leader of them shouted.
“THERE HE IS, GET’EM BOYS,” I ran as fast as I could in Bartelby.i went to the world gate opened the door and ran into the wiz plane station. I ran to the enchanted airways and a lady asked me to show her my wizard ID I looked down but I didn’t see my wizard clothes instead I saw my regular human clothes on my wizard hat was only wizardly item on me. The lady asked for my wizard ID before I could answer I saw the guards marching in the terminal. Come on I thought I need a diversion what do girls like I thought then I got it.
“Hey look its Justin Beiber,” I yelled. That got her attention she looked away and I ran on the airplane and sat in the back row. I woke up hearing the airplane intercom.
“Ladies and gentlemen we have landed in Dragonspyre. i hid behind a crowd of people and got out of the plane. I walked in a broom store and walked to the clerk and asked him for the fastest broom he had. He handed me the broom and I saw the tag 100000 gold. I took off my hat and saw my pouch I gave him 100000 gold, took the broom, and left. I hopped on it and sped away. I arrived at Allison’s castle it was the life castle. Before I could ring the doorbell Allison opened the door and shoved me in.
“Allison your suffocating me,” I YELLED.
“shh,” she hushed.
“Why,” I said.
“No reason I just wanted you to shut up,”
“Can you help get the sword?”
“Duh isn’t that why Bartelby sent you.
“Yeah,”
“Ok we find the sword in the fire mill, its protected by dragons.”
Isn’t that by Moe’s castle?
“Yeah it is,”
“Ok let’s go,” I said anxiously.
“Hang on moron; you’re not a wizard anymore,”
“So?”
“So?” my sister mocked. “You need equipment, stupid,”
“Well if you’re so smart where do we get it?”
“Moe’s place,” a few minutes later we arrived at Moe’s place. We told him the story and he armed me up with some stuff after that we left. We went to the mill (which was RIGHT behind Moe’s house) the mill was broken down and was dark. Lava poured from it instead of water. The higher we crept up the hill the more I could see the dragons there were four of them. One red, blue, green, and orange. My sister and I split up. I drunk a potion and I shrunk and ran pass the four dragons then I saw a huge chest. I drank more of the potion and I was tiny as a germ. I saw a huge keyhole I climbed up and dove inside. And you’ll never believe what I saw a rubber sword. I took some teleportation dust that Moe gave me and teleported to Allison then I took some cake and took a huge bite of it and I started to grow. I told her what I saw. But before she could reply the dragons sensed us. They started moving towards me. Then smoke appeared and the storm lord stepped out of the smoke. All of a sudden Alison disappeared. I needed to defend myself then I remembered something Moe gave me a box. He said if I opened it something wonderful would happen to me. I took the box out and I had to tell you It was not wonderful. I was in my boxer shorts holding the sword. I gasped what did Moe give me? The storm lord was outraged he took lightning bolt slashed it in the ground. And seven creatures surrounded me a kraken, a fire elemental, ice colossus, a vampire, a Minotaur, treant, and a hundred. They attacked me at once.
“Aaah,” I screamed. I fell to the ground then all of a sudden I wasn’t naked I was in my armor with my neon green sword I tossed the storm lord his sword and he caught it. I defeated each of them in a single blast. They disappeared and Allison appeared. The storm lord looked approved he nodded and “Thank you,”
“Oh and one more thing,” I said, I whispered something in his ear and he chuckled. And disappeared.
“What’s so funny my sister,” demanded.
I sighed, “Let’s just say Moe is going to be powerless for ten years.” We started to laugh.

