I got a life spider I started training. It gives a card that boosts all attack life spells, but when i trained the spider up to teen, it developed this ability to improve death spell accuracy.
??????
Ok... shouldn't a life pet be boosting life accuracy, not death... As a life wizard i find this rather annoying. Are pet abilities random or are they determined by how you train them?

The abilities are random, but every single Brown Spider you buy up from Mooshu will have the same list of possible abilities, ironically dealing with Death Magic.
This problem of mismatched School, abilities, and card are present in several other pets, such as how the Cat Thugs give a Balance spell card and the Fire Salamanders (used to) give a Myth spell card.
My suggestion would be to use the Hatchery and breed Life-School talents onto the Spider, although this is a very tedious and costly process. If you do though, the Sea Turtle would be a good candidate for this.
So you must decide is the pet's card and appearance worth the effort, or is it good enough on its own to keep using? Personally I find that the School-Oriented boosts are nice to look at, but not that big a deal once you move up the game.
