I think every time a pet is to get a new talent the player should be able to choose between two pet and race talent options from its available talents. This still won't get everyone the pet they want, but it will up their chances of getting a pet that they will enjoy more. You may not like the two randomly chosen talents you have to choose between, but at least your chances of getting something useful or good has been increased. If you already have perfect pets you may be against this cause of your pets, but newly added pets will quite often make even the best of pets obsolete.
