After we defeated Malistaire we never know what happened to Bartleby's eye. What if Malistaire lost it or sold it someone, We know Old Cob was locked up but being a First World Being he could've easily manipulated someone across the Spiral to do his dirty work and steal Bartleby's eye. Perhaps that is why Bartleby has fallen ill, he has seen the future and know how Grandfather Spider can look into the past and do something bad?