The Amber Heart Chapter 1: My Report Got Eaten By A Hydra
"Blaze?" My professor said, loud and clear. "Here." Blaze muttered as he dootled in his notebook. I sighed and drew a quick sketch of a fire cat with a bunch of hearts next to it. "Sahirah?" Professor Falmea said. "Yes?" I commented back as i finshed my drawing. She made her way over to me and glanced over my shoulder. "This is no time to make petty drawings Sahirah." She swiped the paper from my hands and slapped it on her desk then turned around and continued her lesson about the History of Majyk. When she turned around, i gave her dirty looks and stcuk my tongue out like a child(But hey, doesn't everyone do that?). Ravenwood wasn't as cracked up as i thought it would be, i mean, the majyk and stuff was awesome, but other then that, imma total nerd magnet. It's not that i'm not good looking(Cause, trust me, i am!), it's just that i attract NERDS. Ugh. I'm only a level 3, and i already suck at this school. Ambrose said i should go to the school of Fire because he said it would be 'good for me' and i 'had talent'. As if he hadn't said that to every other kid in this school! He just sweeps 'em away and plac es them into whichever class thats not full. Lazy bum! Professor Falmea cut off my inner chatter-box, "Class dismissed. I expect all of you to finish your report on the Titans by Wendsday." She swept across the room with her intense beauty. Her straberry blond hair went all the way to her hips in delicate and unique swirls and curves. She had high cheekbones and soft, brown eyes. Her body was like a perfect hourglass and her sleek dress stuck to her side like a koala to a tree. Kids started exiting and i flowed ith the crowd, out the door, and into Ravenwood. Bartleby's leaves shaded us from the hot summer sun. I looked up at the glittering leaves and admired how the sunshine came through the leaves. "Hey! Watch it noob." A shrill and girly voice shriked. I relized that she was yelling at me, and not to her imaginary friend(I'm not pointing fingers, but...) "I didn't touch you." I murmured. She grimaced at me and pulled her black hair behind her ear. Her face was pretty, but not like Falmea's. She was glaring at me with hard, cold, scarlet eyes. "You did too. Watch where your going next time. You little brat." Then she bookchecked me and pushed me down. I stumbled down with my books and sat there, staring up at her cruel face. A bunch of kids started laughing and i could feel my face and ears get awfully hot. The girl smirked and walked towards the dorms, taking the batch of followers with her. "Need a hand?" I heard a manly, yet gentle voice say as a hand popped outta no where. I looked up and saw a boy bout my age with black hair that was almost blue, and his eyes were a light shade of gray. He wore mostly black clothes, so i figured he was from the Death School. I took his hand and he helped me up effortlessly and HE started picking up MY books and papers. I felt my face get hot again, but not from embarrisment. He handed my stuff back to me then went over to the Professor's Desk. He picked up a slip of paper and handed it to me. It was my little firecat drawing. I beamed up at him and suddenly, like, outta no where, he said, "Whats your name, little miss?" I hesitated. I never really trust Death students, cause all they cause is trouble and chaos. "Sahirah Fierstien. You?" He also hesitated.(DE JA VU!) then said, "Blaze. Blaze Thunderblood at your service." He smiled lopsidedly and i smiled softly back. "Well, thanks for helping me." I said quickly and practically ran out the door. I ran through Ravenwood, through The Commons, and through Olde Town. I finally stopped at Firecat Alley and rested my back on a burned tree. I looked through my books for my report about the Titans and read through it so qucik i only caught a few words. I held it out in front of me like i just won the Nobel Peace Prize and suddenly, it wasn't in my hands. I looked up and saw the girl who bookchecked my earlier reading it. "Hey give it back you snake of a Grandmaster!" I practically yelled at her. She smiled and petted her pet Hydra, who was taller then her by a few feet. "Don't blow a gasket noob. And when is this due?" She asked. She gently fin gered it and answered her own question, "Oh yeah. Tomorrow! I'll just hold onto this for a while." Then she tossed my ten pages full of work into the air. "Hey!" i yelled, and tryed to get them from the air, but it was useless. Her Hydra gobbled them up as fast as a starved dog. I frowned as little pieces of paper floated to the ground like snow. The girl came over and smiled innocently when a passing teacher came by. "Hiya, My name's Carleigh Welsh, whats your name?" She said with such sickly sweetness it made me wanna gag myself with a spoon. (Or gag her with a spoon. or a knife.) When the teacher passed, her face hardened and she smirked at my neck. "Well well well. Look at what we have here!" Carleigh taunted as she grabbed my necklace. My mother gave it to me right before i left for school. She said it'd bring love and success to my life while i was there. (Well, look how THATS working!) It was an amber carved and chipped to look like a heart. i always wore it on summer days the the sun could make it gleam. I slapped Carleigh's hand away, but instead she took ahold of it tightly and kept beaming at the necklace. "Why thank you! I've always wanted an early Christmas." She said as she tried to tug it off(Unsuccessfully). I glared at her and, with my free hand, knocked her block off. She stumbled back a few paces, holding on to her bloodly nose and trying to keep it off her abnormaly pink clothes. I laughed and she turned her beady, scarlet eyes back to me. "You...You...