I have tried the test realm and I think the mounts are very cool. The problem, though, is that they are much too expensive for me to buy. I would be very happy if the price were lower so I could buy one. I don't think that I or other lower level wizards will be able to buy one, because I have never had enough money to buy the cheapest house. I do hope the prices are lowered so I could buy one. Thank you. :D
I agree, I think the mounts are very expensive. On the live realm, just think. 1$ = 500 crowns. Now, I saw the new dream filly mount. Just think. It's 10,000 crowns, right? Thats 20 dollars. Expensive!!!

Worst thing about it is that you're only getting ONE item, for twenty dollars. :/
I've contemplated what mounts actually mean for the server. Your mount give your speed, which more likely means that the mount at 40% has a higher priority on the servers than most players. I could be wrong on this and I', sure KI will correct me. But if mounts equal server priority, then its worth what we pay.
That being said if I'm wrong about the above then, I completely agree. mounts are overpriced.
The lower level wizards arent' intended to have them unless they buy day mounts for 2,000 gold, and day mounts can take you a very long time if you play much during a day. The players with upper level characters can easily move their mounts to their lower level characters. At upper levels, 45 and higher, gold becomes fairly easy to get though it still takes time and effort. Making things less expensive isn't the best solution.
KI first gave you the ability to cut down on travel time by letting you mark a spot (for a bit of mana cost) in order to teleport back to.
In Grizzleheim they introduced teleport devices to help you move around quicker. Later they added these teleport devices to all the worlds from Marleybone up, where travel distances increased dramatically.
They introduced mounts. Inexpensive 1-day rentals are useful when you have alot of play time in a given day. Permanent mounts are more expensive because, well ... their permanently yours. You can place permanent mounts in your share bank for your other wizards to use. So when it gets down to it, you only need to purchase 1 permanent mount for your account. At only 50K of in-game gold for the cheapest broom or horse isn't bad at all.
Like anything else in the real world, if you want the more expensive version, you need to save up for it and make some small sacrifices.
