Location Bubbles Around Edges of Screen?

Sometimes bubbles with location names appear all around the edges of my screen, and sometimes they don't. I can't find what setting controls these. Does anyone know? Thanks!

Clicking your compass or pressing N (for navigation) will hide/display these bubbles, however they don't exist in all areas, just most.

the proffeser is right again lol yup press the N button but sometimes you may want it!

And you'll find that if you try to have a conversation without hitting the enter button first, you can accidentally turn the compass on and off. It happens.

Thank you so much. I'd found a guide that said to use Ctl-N, which of course did nothing. :)
