I am fairly new to this game and just became a member I love this game and have been playing for almost three weeks now as a free member building a wizard in all 6 schools except for death I now have ice, storm, fire, balance, myth & life at about level 9 1/2. I became a member last night my question is I received a fire prism for my fire wizard and am still trying to figure out how to use the prism or what it does can someone explain it to me as I am still learning and am a little new to this great game.thanks

After you progress a little further, the bad guys you need to defeat will start to resist the attacks from their school. So, an ice bad guy will resist ice hits, fire bad guys will resist fire hits.

For example. your firecat spell does 100 damage (the numbers are wrong, this is only to make it simpler to understand), when you hit a death guy, it will hit for 100 damage. When you hit an ice guy, you'll hit for more, because fire spells get a boost with ice guys, so you may do 120 or so damage. If you hit a fire guy, he will resist that spell and you may only hit for 60.
If you put a prism on first, that will turn your fire spell into an ice spell and now you get a boost from your fire spell against a fire opponent! Learn to use this, believe me, once you get into Dragonspyre and beyond, you won't survive without them!

To add, a few tips on prisms:

The prism goes on first. Then traps. The reason is that these trigger in the reverse order from which they were placed. So you want your fire spell to go through the trap first (to get boosted) then through the prism (to get converted).

Fire prism only works on the first hit, meaning that they don't work well with over time spells. So for example, if you use a Fire Elf with a prism, only the first small hit will be converted, the rest will be fire on fire and the enemy will be resistant. Not sure if KI is working on this or not but Fire has enough single punch spells for this to no be too much of an issue.

Finally, carry an ice wand with you rather than a fire wand. Most enemies shield from the opposite school. So in Fire's case, Fire will shield with an ice shield. This is bad if you then try to put on a prism, which converts your spell to ice! So carry an ice wand with zero pip ice blasts so you can knock off any ice shields without triggering your prism.

Also, just my preference but I have found Myth to be one of the most difficult and least fun schools to play. I personally would knock off your myth wizard and start a death wizard. Death is a great school and lots of fun (you can attack and heal at the same time)!!! I know there are myth wizards who would disagree but later in the game, Myth has some serious weaknesses. Anyway, that's just my two cents.

But welcome to the Spiral and have fun!

hey thanks firehammer i think i have the jist of it

lets see if i have this right i am fighting a fire guy
i throw firecat at him without prism it hits for 60 because he resists it
i put a prism on him then throw firecat on him it now boosts the fire spell and turns it to ice so it will hit for ex:100 or so.
what happens if i throw a fire prism on lets say an ice oponnent will that diminish the effect of fire on him being it is changing the fire spell to ice.
same example fighting ice guy
throw fire cat 100 points damage now i put a fire prism on him what effect will that same spell have will it lower the effect of the spell?
thanks firehammer

Ok, since I'm fire like you, I should best explain this. It says on the card that it CONVERTS FIRE into Ice. what that means is this: Lets say your fighting a fire monster in the second world. Fire resists fire from now on, but gets a boost to ICE. thats where the fire prisim comes in. Cast it, then cast a fire spell on the same person, and watch as the fire spell turns into an ice one for a boost, most likely killing it. does that help?

Yeah, you don't want to put a fire prism on an ice bad guy, then cast a fire spell, that will convert your fire spell to ice, and they will resist that spell!

One tip is to never run into battle without first looking at your potential enemies. Always try to adjust your deck before hand. It stinks to run into battle and have to face 2 fire guys and realize you don't have any prisms in!
I've done that more times than I'd like to admit, and I have 2 legendary fire wizards. I now take my time and adjust my deck before entering battle. Believe me, if you take the time to do that, you'll be much better off!
Good luck,

You may also find it helpfull to keep two decks in your backpack. One for most battles and one for same school battles (ex - fire vs fire). That way when you come up against your own school you can just go to your backpack and equip the other deck - much faster than swapping attack cards and prisms back and forth.

This might be common knowledge, but it could be useful to newer players. Once you get to a fairly decent level (say 15+), I usually find it's a good idea to have two decks at the ready. One deck is my primary deck with the normal balance of charms/blades/shields and attacks; this deck I use on a regular basis in most battles. The other deck is specifically one I use when I'm fighting a monster of the same school as my wizard. That way, I don't have to right click prisms during normal battles and waste the chance of drawing one of my better attacks or traps.

