When you redeem the item from the Gift Window in the game, you are prompted to choose the tier of item you want. You can preview the stats before you buy, but you only get one. Some people redeem it for one they can use immediately, and then pass on to other characters through the Shared Bank, others will choose one they cannot equip yet, but can aspire to.
