Do I have to complete the Nordrilund exposure quest and get my pet in order to get the level 68 spell or can i just keep going and not care about Wintertusk

You need to finish that quest - it is in the last area of Wintertusk and you do not have to do much past repair a bridge - once you do that and hand the quest in at the end of that area you complete that exposure quest for the pet.

The answer is yes. But don't worry, when you train your pet he is very helpful. My kraken is no waste of time
