By a saw do you mean a saw to cut down the trees to get wood? Because if so, you can't do that. You just pick Mist Wood up off of the ground when you find it. That holds true for any normal harvestable reagent.

Reagents of all sorts are found in every world of the spiral. Mistwood just happens to be very common in Wizard City.
You will have to go off sidewalks and into ares with no wandering monsters, especially around the "boss" houses on Unicorn Way, Cyclops Lane and Colossus Blvd.
When you are next to the Mistwood, you should get a dialogue box that says "Press 'X' to collect". Press the 'X' key and you'll get this cute sound effect of falling wood and the item will be added to your backpack.
There is a quest given by Eudora Tangletree that asks you to collect a piece of Mist Wood.
Anyways, you need to find a piece of Mist Wood that is sort of shining on the ground, and walk up to it and press X to collect it.
Im fully aware, technically speaking you dont even need the crafting quest to pick up reagents. They thought there was another quest you need to pick up the Mist Wood. And I was saying you dont need a second quest, just go out and find some mist wood.