(Enter a cuss word of your choice)! You, You just stay AWAY from Blaze. You got that!? Or i'll make sure Sierra will eat more then just paper!" She yelled and stumbled away from me, but her Hydra didn't follow. Or at least, not yet. I sighed and said, "What? What do you want?" Sierra growed with it's three heads. I knew from fact that a pet can't eat a Wizard, but i wasn't so sure bout that now. It lowered it's Storm head down to me and seemed as if it sniffed me. I could smell decay in it's breath, so yeppers, that fact was totally gone. She lowerd her ice head and bit my backpack and sung with around so hard that stuff started coming out and falling apart. The fire head was making this screaming type sound. It was horrible, but in a nice and seductive way. It sounded way to wrong. Might be a mating or attack scream. I instantly freaked and screamed then covered my ears(Cause i really thought about this). I continued screaming till i thought everything stopped. I opened my eyes and practically screamed at what i saw next(people gonna ask why my throat so sore). ALL of the Hyrdra's freaking heads were FIRE. All of them were red. Not blue! Not purple! RED! I freeaked out again and ran. I ran away from eveything, my backpack, my books, the Hydra, and other stuff. I heard it pounding after me and i took a sharp right, towards Olde Town. I heard it smash something and i looked over my shoulder or a glance. IT SMASHED A FREAKING BUILDING!!! I ran faster but i could feel myself running out of breath. Soon, i got to the saftey of the tunnel and jogged the rest of the way to Olde Town. I came at a stop by the Bazaar and sucked in huge breathes of air that i lost. Ok. Now i had a bigger problem then a rampaging, three fire headed, monster running amuck in Firecat Alley.
...
...What was i gonna tell professor Falmea about my essay!?...
Chapter 2:My Second School's My Oppisite
I quickly sat down in my desk and waited patiently for Professor Falmea to coming waltzing in with her unusual choice of clothes. Carleigh Welsh and her gang of followers were huddled together like a pack o penquins in a snowstorm. I heard snickering, giggles and snotty remarks, so instantly knew it was about me. I burried my head in my book(Marked; House of Night Series) and pretended like i was invisable. "Hey girl, what you doin' hi your pretty face in that book?" A guy said and pulled the book down. Black hair, grey eyes... Oh SHNANPS. It was Blaze. I heard everything go silent and i could feel Carleigh's lazer vison boring holes into my head. "Um. i was just...reading." I said, so Einstien-ish. He smiled and sat down right as Professor Falmea came in.
"Merry meet class!" She hollered as she draw a sketch on the chalkboard of a Fire Elf. (Lemme tell ya, Falmea ain't the artistic sort. It looked more like a deformed dog then an elf) "Merry meet" we echoed. She taught us about Elf Culture, Powers, and Majyk. After the 36 minute lesson, she announced, "Bring me an arrow from an Elf so we can start your Wakanda Potion, Before you head out the door, place your essays on the table next to it." She motioned to the small table with a tray placed on it for our papers. I held my breath. Carleigh's Hydra! Was it still running amuck in Firecat Alley?! If it was, a whole lotta kids where gonna be in some major trouble...
Carleigh went the extra mile or two to make sure she got right in front of me. (Ain't that just too sweet?) "Ladies first, noob." She retored and twitched on outta the room. "If she shakes her butt any harder, she'll break somethin." I muttered, then heard a deep voice behind me giggle. I looked over my shoulder and saw this girl who had brown hair, brown eyes, and was a head taller then 'moi'.
"Hey, good one!" she laughed and held out her hand formally, "I'm Alexia Rae, who are you?" she asked. I took her hand it shook it slightly, "I'm Sahirah." She waited me to say more but i didn't. (Uh, HELLLLOOOO! Stranger Danger, people!) She shrugged and let go, "If ya need anythin, just gimme a call, and i'll be there!" Then she left. I followed her out the door and went to the shopping district. 'Hmm. I haven't got any more clothes lately. i'll get some when i'm finished' i thought to myself as my eyes scanned the shoppes. I walked into Olde Town and everything seemed to fly by. I meandered all the way down to Firecat Alley and it pained me to have to walk up the hill when i was done. I stepped carefully into the hot 'n' humid Firecat Alley. I saw a hopping Elf jumping around like no body's buisness. I quickly ran after it and got into a battle. We circled off and i could feel it heating up(Literally). I casted a Firecat when he got into the middle and shot with with an arrow. Well that made me blow a gasket. I shot a few little fire explosions and hit him a couple of times. He hit me with a fire snake and a balance beetle. I could feel my health being sapped while i ever so slightly made a dent in him. I sucked in a deep breath and concentrated on a speel that would surely kill him. I Drew up my wand and focused. Soon, something white and blue swirled out from my wand.
