Is there any reason we have to loose all of our spells if we discard them. When a lower level is facing off against a higher level it would be nice to be able to choose a spell that hasn't populated. I also think that not all beasts are created equal. Some beasts have blades that are more than another beasts total life. It really seems unequal.

That's an interesting blade life comparison. Do you have a specific example?
Discarding adds value to the action as well as helps with overall match balance. Discarding or not needs some meaningful consequences for the choice itself to have meaning. If there were no downside to discarding, then making that decision has less meaning.
We can certainly consider more on how this could be adjusted.
