Obsidian chest?

I have seen the Obsidian chest in several places and worlds. Is there something special about them? Is it a quest or will it be? Please let inquiring minds know something.

Obsidian chests hold the pieces for the crystal dragon riders staff which is part of a Dragonspyre quest