I couldn't see it, but i would tell it wasn't fire. I suddenly felt freezing in the hot air and it felt like snow was falling. I noticed big chunks of ice were in front of me and soon after that, i heard a shreiking noise. i covered my ears and closed my eyes till it was over. Then i opened them and eveything was gone. But the Elf's lifeless body was still there. One thing i learned from Falmean, was that things don't actually DIE, they kinda faint. and wak up later and are back in biz. I quickly ran over to him, avoiding all the other Fire Elf's i could feel crowding around and snatched his arrow. It was a pretty little thing. Red arrow tip, golden body, and sharp points. I hurried over to the sidewalk so no other Elves could massacare me. I heard clapping behind me and i turned around. "Hi Ambrose" i mummbled as he came closer.
"You did well, Sahirah, i think you found your new school!"
I blinked in confusion. You could have more then one school? That was news to me. "What is it then?" I asked in utter confusion. "Ice" He laughed. i paused and waited for him to say "Hahah, sorry. Just kidding. One school per person. Get used to it." But he didn't. He kept that good-natured grin plastered on his face. "ICE!" I practically shriked at him. But i'm FIRE! I can't be Ice too!" I waved my hands in the air like a crazy person.(Don't do that around teachers, they think it's annoying. I do not consider Merle a teacher. Just an old man who found the school. Duh.) "Oh, but you can Miss Fierstien." He remarked and he poofed away, leaving a few clouds of black smoke behind. I sighed and stalked out of Firecat Alley, squezzing the arrow so hard i could almost hear it crack. i COULDN'T be Ice! Impossible! Not likely! Never! Utte-. i ran into someone and stopped my inner chatter. "Oh! Goddess, sorry!" i said as he turned around. "Fancy meeting you here." Blaze said. Ugh! How many times could you see a person? Was there a limit? "Hi." i commented back like the smartest person in the world. "I see you leveled up quite a bit." He murmured and pointed to my book that NOW said: Sahirah R. Fierstien-Journeyman Pyromancer-Level 16. I WAS JUST A LEVEL 4 TWO SECONDS AGO! Oh geezums. I felt myself blush. "Oh. wow." i murmured. He gave me that happy-go-lucky smile and laughed. "You just need to level up a wee bit more to match me!" He taunted in a funny and cute fashion. His showed me his book and it said: Blaze A. Thunderblood-Master Pyromancer-Level 36. THIS time i felt myself blush from embarrestment and something else. "And you should go to the Ice School, Ambrose enrolled you there, huh? Looks like your second is your oppisite." He laughed and walked off with his friends, talking about whatever boys tend to talk about. I grimaced and marched all the way to the Ice School. Great. As if my fire homework wasn't enough?!

Sherlock Bones Sherlock crossed off several names from his never ending list of criminals. He never had a break- for the young wizards had been vacationing for the past three months. They wouldn’t take a single minute of their day to help him sort papers, or stop an O’ Leary gang. Or so on…
He fiddled through a list of papers, paper after paper, and so on, and so on. Then, suddenly a strange wringing noise came from the back of the Police Force Headquarters. He could hear the moaning prisoners welcome a new guest.
For what Sherlock didn’t know was this new visitor wasn’t a simple O’leary. It was Ms.Clawn, the most devilish cat in the O’leary gang. As Sherlock opened his door slightly, he took notice to her long red tattered scarf- along with her black and white striped vest. Though, the Policemen were taking extra notice to her long claws. Both tied back by two large ropes, and double knotted.
“Ms.Clawn,” one of the men sniggered, “refrain from moving that claw. Or the first strike you’ll get is one to the extra controlled Marleybone Agency.” She smirked, for she knew she wasn’t in their hands. They were in her’s, she was the daredevil that was about to break free.
“Msssr, may I take a bathroom break?” she smiled, her eyes shivering with mortal fear to reflect the policemen’s.