Also, to echo some advice earlier, I strongly recommend having a wand outside of your school. It's even better if the wand is the opposite school (fire wand for an ice wizard, storm wand for a myth wizard, etc...)

And to follow-up, I am currently in Dragonspyre with my Myth Wizard and I love it. The hardest part about Myth is that you have to really work up your traps and charms (the Myth school's "Time of Legend" is the only aura spell I use of the different schools). It can be a drag sometimes, but the challenges to me make it all the better.

Hope this helps some of y'all!

One thing I'd like to point out that I didn't see mentioned is that as long as long as you got your prism out before they shield, your prism will not trigger the shield. But, if they are shielded before you use your prism, you need to remove that shield before you attack or your prism will trigger their shield.

It's equally annoying when: shield, prism, shield happens because when you wand off a shield, it's the newest shield so you need to wand off the second shield before you can attack again. But, after that any new shields won't matter.

hopefully i didn't confuse you further?

In short, there are but a few things to remember (yes, rehash of what's said above):

1) Traps, shields, prisms and such go off in the OPPOSITE order of what they were applied in. Thus, whatever trap/shield that was placed first, will be the last thing to trigger.

2) A Prism will change the attacking spell's SCHOOL the moment it goes off. So if you put Fire Trap, Fire Prism and then Fire Trap, then you will only get the benefits from a single Fire Trap - as your spell's school has changed when the prism was used, and thus the Fire Trap after the Prism will not trigger.

3) You can only trigger one of each "variation" of traps/blades/shields on a person or enemy. If you put 3 identical Fire Blades on yourself, you will only be able to trigger one per round when you attack. The same goes with shields and traps. See next point for further details.

4) "Stacking" is a common expression and tactic. What you do, is you stack multiple blades/traps/shields of different "variation". Let's say you put a Fire Blade (from your spell deck) on yourself, and then a Fire Blade from a treasure card. The two blades are not identical, and thus they will BOTH trigger in the same round. You can use the same principle for traps and shields to boost your damage or protect yourself.

5) Advanced damage: By using prisms, you can get very high amounts of damage. Let's say you put down two different Ice Traps, then a Fire Prism, and finally two different Fire Traps. When you attack with a Fire spell, you will set off the fire traps first, then the prism, and then the ice traps as well! (because you change your spell's school with the prism mid-way through the attack).

6) It is always a good idea to carry a wand of the opposite type of your own school (Myth><Storm, Fire><Ice, Death><Life) - this will allow you to "pop" shields that the enemy places down and which might interfere with your usage of prisms. Enemies like to shield themselves against the kind of damage they are weak against.

7) At an early point, get used to having multiple decks. You can usually buy them cheap at the bazaar. Have at least one deck meant for normal enemy-battles, one deck meant for boss-battles, and one deck meant for fights against monsters that will need prisms! ((If you are a supporting school, such as balance or life, I recommend you have an additional deck for when you need to play as full support and not attack anything.))

8) Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! Keep your deck small and efficient - you want to quickly be able to find the spells you need, without first having to discard sixteen cards that you have no use for. Once you hit level 20, do yourself the favour of investing in the Reshuffle spell from Colossus Boulevard (it lets you "reshuffle" your deck and get back all of the cards you've used or discarded during combat - minus, of course, treasure cards). A spell-kill deck for a pyromancer, for instance, would usually consist of a fireblade and two meteor strikes.

9) Plan ahead! Don't be afraid to shift your deck around until you have something that suits you best. While taking the advice of others, you need to find a playstyle that suits you as best as possible, and gives you the biggest chances of survival.

10) If you work with a group for a long period of time, find your niche and stick to it. Proper communication is also key, but sticking to what you are great at can cause an otherwise ragtag group to be a force to reckon with. You know you have your niche if you end up with a ridiculously specialised deck (such as one that only contains blades and a single trap), and you are carving a path through the Spiral with what seems like little effort.

Does this work now? I have tried it several times in the past (admittedly pre-Celestia) but as soon as it got to the prism, it stopped.

Back to the main thread... If you get a prism on before an enemy shields it (ie, a fire prism on a fire enemy before the fire enemy casts an ice shield) then you have effectively gotten underneath the shield because your damage won't change to ice till it hits the prism. Because of this, I try to get the prisms on them as quickly as possible.

if you use a prism before the enemy uses a shield the shield wont activate and you can attack even if there a shield but it has to be before the prism if it after the shield WILL activate
