I've heard chat about Light Magic coming into the game to be an opposite to Shadow Magic. But aren't the Astral schools techinally Light Magic? Think about it. The Sun, Moon, and Stars all give off Light. They're all emmodiments of Light. I don't object to Light Magic. I'm just trying to make a point. But one could say Astral is more about the skies, and Celestial bodies rather than the actual element of Light.
The Evolution of Shadow Magic Let's look at Shadow Magic for a second. Shadow Magic, to me, is the corrupted, shadow-y side to the Astral schools. In Khrysalis, we learn that the Eclipse Tower was once a place of Moon Magic, but Morganthe corrupted it with Shadow Magic, and now the two are forever bonded. Moon Magic is about Polymorphing. Shadow Magic messed with that to make what it is now. KI never specified that the Shadow spells we see now are the only forms of Shadow magic. They just enhance the power of the spells we use. Right now they are called Shadow Self spells. Could there be other forms? After the Eclipse Tower, we find out there are 2 other Astral places. The Radiant Alcazar, a place of Star Magic, and the Solar Arch, a place of Sun Magic. We learn that Morganthe corrupted these places as well. Could Shadow Magic take the form of Enchantments and Auras as well? I would think so. How Shadow Enchants work is beyond me, but Shadow Auras seem interesting.
A Higher Magic? I do want to place my 2 cents on Light Magic. People are saying ideas about an opposite to Shadow Magic. Seeing how the 4 supplementary schools are going, Light Magic will most likely power our spells. But how? I have 2 theories. Light, to me, is sight. It is the pushing away of the unseeable forces of darkness to add color and vision. It is controlable and stable, but still hard to manage, similar to Sorcery (Balance).
First Theory In one instance, I think Light magic is about brightening the powers of the Astral schools. Enchantments on Enchantments, Auras, and Polymorphs. Maybe it will increase the stats of Polymorphs (+15% Pip Chance, Accuracy, or 20% more max Health. Or even enchant the cards), increase the effect of Auras (Like +5% more Resist to Fortify or Amplify), or add effects or strengthen the powers of Sun Enchants (Add +75 Damage to 1 Sun Damage Enchant, or Add 'Remove 1 Charm' to Accuracy Enchants, thus adding an after effect to a spell). I think this is very cool.
Second Theory My other theory is that Light Magic will be very similar to Shadow Magic. It will change into a form of Light. However, instead of getting a major boost for varying Backlash, the spells would give small boosts that increase or decrease as you appease or displease your Light spell. They would last maybe 5 rds compared to Shadow Magic's 3. So for example, the spell could give +10% Damage and increase by 5 if you do things the spell likes or decrease by 5 if you do things the spell hates. You wouldn't take Backlash damage for using the spell, but you could take a Stun.
I've thought the samething I want to assume with part 2's release we will get shadow spells in the form of corrupted astral magic. With light magic it would have corrupted the astral schools as well (corruption isnt always evil) witht the polymorphs there'd be no backlash but the enhancements would always be weaker since light doesnt have backlash.
A light pip would be opposite to a shadow pip but in the middle you could combine those 2 into a dusk pip, you'd get a card to apply on a shadow or light spell to change it, it would remove the backlash for shadow and increase power for light.