“Go, but we’ll be guarding it,” they growled, running beside her and guarding the front of the ladies room. One of the female agents was sent in to make sure she wouldn’t play any tricks on the guards while they were outside.
“Thank you for your hospitality,” she smiled, and suddenly she revealed a sharp glass shard. The guard reached for it quickly, but before she could touch it. Clawn was gone.
“She’s gone!” the guards growled furiously, half the men were sent out on patrol, half to keep the HQ secure from intruders. Sherlock- who had returned to his office halfway through the conversation. Knew nothing of her absence, he studied more of his papers, but suddenly the door swung open.
“Why- why hello Mr.Barker!” He smiled vaguely, he didn’t like being took by surprise much, “do you need anything?” The stubby dog stomped in the room, his large blue suit bobbing up and down as he walked.
“Yes Mr.Bones! You, have to track down Ms.Clawn, before the dawn hour strikes. She must be already at it again Mr.Bones! We need her secure so she cant pull off anymore tricks Mr.Bones!” Barker called to him, in a very bad tempered mood.
“Yes, yes sir. Right on it!” Sherlock yelped, papers slipping from his hands onto the floor. As soon as he tidied up his office, he set out in his midnight carriage. He had ordered the driver to drive him up before midnight witch was quite ironic.
“Mr.Bones, are you sure you need to go up to the Secure house?” Frank called from the front of the carriage. He was brushing some dust off the horses back as he called them forward.
“I am sure, Mr.Barker insists I track her down before down and this is my only lead so far.” Sherlock continued to shake his head, lead, he didn’t have one lead on this double trickery gal. She was as sneaky as a rat, and as unnoticed as one to.
As they continued down the road, Sherlock noticed a few cats leaning against this one wall. One wall…
“Halt!” Bones called, and the horse’s suddenly jolted backwards. Sherlock jumped out of the carriage.
“Meet me back here at 1:00 am, if I am not here. Call for help, and tell them to lean on this tile.” Frank nodded, he was used to Sherlock’s deadline talk by now.
Sherlock advanced to the tiling across the long walls of Digmoore Station. He slid his shoulder along the tile- and as he expected. A sudden jolt drove him backwards. He was flipped into what seamed a bursting mass of crime.
Standing across the field of robbers, was Ms.Clawn. She was staring at Sherlock with a untrusted glare. He didn’t seam to notice him after that. Sherlock was no idiot, he had changed clothes to the regular criminal garb. He also used face chalk to appear as a white furred cat.
“You!” Ms.Clawn pointed at Sherlock, oh no.

The Tale of Alex MistFist One dark and stormy night…..
OK, this is how almost all good stories start out, so let’s mix it up a bit.
One beautiful Saturday morning, a baby boy was born in the early days of Wizard City. Loved by his parents, Kendra and Dylan, who had just become masters at the time; he was a mystery to all of the world, but his parents. One day while headmaster Ambrose was taking a walk, he heard crying from the life school. When he entered, he found Kendra, on the floor with a baby that was beginning to shine. It disappeared with a flash as Kendra madly waved he arms around, trying to stop it. Ambrose, still not knowing of the baby, blinks in surprise. Finally seeing Ambrose there, she jumps in surprise, and then starts to cry again. Seeing there is no way to avoid it, she finally confesses that she had a baby boy.
11 years later……
Hi, my name is Alex, no middle name, no last name. I’ve been an orphan ever since they found me in a fireplace, covered in soot. I’ve been called a freak, an oddball, strange, but most often, alien. All of those names are annoying, but they have their reasons. I always seem to cause fires. One day in the middle of December, a snowstorm started to envelope the town. The orphanage’s heater was broken, so we all almost froze. That is except for my best friend, Nick(Who never seemed to get cold). The fireplace, which was still full of wood, would have been our only source of heat, but we had no matches. That was when things got strange. I really wanted a fire, and suddenly, I smelled smoke. When I looked down, there was a roaring fire in the fireplace. Everyone in the room jumped in surprise.
