Normally you would not train a pet any further once it reaches epic. Each pet can only have a maximum of 4 talents.
If the talent it receives at Epic is a selfish/passive talent that increases its stats , then you could continue training it to max out it's stats.

Yes it will get more than four traits and No you cant train it anymore

The max Is 4 in Talent and 4 in Derby which is achieved by reaching epic.

The game does not stop you from training when you reach epic. But there is no point in doing so.
