If it is a may cast talent, it is random. If it is a card talent, you are supposed to be the one to use them, and it shows up in your deck like a normal card, or amulet card. If it is neither, then your pet cannot cast a spell in battle.

There is nothing wrong with your pet. You aren't understanding the difference between talents and spells. You unicorn has no spells. It has talents only. They are completely different.