It’s the middle of May now, and all these strange events with fire keep happening. As I walk toward the breakfast room with Nick, we see a flash in the lounge. Always being curious, Nick creeps toward the room and says to me four words. “Don’t make a sound”. We quietly open the door (It’s made of stainless steel now because of another trick fire), and see an old man, with what we called really out of style clothes or costumes, and an owl wearing glasses and a purple graduation hat. “Do you two happen to be Alex Mistfist and Nick Icerider?” said the owl. We both jumped in surprise and said “A talking owl, I’m really listening to a talking owl.” The old man looking completely unchanged, said “Now, Alex Mistfist” and he was cut off by Nick who said “no one here is named Alex Mistfist; there’s only an Alex, no last name.” Then Ambrose starts again “Let’s get this straight for you two. You (pointing towards me) are Alex Mistfist, and you (pointing towards Nick) are Nick Icerider.” “Wait, so we do have last names?” I blurted out “Yes, now can you picture fire on this piece of parchment in your head, and no questions.” He was still holding that ever still face of calmness. When I did so, I closed my eyes, and started to smell smoke again. I opened my eyes, and the paper was on fire.
We screamed, again, but still the old man acted normal. Then he asked Nick, or as I should say, Nick Icerider, “no you, think of this paper as a block of ice.” There was a sudden chill in the room as the flaming paper froze solid. “It seems you two pass the test.” “What? What test?” Nick said as he looked around the room “are there security cameras in here?” “No, you passed your wizardry test.” and before we asked a question, we heard a poof.

Songs of the Spiral (part 3) Jacqueline Nightsong slowly awoke. She only remembered a flash and then blackness from the previous day. Images of the symbol of death approaching her and then entering her chest, very painfully entering her chest, consumed her as she heard her name being called. “Jacqueline? Jacqueline? Jaaaaaaaacqueline?” the voice of Malorn called. “JACQUELINE!!!” Jacqueline opened her eyes with a start and saw two people leaning over her.
Ambrose and Malorn.
She shook her head as the two people blurred in and out of her line of sight. She placed a hand on her temple and let out a slight moan. “Okay, I know what happened, so don’t count on me asking,” Jacqueline muttered. Ambrose and Malorn smiled.
“She’s back,” Malorn laughed.
“WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN WHY?” Alura screamed as she woke up with a start.
“I’m not so sure about her,” Malorn murmured. Jacqueline laughed a little. Alura glared at the death student and sat up. She put on her gold-based and red trimmed hat and turned away.
“So I know what happened when the earthquake started yesterday- wait. It was yesterday, right?” Jacqueline asked. Malorn nodded and Jacqueline sighed. “Anyway, what happened during and after the earthquake yesterday?” Ambrose took a deep breath before starting,
“We’re not entire certain what happened to you two and those five other girls,” Ambrose started. “But we do know that the earthquake happened for two minutes and fifty three seconds exactly and that after it stopped the voice of a woman shouted out, ‘They’re awakened.’”
“After that I went into the storm tower since I knew you were there and then I saw you, Alura and five other chicks knocked out plus this HUGE crack down the middle of the floor,” Malorn added on. Jacqueline paled even more if it were possible.
“Whoa… this is freaky,” Alura murmured. “I mean, who-” Just then Gamma the owl flew into the room. He sat down on Jacqueline’s nightstand and looked at Ambrose.
“Sir, sorry to interrupt but there are a numerous amount of papers you must attend to,” Gamma hooted. Ambrose sighed and muttered something under his breath.
“Of course. I always have some sort of paper to tend to, whether it’s Cyrus asking to expel a student or an application for a new student,” Ambrose sighed. He said a few good-byes and then teleported away. Malorn looked at his watch and then jumped back so far you would think he was a bunny-rabbit. His eyes looked as if they flew out of his head.
“Crud! I need to head to Ravenwood ASAP!” Malorn gasped. “I’ll see you in school Jacqueline, if you’re coming.”
“We’re coming,” Alura replied. “I’m guessing Dworgyn is still out?”
“Well, last anyone checked he got his arm crushed in the earthquake by a falling pillar,” Malorn told them. Jacqueline and Alura gasped. “I have to teach the death classes until they can find a replacement teacher or Dworgyn gets his arm un-crushed. I really gotta go. See ya.” And with that, Malorn Ashthorn teleported away. Alura got out of her bed and stretched out her arms.
“Will I have to get you out of that bed or are you going to be un-lazy enough to get out yourself?” Alura teasingly asked Jacqueline. Jacqueline rolled her eyes as she hopped out of the bed and held out her arms in a ‘ta-da’ fashion. Alura laughed and then leaned against the wall. A moment later both Jacqueline and Alura screamed. Why?
Alura’s entire arm went into the wall.
