I guess it's been a while since I bought a pet from The Crown Shop. I just bought the Spirit of Nature pet, and I was surprised to see that it let me choose my pet's name at the time of purchase.
I think that I used to get the "random" name assigned and then I had to go and pay gold to rename my pets.