Alura tried to yank her arm out of the wall but no success came to getting her arm out of the wall. “What the freak?” Alura shrieked. Jacqueline just stood there with her golden eyes widened and her jaw dropped. How was that possible? Even grandmaster wizards couldn’t go through walls! “How is this possible?”
“How would I know? I don’t know many people that get their arms stuck in walls!” Jacqueline snapped.
“What do I do?”
“Again, Alura, I don’t know anyone besides you who gets their arms stuck in flipping walls,” Jacqueline hissed. Alura yanked on her arm and at long last it came out of the wall. Then Alura fell to the side and landed on the floor with a hard thud and a loud grunt. Alura then looked up at Jacqueline and screamed. “What?” Jacqueline looked down and saw something that made her scream loudly.
Bones. Not flesh or muscle. Bone.
She looked at her hands and saw a skeleton hand and then a hook. She ran over to the mirror on the back of their door and screamed. She was a skeletal pirate, and it wasn’t because of a transformation potion. “What the heck!?” Jacqueline gasped. “Any ideas on how to turn human again?”
“I don’t know anyone who turns into skeletal pirates and OH MY GOSH!!!” Alura screamed at the same time as Jacqueline. Jacqueline saw the bones slowly fading into a blue translucent vapor. Her head grew bigger and assumed the shape of a woman. Her legs disappeared completely and rendered Jacqueline to a floating body and head. She knew at once what she had turned into.
“Why did I just turn into a flipping banshee!?” Jacqueline asked with a slight freaked-out squeak. Then a distinct knock was heard at the door.
“Girls? Are you all right?” Alura’s mom’s voice asked. Jacqueline bit her lip (which she had no idea was possible due to the fact that she was a ghost hag thing) and floated over to the closet. Alura’s eyes were widened at Jacqueline. Then Jacqueline felt something of her touch the ground and saw her feet. She looked at her hands and concluded that she turned human again.
“Thank goodness,” Jacqueline breathed out. Then Alura’s mom walked in the room with clear concern in her eyes.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
“Yeah mom,” Alura replied. “A firecat jumped in the room. That’s all. You can go now.” Jacqueline and Alura exchanged glances as soon as Alura’s mom walked out of the room. Jacqueline said only one, single thing before they got ready for school in a silence.
“We need to figure this out.”
The moment the two girls came to Ravenwood, they were greeted by Malorn running faster than what was assumed humanly possible to the usual death class spot. Jacqueline and Alura looked at each other, shrugged, and then ran in the same direction. They got to the usual death class area and sat down. A few moments later Ryan and Tara came up by them.
“Hiya how’s it? I can’t wait to learn about whatever we’re learning about today because I’m sure it’s exciting and whatnot,” Ryan greeted in her peppy, fast-talking voice. She paused for a moment. “Oooh! Dark sprites! That sounds interesting.” Jacqueline, Tara and Alura looked at the hyper life wizard in confusion but then turned to Malorn. Maybe I should ask her if anything weird’s been happening to her… Jacqueline thought. “Um… nothing weird’s been happening to me,” Ryan hesitantly stammered. What the heck? How did she know what I was asking? “Let’s pay attention to the class, shall we?”
“Hey… um… how is everyone?” Malorn greeted to all the novice/apprentice students. There was blank silence. “Yeah… Dworgyn’s going to be out for a while. He gave me some keys to get his lesson plans for the year, but when I opened the cabinet for lesson plans the only thing I found was a bunch pink, heart shaped cookies… yeah… so we’re going to review information on dark sprites until I find those lesson plans.” Jacqueline looked at Tara, but then Tara blanked out and a flash of gold ran through Tara’s eyes.
“Great a pop-quiz from Drake…” Tara murmured. Jacqueline turned away from her in confusion and began to listen to Malorn. Even though Jacqueline tried to listen to what Malorn was saying, her mind was a blank all throughout the class; therefore the entire review lesson was a blur. Bartleby announced the changing of classes which brought Jacqueline’s head back to Ravenwood. They started walking to the myth classroom when Alura walked up to Jacqueline and nudged her.
“Did you even notice how Malorn was only looking at you the entire class?” Alura asked. Jacqueline froze. Did Alura just say what she thought she said?
“He was nervous. I know him, and seeing familiar things helps him calm down,” Jacqueline replied.
“Say what you want, but by the end of the year it’s going to be very obvious that he’s crushing on you,” Alura giggled. Jacqueline rolled her eyes knowing that what Alura was predicting would never happen. They walked into the Myth classroom and sat in their seats. Cyrus Drake turned to the class with his usual sneer.
“Good second period novice students,” Cyrus started. “Today we will continue our discussion on summoning minions but first…” the grim Myth teacher pulled out a bundle of papers. “Pop quiz.” Jacqueline widened her eyes and looked at Tara. She predicted pop quizzes, and now it was happening.
Something was up.
After their Myth class they started heading towards their usual spot for Balance lessons. Jacqueline pulled Ryan, Tara and Alura over to the side. “Ryan, you knew what I was going to ask you before I asked you, and Tara, I heard you predict a pop quiz from Drake, and that was right. What’s up?” Tara and Ryan froze before turning to each other and nodding.
“Okay, you have to swear not to tell anyone,” Tara growled. Jacqueline crossed her heart and Tara continued. “Ever since this morning weird things have been happening to Ryan and I. I had a vision of a firecat flying into the room. I was thinking about that idea being crazy, but then the firecat flew in the room, exactly how I saw it. Then-”
“Then when Tara came to school this morning, I heard her talking about how weird it was that she foresaw something so unlikely. I told her anything was possible, but then she said she didn’t say anything about that. She was thinking it, and that’s when we realized something really weird was going on,” Ryan finished in one breath. “What about you guys? You were with us when the earthquake and symbol-flying-into-chest-thing happened.”
“Yeah, weird things have happened to us too,” Alura answered. “First of all, my entire arm went into the wall. Second of all, Jacqueline turned into both a skeletal pirate and a banshee.” The four exchanged glances and Jacqueline sighed.
“Looks like we have a shape shifter, a mind reader, a girl who can predict the future, and a girl who can go through solid objects,” Jacqueline concluded. “We solved that part. Question is, what do we do next?” The all froze before Alura drew a breath.
“After school, we need to tell Headmaster Ambrose. Only he and Gamma need to know about this,” Alura told the group. All of them nodded in agreement and then ran off to the balance class. But two questions burned in their minds. Why were they the ones that had these weird abilities?
And were these powers blessings or curses?

The Shadow Saga (part 2) Tigra coughed. I glared at her. "Tigra! This kid attacked me! How can I be nice to him?!" I growled at her.My frost cat sighed and touched his out-cold body with her paw. He was suddenly shrouded in a sheet of ice."Like it or not Morg, we are watching over him. His ring shows he is a part of Malistare's army. A close apprentice because of the aura radiating from it." A pause. "Well then mother, how we gonna take him without a kid or Ambrose seeing him?" I asked. Tigra's face paled."I thought you had an idea." she mewed. I rolled my eyes and seached the area. A troll's gunny sack lay a few feet away.I smirked.Tigra's white eyes grew big."Your not...." she started. In a few seconds, we were dragging a unusally large gunnysack back to Ravenwood.
Wolf woke up to a sharp pain in his stomach. As he opened his eyes, he saw the groggy Balance kid with her pet. That and sudden emptiness. He looked to his fingers. He screamed. Wolf's onyx engraved ring Malistare gave him had dissapeared. The Balance girl rolled her eyes."Your lucky that we are next to Blossom and no Life kid found you!" she scolded, sprikling more sprite dust on him.He cried out in pain from the pure Life magic."Trap it kid. Want to die from infected wounds?" she snapped. A clink at the door. "AK!Maya!Cover him!" the girl oreded a black and gold dragon. In a flash a huge wing coverd his body. The only thing he saw was the girl and a Life adept. the adept groaned."Since you are my kin, I am stuck with teaching you since you got accepted later than me. Yet we are the oldest stsudents here sooooo." The adept said. Out of no where, the Blance girl kicked the girl. A grunt from the girl. "Daily check. Getting more realistic everytime." A silence. "Ah well I am pretty old student. Maya let go." then the veil lifted off Wolf's body.Well, I got SOME male clothes. Lets see what you can do."
The boy fallowed me like ashadow straight to the arena."what's your name kid?" i aked him."wolf.' he whispered."Morgan SpiritShade." he nodded and collapsed."Wolf?" I asked. No response.I cocked my head just as another dark portal opened. The same shape appeared from my dream.A evil laugh as I was launged to a place twisted. As I was taken I felt a fondeness.I was at the mercy of Malistare now.
